Dr. Cooperstone makes an excellent impression. He is very compasionate and although very busy, never makes you feel rushed. His staff of one is very, very busy but equally as nice. She was very helpful with all of the insurance information. They offer newsletters, support groups and a wonderful community of people who are experiencing the same things you are. I would refer anyone to Dr. Cooperstone. I met with him for both of my consultations, however I would recommend leaving a lot of time for your appointment - I had a very long wait even though my appointment was booked months in advance. I feel very comfortable with my choice in surgeons and look forward to the next step.

I knew right away from the picture on his website that he was the one to see. I researched all of the doctors in the area and when I saw his picture I just knew he could help. He is wonderful, His sense of humor is a little dry and it took me a moment to get used to that, but he explained everything to me in full detail including what to expect and aftercare. He has a group that I went to and saw alot of people there who were post op. i have to mention that his secretery Fern is amazing, I really really like her. She took care of everything with the insurance for me and there were no problems. I feel very confident in his ability as a surgeon. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I had my first meeting with Dr. Cooperstone on March 13th. He was very thorough in outlining bariatric surgery and its risks. Both Dr. Cooperston and his assistance Fern have the process of introducing candidates to the surgical process down to a 'science'. I was given clear expectations of what will need to transpire to receive medical clearance. Overall, I was very pleased with the service and knowledge provided. I hope to proceed very soon to the next phase of scheduling surgery!

After a number of months planning and handling other medical problems, I finally had the surgery on August 20th. Dr. Cooperstone and his assistant Fern not only handle the physical, but the emotional, which is such an important aspect of the process. Dr. Cooperstone provides for a support group for both pre and post op patients which is extremely helpful in all aspects.

The surgery went well and Dr. Cooperstone was completely on top of everything. I would highly recommend the entire team!!!

Dr.Cooperstone seemed compassionate and made sure I fully understood every detail. He tested me to make sure I completely heard what he was saying. He had a great sense of humor (which for me is very important).

His assistant/secretary Fern is friendly and efficient.

When I first met Dr. Cooperstone he was very cordial and seemed to ask me a lot of questions. I realized he wanted to be sure that I was 100% positive that it was something I wanted to do. There were some tests I already had the results of as I had visited St. Lukes hospital first and wasn't impressed after having the tests and then speaking to them a few times. Dr C. then told me other tests I needed to have and to make an appointment for a sleep study. I was impressed with his thoroughness. His examination was short but I guess thorough enough for him to know what he needed to know. I saw him again and he said Fern (his office manager - or should I say his right arm - kind, thorough, always there for you) would give me a surgery date. That was that and I spoke to him once after I had sent him an e-mail (which he answered quickly). I did not see or speak to him again until the day of surgery (4/23/02). One thing - he will NOT do the surgery if he feels you are not a good candidate - he is careful and cautious. I saw him 2 weeks after surgery (I had to go back into the hospital for a few days due to a complication because of meds I was taking). After care is good - I've seen him 2X - no extra blood tests yet - he explains exactly how and when certain foods can be introduced into your regimen. He did explain any and all risks of surgery and I feel surgical competence AND bedside manner are important. I NEED and WANT someone I can relate to and Dr. C. fits the bill. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. C. a 9 3/4 since none of us is perfect in the scheme of things. I would use Dr. C. again if I had to do it over and I've recommended him to anyone I've come in contact with that asked for a surgeon. I need to say one thing - when I call or visit an office I need to feel comfortable and Fern (office manager) goes above and beyond the call of duty in those aspects. If she were not a part of the team it would definitely impact the office. The flow of how all is done is impecable and the Dr. is just about always running on schedule - not more than 15 minutes off compared to other Dr's where you can wait 2 hours. NOW I'M DONE!!

