HE IS A WANDERFUL MAN. HE IS VERY KIND AND TAKES THE TIME TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. THE STAFF IN THE OFFICE IS GREAT TOO. SUE WAS SO HELPFUL WITH THE INSURANCE PART OF THE SURGERY. JANE DOC GOMEZ NURSE IS SO HELPFUL WITH THE MEDICAL PART. THEY R ALL WILLING TO HELP WITH ANYTHING THEY CAN WHILE U R IN THE HOSPITAL AND ALSO WHEN U COME HOME. THEY REALLY SUPPORT U WITH EVERY PART OF YOUR RECOVERY AND IF U NEED TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING THIER DOORS R ALWAYS OPEN. I RATE THE WHOLE GROUP A 10...

I had my first consultation appt. with Dr. Gomez on Nov. 5, 2002. He was very informative and to the point. I feel very confident having him as my surgeon. It was somewhat disappointing waiting for about two hours to see him for about 5-10 minutes! Not that he rushes you, but if you don't have questions then it doesn't take long at all. He asked me a few times if I had any questions and I didn't. I have been researching this for about a year. My questions have already been answered prior to the appt. His office staff is absolutely wonderful! Now all I have to do is patiently wait for my surgery date!

I intially had a consultation with Dr. John Huse at St Vincent's in Carmel Indiana. I was accepted as a good canditate and they submitted my papers for insurance approval. I have Aetna open choice and it took two months for the approval. I called the Bariatric center and told them I received the glorious news in the mail and was stunned to learn my surgery date would be in eight months! They are booked that far in advance. To me this was absolutely unacceptable. It was so coincidental, but a good friend of my husband Larry told Larry that his wife just had open RNY two weeks earlier. I called his wife and she told me about Dr. Gomez at Indiana University Medical Center. I called his office and discovered I knew his "girl Friday" Sue!! Never has a better, more compassionate women ever walked the face of this earth than Sue. I feel it was meant to be to have this surgery done at I.U. here in Indy. I already have my insurance approval and I called Aetna to ask if I could change Dr's and hospitals. They said no problem. I haven't met with Dr. Gomez yet but I understand he is a very competent surgeon. I see him on Nov. 12th and start my pre-testing at that time. They have a staff of people that tell you to DO NO HESITATE to call before or after surgery if you have any questions or problems. I am extremely happy about the outcome of my choice. Dr. Gomez is also the head trauma surgeon and I feel he has a vast wealth of experience in all sorts of problems.

Well today, October 28 2002, I went to a LapBand seminar at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Gomez's nurses and dietition, all spoke to a group of about 7 people. They all were very well informed and answered all questions completely. We all were weighed individualy, and confidentialy, our records were put in a file. Then each of us had a chance to meet and have a consultation with Dr. Gomez, on which procedure we would be best suited for Lap or open Lap band or Lap or open RNY. He said I would be a good candadate for open RNY, which is what I was hoping for. I have a very long scar on my tummy from a previous gallbladder/appendectomy surgery. Besides I'd rather have open so he has a better view. He examined me and asked many questions about my meds and diets, and wanted to be sure that I had tried all other options, before surgery. When I showed him my previous incession I told him the surgeon who did the surgery that this was a living Autopsy, I thought all of us in the room were going to have strokes laughing, myself my husband, Dr. Gomez and his nurses. He was so kind and gentle and was so easy going, yet so dedicated in his willingness to help people. I know for a fact that I have chosen the best surgeon to help me gain a new life. They have a strong emphasis on: your ability to comply with his aftercare program, and to the life long commitment that this surgery will require, and that you are totaly prepared mentally and physically. I rate Dr. Gomez at 10. I feel safe with my life in his hands, I've had my same PCP for 20 years, and with only one meeting I feel comfortable around him and his staff. They are all great. I would highly recommend him. I am scheduled for a RNY (KEY) seminar Nov.18 where I will get more food for my BRAIN. My husband was overly pleased with Dr. Gomez and his staff. He feels at ease that everything will go smoothly. It is truly comforting to know that my husband is behind me 100%.

I have met Dr Gomez twice now, first at our class last week and again at my consult on Oct 1. He is very very infomative and seems very laid back. His Office staff at this time is having a rough time do to lack of personnel to do paper work. It took almost 4 weeks to get my packet, it arrived the day after I went to consult. Gomez generaly only does RNY now. per him at consult. He and his staff make sure that you understand what you are getting into and that wls is only a tool. Overal I have to go with the rest of the croud on this, I rate them very highly, I especially like the fact that Gomes is the head of trama. I would rather have someone who knows how to handle all aspects of the antomy and other problem that can come up. Gomez is confident inhimself, which makes me confident in him, he is also a very nice man. Dr Gomez I hope your are reading these as I suggested. thank you again. ronda

My first impression of Dr. Gomez was good however I just saw him briefly. My impression changed significately I really like and respect Dr. Gomez not that I didn't before but I just thought he was very serious but after surgery he was kind of joking with me and what an awesome surgeon he is. He seems he really cares! His staff is great, I think the best in the state! Dr. Gomez really encourages aftercare and staying in touch with you pcp. They do have an aftercare plan with scheduled visits. The dietician called me at home a few days after I was released from the hospital to check to see if there were any questions. They definately inform you of the risks of the surgery right off and do not candy coat anything! Dr. Gomez and his staff is a ten all the way! I feel what makes Dr. Gomez great is his surgical competence and his bedside manner!

i was impressed. i think he is an expert. and i like it because he asked if i had any questions. i would rate his staff on a scale of one to ten an eight. i cant find anything i didnt like about him so far.i think patients should know that he easily approachable. and there is a five year after care program availiable. he inform me well. but i gather all the information i could on my own, including going to support group meetings. i would rate him a ten out of ten. both is important to me competence and bedside manners.

Dr. Gomez was professional, cut and dry with his approach, and sensitive to answering all my questions. He stresses that he is foremost a surgeon and refers patients to PCP's, internists, etc. for specific questions. I feel comfortable with him.

I have my seminar July 1st. Can't wait. Due to the holiday's my seminar is now July 15th. I was heart broke. It's just 2 weeks longer but it seems like a life time. I go Monday! I hear Dr. Gomez is a "mirical worker".
I had my 1st consultation on 8/27/02. Dr. Gomez was very professional. He asked a lot of questions but also gave me all the time I wanted to ask him questions. All his staff are wonderful & helpful. He has a slight sense of humor also. I felt very comfortable with him. My husband was with me & he made sure that he got his turn to ask about any concerns. He was very straight forward. Jim asked him what the percentage of complications were. He said that there were 2 deaths but they were extremely large & had complications from the start. He told him the percentages of every complication with people close to the same size & health as I am. I felt like a real person in there not as a MO freak. I would highly recommend Dr. Gomez to any one so far! He has a very structured after care program. They even give you a test over the seminar that you have to attend before you can go to a consultation.
