Dr. Gastwirt is very pleasant, knowledgable and experienced. The staff is very helpful and patient. The program at the Beth Israel in Boston is great. They make sure you see a Nurse and then meet one of the Doctors. The second visit you meet with a nutritionist and a psycologist. Then on the big day you meet with the surgeon. My fist appointment was April 9, 2001 and my surgery is scheduled for July 20. After the surgery you go for a three week followup then 3 month then 6 month all then iI think every 6 months there after. Dr. Gastwirt went over all sorts of risks like bleeding, leaking, dumping. I thought she was wonderful. I really had no questions for her. People I met in the waiting room that had the same surgeon thought she was great also. One girl was there less than three weeks post op looking for a note to go back to work. She looked wonderful.

Dr. Gastwirt IS WONDERFUL!!!! From the moment I met her I felt comfortable and safe. Her explanation of the surgical process, though technical, was very easy
to understand. The rest of the staff at Beth Isreal Deaconess Gastric Bypass Dept. were just as warm and helpful.

Dr. Gastwirt was very nice. She is very personable and caring. I know I made the right choice having her preform my surgery.

She was great and made me feel great about my
decision. She talked to me with respect.
Her office staff Was even better. Going in I
didn't feel that great about myself. When I
Left the office I felt as though a huge burden and alot of anxiety had been lifted they answered every concern i had straightfoward no half answers.I was concerned because she seemed a little young
I asked how many of these surgerys she had done @1000. that made me feel good. I asked @ complications Her answer didn't alarm me.
I felt very comfortable. After care is very important! The Whole staff made that very clear. they do have a very structured after care program. not to mention the before care

adressed the risks very straight foward and didn't gloss anything over. I'll give her a rate after the surgery. so far so good.
I Honestly don't have anything bad to say about my experience so far. Except for my own nervousnes about becoming "a normal size"
I've always been plus sized, everyone saying
you have such a beautiful face, what about the rest. This my time, hopefully to shine.

I met with Dr. Gastwirt on august 3rd,2ooo My first impression of her was great. She is very personalbe, professional and very supportive. I felt totally comfortable and at ease with her. She answered every question I had and completely explained every step of the procedure with me from the time I walk in the hospital door until the time I come back for my first post op visit. Our visit was very relaxed, I didnt not feel like there was a pile up in the waiting room that she had to rush me through. I met with each person in the office..the medical doctor, the nurse the psycologist, the nutrionist and the surgeon and each took at least 45 relaxed minutes with me. I went o the support group and enjoyed it very much. I do have a surgery date of august 23rd, 2ooo and am nervous but very excited to get to my goal and into my new lease on life :) good luck to everyone considering this surgery and to all of you who made it through it. please email if you want to:[email protected]
