Surgery Specialty Hospitals of America Bariatric Center

I was very nervous at first. I was in the process of switching Dr. I was originally with Dr. Spigal but was not pleased. When I met with Dr. Alanis, he was very welcoming and pleasant. He didn't talk about the surgery. He talked to me about my life, goals and what I wanted to accomplish. He stressed that this was a life style change and discussed with me what my life would be like after surgery. He was very detailed in explaining the surgery risks and what I needed to do to be successful. I was very impressed with him. The office staff and the lady that helps with the insurance are great.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Alanis. He is a very gifted surgeon. I would recommend Dr. Alanis to anyone wanting the best care in Houston. I honestly cannot express my appreciation of him. His office staff is wonderful, and his nurse, Linda, is the best. They are always willing to assist you in any way possible.rnrn

First impression of Dr. Alanis was that he was professional and caring. He and his office staff were really helpful and were ready to answer any questions I had. There are two aftercare places to go near his office but since I live too far away to attend these, his staff referred to this site. Dr Alanis explained the risks of the surgery and made me comfortable enough to go ahead with the lap-band. Both he and his staff are great. I would recommend them to anyone.

I like Dr. Alanis. He was clear about the different types of surgery available to me and the advantages/disadvantages of them. I am not however happy about the insurance approval process so far. It seems that the dr. office is having to \"Find\" a bariatric center that will accept my insurance plan, so that he can use their facilities. I have been waiting for this process to complete for about 2 months now. I have been in contact with the office staff and they assure me that this process could take this long. Although this is disappointing for me I am continuing to be patient. I'd like to have my surgery before 2009.

I met Dr. Miranda a week prior to my surgery. He introduced himself and began to explain the procedure in as much detail as possible. He answered my list of questions which was very long. Time to him was not an issue. He was eager to educate, inform, and answer any question, doubt, or fear. He was honest, which is very important. He presented himself very well and I walked out of his office very pleased on the first day. I knew he would be my surgeon! rnrnThe office staff at Dr. Miranda's is awesome! They always ask how you are. The first day I called they answered all my questions. I walked in the office laughing and they have continued to answer any question I may have. rnrnAftercare is very important. The office, which has a full-time dietician, provides you with detailed information about diet and exercise. Anyone can understand the diets. The stress of continuing to see the doctor and following the diet is very important. rnrnThere are risks to the surgery. Dr. Miranda does not lie or stray away from them to convince you. He said that it was a personal decision but he had to tell me. rnrnHe presented himself very well in his office, the day of my surgery, and the days after my surgery. You have to find a physician that knows if there is complications what he will do. I have not had any so far but I am assured he is competent to help me if there should be any. rnrnDr. Miranda provided the surgical competence I needed and the bedside manner which was consistent and caring. I will forgive be grateful for the care that Dr. Miranda and his staff have provided me. rnrnThey have opened the door to a lot of possibilities. rnrn

My first impression of Dr. Alanis is that he truly cares about his patients as human beings. My opinion of him has not changed. His office staff is great and very friendly and kind. They really know what they are doing with insurance companies. There is nothing I don't like about Dr. Alanis, he is kind, soft spoken. He treated me with respect. Alanis emphasizes after care, and it is very important for a successful surgery. Dr. Alanis did my revision and I thought everything was ok after the surgery but I started having fever the next day it was about 48 hours after the surgery on Christmas Eve I had emergency surgery to repair the leak after almost going into heart failure. I spent 13 days in and out of ICU. Pneumonia , PE in one lung, infection MRSA in the wound afterwards had a wound vac for about three weeks I thought I was going to die before I started healing and I have been in pain every day since. I know he went back in and saved me but I believe a revision surgery is a huge mistake and should not be done. To recommend a diet and exercise or a dietitian would have been more prudent and medically sound. He was assisted in the surgery by Dr. Miranda another surgeon. Dr. Alanis's bedside matter is one of the best I have ever seen, he is very careful not to hurt you and I believe he is a good person but no one should have a revision for 30 or 40 pound weight gain and if not for my job I would not have done it. I would recommend him to anyone as a surgeon but bariatics I would not no matter who the surgeon except maybe a Lapband. My life has been forever altered due to the revision surgery. I will be in pain the rest of my life. I regret it greatly as I said he is a nice person and a good general surgeon and I think he is a good doctor and I knew if anyone did the risks before the surgery but when you sign the papers no one thinks the "possible" things will ever happen to them WRONG the only side effect I did not have was death.

dr miranda was very understanding and respected my beliefs. his staff worked with me and and even returned my phonecalls quickly. my brother inlaw went to see dr. miranda 2 months after my surgery and his results have been wonderful. he went over all the information with me and even the risk. but above all he took great care for me and also the hospital i stayed. he has a great bedside manner and is very competent in his work. he takes great pride and great care for all his patience before and after.
