SC Obesity Surgery Center Bariatric Center

I first met Dr. Strickland at a seminar he was giving on the surgery, that is mandatory before you can get an inital appointment with him. I really enjoyed the information he presented in the seminar, it was very imforative and honest, he spoke about the good, bad and the ugly. Once I met him at his office, he carried that same uplifting, caring personality and concern for my well being. He was very patient with me and my husband and took time to make sure he answered every question that either of us had. I would rate him an excellent choice for a surgeon.

Dr Strickland and all in his office are wonderful. Everything moved smoothly and quickly. They make every consideration for our size (office furniture etc.) and are more than helpful with anything you need. I was pleased to find Dr Stricklands attitude a lot different than previous doctors. I know im Morbidly Obese. I know how I got here, He didnt scold me or patronize me, just told me how he can help me. Yippeeee!!!!

Dr. Strickland and his group are wonderful! You can tell that they really care about you as a individual and they care about your problem! I only met with Dr. Strickland and his staff in a seminar that he holds once a month - it was very informal and informative. I really felt comfortable and would recommend Dr. Strickland to anyone that would be interested in having this surgery. The seminar was like an open forum where you could ask questions while things were being explained.
They put a lot of emphasize on aftercare that you would be a patient of theirs for the rest of your life.
I think that both are needed. You want someone with competence but has a bedside manner that makes you feel like he is really interested in you and what's wrong with you and how you're feeling.

Dr. Strickland and Dr. Givens both seem very nice. Dr. Strickland is very personable; I even found out that we share the same dentist. They encouraged me to bring family and friends to our first meeting. I brought my closest friend and confidant who will also be helping me through recovery and they made her feel at home. Dr. Strickland and his nurse, Amanda, answered all our questions and were very open about the whole procedure. Right now, Dr. Strickland only does Open RNYs. He feels the laproscopic procedure for the RNY just isn't refined yet, although he does do lap surgery for other procedures. So far I have no complaints about Southern Surgical or Dr. Strickland, nor do I expect to. Everything has met the level or professionalism that I was expecting.

Dr. Strickland is extremely friendly and helpful. My first appt he seemed very patient and not in a hurry. No question was silly and he looks like he finds his work very rewarding. I look forward to meeting with him again on my follow up on 3/29/01.
He does have a structured aftercare program. He follows you closely for the rest of your life. He plans on checking regularly for vitamin defeciencies.

Dr Strickland dictated my letter the same afternoon I came into his office. He is on top of things, I like that. He and Amanda are awesome. They even impressed my mother who admits she is hard to impress.
Amanda, Dr Strickland nurse, and Dianne, the billing rep, have been so helpful and attentive. They always return phone calls and are always on top of their job. What a great encouragement that is .

The surgeon I have picked is Dr Glen Strickland of Lexington South Carolina. I have not been to see him as of yet, but my appointment is 2/21/00. I will up date soon
2-21-00: I had my appt today. It went well and Dr Strickland said he would do the surgery on me. I have to see his nutritionist and his psychologist and then schedule another appt for myself and for my husband to come along with me. Dr STrickland is a very nice man. He is about my age (late 30s, early 40's) a great bedside manner. His staff was very friendly. I will let yall know more as I know more. Whew, at least I have a surgeon now, and he's in my own town.
4-5-00 I now have a surgery date for May 23rd, 2000. I am, so far, very happy with Dr strickland. He and his staff do everything they say the are going to do. I also like him because he will not just jump into doing the surgery because you want it. He carefully screens his potential surgical candidates for their potential success-failure rate, but its not the extensive hoop jumping like some of the other surgeons do. I also liked the fact that he insists on having your spouse, or other support persons come to an appt to ask questions and gain information on the care of a post op WLS patient. He has an easy personality, a great beside manner and is very easy on the eyes (lol). His program includes weekly meetings with him or the nutritionist for the 1st 6 weeks, then monthly, then yearly after that for ever. I have not had any negative experience with him or his staff to this point. I will write more as I experience more.
5-19-00. So far I have had a very positive experience with him and his office. they return calls when they say they will, and even called me to make sure I wasn't too nervous about the surgery. The only thing that bothered me was that they charge $10.00 per form to fill out any insurance paperwork or leave of absence paperwork. I thought that was a little high.
6-9-00
My overall experience was positive. My surgeon is very attentive and personalble, but the rest of the partners ( the one's that I met and dealt with) are typical surgeons. 2 seconds on the phone or in your hospital room and then they are gone. Especially Dr Myatich....he blew me off when I called him about a problem. But I will handle that later