My first impression of Dr. Cooperstone was that he was not too friendly and very blunt. After my first consult with him I wasn't sure of what to think so I went to this very site to read up on what others thought and I could see that almost everyone said the same things, but they also said that after getting to know him it is all part of the screening. He wants you to be serious because this isn't just changing your hair color and he is not there just to make friends, he genuinely wants to help people and at this point I am glad for his bluntness. He is very professional and tries to make you laugh at the same time.

His office staff consists of Fern and she is the most helpful and sweet women you will ever meet. She is always glad to help or answer your questions. She is a Godsend.

Anyone looking to have a consult with Dr. Cooperstone should be prepared to speak to a highly professional and skilled Dr. that wants to help you in any way he can but at the same time expect him to be quick and to the point. He will not baby you, it will be your decision to have this surgery and be prepared to think about it for a week. He will not schedule a second appointment for at least one week after your initial consult.

Dr. Cooperstone emphasizes aftercare extremely! It is the most important part of the whole life change you will go through...Yes I said LIFE CHANGE. That is exactly what it will be. Your life will be different forever and he stresses this fact.

My overall rating of him is a 9 out of 10. His surgical competence is great and his bedside manner is good.

I found him down to earth, friendly and very knowledgeable in the field. Looking forward to life. Office staff seems a bit confused at times, only one receptoionist Fern. Very well meaning and friendly. A bit overwhelmed I feel.
His direct approach to this surgery, opinions and willingness to answer all questions.
Future patients should be reassured by the w he presents himself professionally.
Aftercare is of utmost priority to the success of this surgery and he stresses this.
There is a very structured aftercare program and a wonderful monthly support group.
All risks of surgery are addressed truthfully backed by facts and statistics.
Dr. appers to be quite competent in all areas.
I'll let you know about the last question when it's all over.

My first impression of Dr. Cooperstone was that he seemed a little nervous
During the consultion I think he became more comfortable with me
He as my bestfriend would say" thinks who he is" which is 100% normal as far as surgeons go in my dealings with doctors the cockier the attitude the better the doc
what I like least about him was that he did not seem all that comfortable with me but I get that alot because I dont really make a good first impression I come off a bit too serious
His emphasize on aftercare was excellent
and adressed the risks of surgery right off the bat and did not down play it which I really liked
I would rate him a 8 so far I think when I get more comfortable the number will go up
Dr. Cooperstone was great, he went over the whole procedure step by step and explain it in terms that was very easy to understand what I liked most is that he did not change the way he explains it just because I am a nurse assuming that I would understand he answered all my question and made sure I was clear on all the facts and my concerns

I THINK DR.COOPERSTONE A GREAT DOCTOR HE THE TYPE OF DOCTOR THAT GETS RIGHT TO THE POINT.YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW UP WITH HIM MONTHIY HE WANTS YOUR TO TRY TO WALK AS SOON AS YOU COME HOME AND LIKE TWO HOURS AFTER BEING OUT OF SURGERY SO THIS WAY YOU DONT DEVELOP BLOOD CLOTS.HE LETS YOU KNOW ABOUT THE RISKS OF SURGERY THEN HE MAKES YOU TAKE A TEST ON WHAT HE HAS TOLD YOU. I THINK ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10 HE A 10 HES A REALLY GREAT DOCTOR.

MY first impression was that i liked him but he seemed a lil strange after a few meetings i trusted him and now post op i love this man he got me through i am on the other side and although it was just a few days ago i know that this man was on top of it the whole time.... fern is very awesome she is the one who gets her job done she can make the hardest of insurance people give up the dime. these two are better than batman and robin there was nothing i didnt like about them... future patients need to know to do what he tells you to do. if you are a smoker quit smoking you wont regret it. youa re told what you can eat and what you cant eat its really plain and simple right now im on liquids and sugarfree jello... dr cooperstone tells of all risks involved i would over all on a scale or 1 to 10 everyone involved was soo awesome that i would have to go with the 100% way better than a 10...the unpleasantness was the pain i was in pain for 3 and a half days and i was scared. but the staff and everyone made me feel so much better.
