I really like my surgeon even though I have only met with him three times now. He is easy going and if your nervous, well you won't be as much after you talk to him.

My 1st impression of him was very good. He came in and he started talking to me like he knew me forever. He was the best surgeon ever. I was so scrared and when I walk in to the Surgery suite he came over and held my hand and told me to think happy thoughts and that I would be fine. It only took about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Dr Mattar is such a great doctor. He is very compassionate and considerate. He lead the seminar I went to and was extrememly knowledgeable and sincere. He was very competent, but he was not cocky. He had a wonderful bedside manner, which I think is very important. He was always upfront and honest about everything that was going on. The staff at Clarian Bariatric is great too, from the nurses to the dieticians. They are all so caring. They are very adamant about aftercare. They want to know how you are doing. I am extremely satisfied with my choice in Dr Mattar and Clarian Bariatric. I would recommend them to anyone. rnEven though I had a great doctor and the staff at his office were great, I did however have a few hospital staff I was not crazy about. Some were great while others seemed to be in such a hurry and were quick to forget what you asked. I also had some minor complications with the procedure. No matter how experienced your doctor, there is always the potential for soemthing to go wrong. Always make sure you know exactly what to expect before you go in. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

I believe anyone considering BS should at least read my experience. My surgery took place in May of 2004 in Pittsburgh, Pa. I highly doubt Dr. Mattar has forgottten me, considering all we went through together. My first impression of him was that he was so kind and his qualifications were impeccable. I felt completely confident in him and his staff. However, during my surgery I had a complication, one that is not listed among the list of possible risks. (One that none of the Doctors in Dr. Schauer's group had ever heard of, according to what I was told.) I had an RNY and unfortunately the portioned off part of my stomach was perforated and subsequently dissected. I suffered horribly for 7 days until I went to the emergency room and someone realized how very ill I was. The immedate result was an emergency surgery that night, and then another surgery the next day for additional corrections. As an update, I lost well over 100 lbs. in just 6 months, yet I am left with the scars, physically & emotionally, of what I went through. To this day, I am extremely iron deficient, still have problems eating and suffer with constant pain in my abdomen and have suffered severe depression for all the years I've been sick. I also had to endure 4 further surgeries to remove adhesions apparently caused by the commplications, (as I was told) as well as a hernia repair. (That's 7 surgeries if you're keeping count!) It's not that I don't recommend this surgery to anyone, because I do, but look at the qualifications of EVERYONE on the team, not just great doctors like Dr. Mattar, but especially any interns that may have a great deal of say when it comes to your care. YOUR surgeon's bedside manner isn't everything. p.s. I would love to hear from you, Dr. Matter.

Dr. Mattar is my surgeon. My first impression of him is that he is very knowledgeable and vested in his patients and their well being. The staff at the Clarian Bariatric Center appear very caring and committed. The Clarian family of professionals demand that every client and their family members have have extensive knowledge about pre-op and post-op procedures way before the discussion of surgery cross your lips and mind. For example, another patient and his family members spent approximately 4-6 hours at the center discussing the preparations for surgery and potential complication. The center also openly receives other clients from various centers for revision and/or education. In September 2007, the Clarian Bariactric Center received the distinguished award for \"The Center of Excellence.\" I'm proud to be a member of this family.
