Dr. Jann Holwick Bariatric Center Bariatric Center

November 4th
I met with Jan on July 26th and found her to be very confident at what she does. My DH was unsure about the WLS until we went for my consult with her. We both left there thinking "YES!! This the the answer to this war we have been fighting with my fat!!!"
A week ago I had a call from the woman that does her billing and was told that Jan wants the copayment up-front from patients that chose to have her do thier elective surgery. That will cost us quite a bit and was kind of a shock. She told my insurance agent that I had been told this upfront. That could be,though I don't remember hearing about it. We figured either way we were going to be in debt after surgery, to Jan or to someone else. Oh Well! It will be worth every cent!

I haven't met her yet my first apt. is Jan. 7th of 2002. Ive already been apvd. by my old insurance co. but the company I work for is changing it to Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I'm not sure if I have to be pre-aproved or not yet. I'm hoping everything will be rolled over to the new one.

I first met Dr. Holwick in either April or May 2001. She was very matter of fact and I liked that. She is a very busy lady, for sure. She was very thorough in her explanation of the procedure, had my husband and me view a film and talked with both of us. She did not rush or push me and made me know that the decision was mine and mine alone.
Her office staff is very professional and caring.
If you are considering surgery, I would recommend Dr. Holwick. I know several people who have gone to her with great results. I am looking forward to "great results" for myself.
I am pre-op but would give Dr. Holwick at 10+ at this time.

I felt that Dr. Holwick was down to earth and well able to answer any questions you may have and also give insightful input into any of the choices that you have to make throughout the entire process. She gave the good, the bad and the ugly of the whole procedure. Her office staff were very relaxed and informal, but not slack in their attention to detail or making one feel at ease. There's not alot else that I could honestly comment on now since I have only spoken with the doctor on one occasion. I will commment in more detail at a later date.

The staff is very friendly and informative, although I didn't have a lot of questions because I've done a lot of research on my own. My next step is to get clearance for surgery through the Internal Medicine office at Alleghany Regional. I know after that I will be able to set a date but I don't know what, if anything else I'll need to do. I guess they're (Dr. Holwick office) are just taking things one step at a time but I kind of feel like I've been left hanging. At this point I am assuming that aftercare will be addressed after a date has been set.

Dr. Holwick came highly recommended to me. She was very thorough in explaining WLS to me. She definitely let me know that my safety/well being was of utmost importance to her. She was very confident in her skills as a surgeon and has done many, many open RNY.She does not do LAP RNY, and prefers to do only proximal RNY to avoid major malabsorption problems. Her bedside manners were excellent. She let me know she was available/accessible to me if needed. She kept me in ICU for 24 hrs. for pain management, and made sure that I was kept mostly pain free during my hospital stay, and recovery afterwards. I was given a diet sheet and instruction sheet upon leaving the hospital. The first year post-surgery, consists of office visits and lab work which are included in the cost of the surgery. Her P.A. and office staff were all very kind and helpful. After meeting with her several times prior to WLS, and talking to nurses and others who knew her, I decided to have her also do a much needed hysterectomy on me. So not only did I have The Prox. RNY, I had complete hysterectomy, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy at the same time. I was only in surgey aprox. 3 hrs. for all of this. I would highly recommend Dr. Jan Holwick to anyone, esp. those in southern West Virginia where there are no bariatric surgeons. I am planning to have her do a tummy tuck on me as soon as I lose down to a desirable weight. My surgeries were done at Allegheny Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Va. I feel that I received excellent care from the nursing staff while I was there. My husband stayed with me the entire time, and they were also very sensitive to his needs and tried to also make him as comfortable as possible.

My first impression of Dr. Holwick was that she was too busy to talk to me. On my consultation, she wasn't
there. I talked to her P.A., Julie, and got the info I needed. I came back around to get my bloodwork done and
was scheduled to meet with her, but I saw her for about 5 minutes before she got beeped and had to leave.
She is an extremely busy woman, and is not the type to hold your hand and soothe you about this surgery.
She is a no-nonsense, extremely smart woman. I trust her completely, after researching her record with
WLS...2 deaths out of 900+ surgeries, and those were from general surgery related risks, not the WLS (a
pulmonary embolism and a heart attack on the table). She is also a general surgeon, which is why she
stays busy! She's been doing this surgery for 20 years...has excellent credentials. Just don't go in there
thinking she will hold your hand while you make a decision and you'll be fine. Her nurse Lynn is
WONDERFUL. She really takes the time to get to know you and talk to you if there is anything you are
concerned about. Dr. Holwick will also be offering the laparoscopic procedure in September 2001.

I haven't met her yet, my first appointment is on June 22nd. I am already very nervous but anxious to get this over with so i can live a normal life.
6/22/01 I met with Dr. Holwick today and she is everything i have read about her, I feel a sense of relief knowing she will be the one preforming my surgery. Her staff is WONDERFUL!!!! I would recommend anyone to her!!

Dr. Holwick has been a wonderful doctor. Her office is really busy so sometimes it can be hectic with all the waiting but I feel that its worth the wait to have a doctor who cares about me as a person. All of the staff has been great-especially Lynn- she is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. The entire staff really takes the time to talk to you. I feel that Dr Holwick is an excellent doctor and would definately recommend her to anyone. It makes me feel that I have made the right choice in choosing my surgeon. I really have nothing negative to say. My experience has been great.

Dr. Holwick struck me as passive person, not someone to rush you into anything, but, some-one that would help you attain your goal if that is what you want. Her office staff has been very helpful, answering any and all questions that I have had. When I inquired about the surgery, a package was sent to me with information on the surgery and pages of questions and answers that covered just about everything.
