Gorospe Bariatric Associates Bariatric Center

I really liked Dr Gorospe, the first time I met him was in a group setting afterwards he talked one on one with me and my husband(at the time)..even though there were a dozen people waiting to talk to him he answered all my questions I had and did not rush me out Very honest and caring. His Office staff is the best I had called them atleast 5 times about resending my insurance papers and not once were they rude to me very nice.
He tells you everything up front after care is really important have to go back every month to see him for the first year and am required to go to support meetings every month. Yes his aftercare program is excellent and there is a nutritionlist there if I have any questions. He explained the risks right off the bat ... So far I would rate him high so far he has shown me nothing but good ...I think Both Surgical and bedside manners

Dr. Grosepe was very professional and informative the first time I met him.
After my surgery I had a few conversations with him, there was a lot of things happening in the hospital during my stay. I feel that Dr. Grosepe really cares for his patients.
His office is very, very, busy! But after the initial approval for the surgery the staff members are really helpful with any questions that arise.
The first meeting was really short, but there were so many people waiting for their appointments.
Ask all the questions you can in that first visit, because you won't see him again until after your surgery. (To ask him questions.)
The aftercare program is very structured and emphasized form the time you attend the classes until you leave the hospital.
He informed me of all the possible problems relating from this surgery.
I would rate Dr. Grosepe a 8 out of 10 (surgically he is a 10 out of 10) and I would say surgical competence is most important to me.

Dr. Gorospe seemed like a very nice man. He is a probably the most highly qualified around for this procedure. His office staff has been helpful. I have attended one monthly meeting in November but am looking forward to the January meeting.

First impression: Very personable and knowledgable
Office staff: Very helpful and friendly. Doctor's assistant has had RNY surgery and speaks, also. Who better to tell you what to expect than someone who's had surgery herself?!!!
I really didn't not like anything about Dr. Gorospe. VERY likable.
Aftercare is very important. Pre-surgery support groups are required, as are post-surgery. Not sure yet about aftercare program.
Conveyed the risks of surgery in a very understandable manner.
Overall rating: 10+
I'm concerned most about surgical competence, but bedside manner is important, too! He seems to have both!
The negatives are that Dr. Gorospe/hospital are 2 hours away from my home. Dr. Gorospe really needs a bigger office. There was a lot of body heat being spread!

On the first office visit, you are in a room full of people in a classroom type setting. He teaches about the surgery and does have somewhat of a question/answer type session. Then you are broken up and seen on an individual basis. He did stress for me to get on the internet and do some research myself. The wait was long as I had some insurance issues. Dr Gorospe did have a good bedside manner and I feel he is an excellent surgeon. He has a monthly support group meeting which is very helpful pre-op and post-op. I do think his office is understaffed and overworked. He does have a Dr that has joined his staff that has helped reduce the waiting period for surgery. I have heard a lot of good things about this Dr as well.

My husband and I went to a support group Monday and Dr. Katsis was there as well as two of his nurses. Dr. Katsis came over and visited with my husband and I for at least an hour after the meeting was over. He answered EVERY question that I had and was extremely personable. I even got to quiz him on "How did he get into this type surgery," "How many has he done", "Does he prefer the lap over the open and why", etc. etc. etc....Extremely helpful and charming. I didn't get to visit with his office staff as much, but I assume over time that will change. I think I would advise anyone looking into this to go to one of these meetings and just meet the folks. I was real nervous at first, but that changed within a matter of minutes after being there. This Dr. has only been doing these type surgeries for one year, but they seem to have a really solid after-care program. A support group meets twice a month and the nurses apparently work very closely with you on a one-on-one basis. Dr. Katsis did approach the risks involved, but as we all of heard, he compared them to the risks of going on as I have been. I thought he was fabulous and would recommend anyone to go to him.
Fortunetly for us, we have three groups of docs that do this surgery here in Tulsa. The problem with that is choosing the right (best) one, right? Well, I've decided to interview Dr. Gorouspe. He apparently is the "guru" of WLS and I've been advised to at least "talk to the guy"! So...I have an appt. with him this coming Wed., the 16th. It will all be self-pay, so that part will be the same. His asst. insinuated that if I chose him, whenever I got my money together they would set a date. All of my pre-op appt. apparently could be scheduled within the next few weeks. Hold on a minute...this is going wayyyyy to fast! Just keep praying that God will provide the $$ for me. That is kind of my "fleece" to see if this is what God wants for me. If He doesn't provide the $, then I will assume He's got another way! I'll let you know.

DR. GOROSPE WAS VERY NICE WHEN I WENT FOR MY CONSULT AND VERY INFORMATIVE.MICHELLE HIS NURSE IS AWSOME VERY CARING AS SHE HAS BEEN THERE HERSELF.OFFICE IS SMALL, QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WERE AT THE CONSULT NOT ENOUGH SEATING.HE REALLY STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF AFTERCARE.OVERALL HES EXCELLANT.I WAS TOLD THERES ABOUT A 4 MONTH WAIT FOR A SURGERY DATE.HOPEFULLY I'LL HAVE MINE SEPTEMBER 2002.
well DENISE GAVE ME A SEPTEMBER 19 TH AT 1:30 FOR MY SURGERY, DENISE IS A VERY NICE PERSON WHO IS VERY OVERWORKED, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK DENISE.WELL WENT FOR A CHECK UP 11-13-02 ALL WAS FINE DR GOROSPE WAS VERY NICE AND HE HAD TIME TO REALLY SIT AND TALK TO ME, HES A SUPERB SURGEON AND A GREAT PERSON TO TALK TO JUST HES ALWAYS SO BUSY.

Dr. Gorospe was funny but serious about his job. His staff is great and very helpful. The consultation was a group and not much of a one on one visit. I think that it needs to be a little more personal. He is real caring and understanding. he thinks that the aftercare is very important. They have a support group that meets once a month and he stongly suggest that you attend them. He explained the risks of surgery very well and the causes of complications. Overall he is an excelent Dr. I think that both surgical competence and bedside manner are very important. Because you are just as much a patient after surgery as you are during.
