Dr. Mattar is a wonderful doctor. His practice offers an incredible before and after care program. He has a staff member solely devoted to working with insurance. His nurse has had Roux-en-Y and is a great success story. The practice has two dieticians who provide support groups and cooking classes, He was very clear about the risks of surgery and promises no quick fixes, but is just as clear about the benefits of surgery. He is a kind, soft-spoken man whose bedside manner is very caring. I couldn't have hoped to find a more wonderful surgeon. My only complaint with the whole experience was the nursing care I received in the hospital (Clarian North in Indianapolis). Dr. Mattar and his office manager are addressing the problems and I'm confident changes will be made.

Dr. Mattar was absolutely wonderful! His soothing personality helped decrease my anxiety and he seems truly concerned about his patients. rnrnHe called me the night before the surgery to see if I had any questions or concerns. Just knowing that he was making an extra effort to connect w/me before the surgery day was a great relief. rnrnWhile the anestesiologist was doing his work in the OR, Dr. Mattar simply held my hand - a gesture that let me know that I was in excellent hands. rnrnHis surgical compentence and bedside manner are second to none.

I had Dr. Mattar as a surgeon when he was in Pittsburgh, PA. I loved him. I feel as though he made the entire surgery process feel like I was going for a haircut. I was not stressed about it at all. I think my husband felt the same. We both liked the fact that Dr. Mattar talked to us both about the surgery and made sure we knew what we were getting in to. Dr. Mattar made me feel like I wasn't an outcast because I was fat. I knew he had my life in his hands and I knew it was the best thing that could happen. I would say he is the best. Since Dr. Mattar left Pittsburgh, I have transferred my care to a physician in my hometown and I like him too, but if Dr. Mattar was still in Pittsburgh, I would be too.

I was originally suppose to have Dr. Vincent Vanek but I was referred to Dr. Mattar because I was considered high risk. Dr. Mattar and his staff were wonderful. So kind and soft spoken. Dr. Mattar explained everything thoroughly to myself and my family. I could not have asked for a better doctor.

Upon meeting Dr. Mattar at the initial patient workshop, I was impressed -- and after having my pre-op appointment I was sure that there was a Divine Power that led me here to UPMC. He is the third surgeon I have had to see concerning WLS, and by far the most skilled. He is compassionate, understanding, and makes you feel at ease from the start. He covers every aspect of your condition, and his staff is exemplary. Bill Grosh, his P.A., is also the best. The entire program at UPMC, by far, surpasses anything I have experienced in the last 4 yrs of trying to have this life-saving surgery. They cover everything from start to finish and beyond. My recommendation for them is FIVE STAR!

My surgeon is Dr Samer Mattar in Pittsburgh at Magee Women's Hospital. What a doctor. As I need to travel from Buffalo to Pittsburgh he has made the whole process unbelievably easy. During one of my fill appointments he called personally to tell me the weather was bad and he could reschedule any time that is convenient for me. Each time I see him he is genuinely interested in seeing me. His practice is not a surgery factory. After care is exemplary. I highly recommend him after my experience with the first surgeon.

Difficult to get your "foot in the door" in the beginning" but once there everything has gone smoothly. Very thorough, understanding and helpful. Staff very friendly and helpful. His sense of humor to relax you. Aftercare is very important. Each patient receives a booklet prepared by their offices that explains everything about the before, during and after surgery questions. Risks were covered explicity in booklet. Aftercare program is very structured with 3 day, 7 day, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and then yearly post op follow up visits. This group of surgeons at Magee Womens are very highly recommended. Surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
