William S. Peters, D.O. FACS Bariatric Center

DR. PETERS WAS VERY NICE. HE KEPT IN TOUCH WITH ME THE THIS WHOLE THING. HIS STAFF WAS WONDERFUL. DR ALWAYS SAYS THAT IS IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT U KEEP YOUR APPOITMENTS AFTER TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY WITH U. HE DOESNT SUGAR COAT THINGS, HE LETS YOU KNOW ALL THE PROS AND CONS.OVERALL HE IS A GOD SENT!!!

i can't say enough about dr. peters and his staff. they have been so helpful, and caring i couldn't have asked for dr. he made sure that i was totally informed about all the risks involed, and gave me time to think about my decition. he even made me take a written test to see if i was prepared, can you imagain that? thank goodness i past! now all i have to do is wait, i'm getting a little nervous but i know dr. peters will take great care of me just getting cold feet, lol. aug. 6th will be here before i know it.all i can do now is pray all goes well.

1/11/03 - First Consult: I meet with Dr. Peters for my first consult. I had decided prior to my meeting with him that I wanted the BPD/DS surgery. Even though I was certain he still took the time to describe the three types of surgery that he does. Without me asking he mentioned the numbers of surgeries that he has done and his death rate (2 from blood clots).
I was impressed that his first questions were about the psychological impact of WLS and discussion of loss the large breast size (he did this very tactfully). He also asked me to describe how life will be different after weight loss.
Another early question had me stumpted for a few minutes: if I only lose 60 pounds rather than the 120-160 that I need to lose, would I feel that the surgery was worth it. By the way, after thinking about this I realized that even if I didn't lose all I want or need to, stopping the slow addition of weight on my body year after year after year would be worth it all.
I have been invited to his support group that meetings monthly. He requires that you meet with him at least one more time before submitting to insurance and scheduling the surgery. He asked me to read a small book and come back with additional questions. He also invited me to bring anyone with me whom I thought would benefit from getting questions answered.
Overall, I was very happy with my first consult.

I had my first apointment on May 2nd and It went very well. Dr. Peters is very direct and pulls no punches which is very reassuring because you won't hear things sugar coated rather you'll hear them just as they are. He explained the different surgeries in detail and seems to truly care for his morbidly obese patients. I had my 2nd apointment on June 27th and got approved from my insurance company on July 22nd. I got all my testing done and prepared for my surgery that was scheduled for August 12th.

I first emailed Dr. Peters via his website and he called me at home later that evening. We spoke at some length about surgery and he explained his philosophy about performing gastric bypass surgery. I was so impressed that he would take the time to call a potential patient! I later met with him twice prior to scheduling surgery. He is a very direct man who does not beat around the bush. Both times that I met with him, he made sure to spend plenty of time until I was satisfied that all my questions and concerns had been answered.

My initial contact with Dr. Peters was over the phone. Imagine that! He called me at home to discuss my questions that I had sent to him in email. I was extremely impressed that he took the time to contact me personally to discuss my questions. He referred me to call Robbie and make an appointment to see him for further discussion of the possibility of surgery. Valentines Day it was. I was very excited to be meeting a surgeon to discuss in person a topic that I have been researching for 2 years. My initial appointment was with another Dr. in Philadelphia. It took me 10 months to get an appointment with him, and after waiting 9 mos his secretary called me to say he retired and cancelled all future appointments for me. I was very upset, and put my crusade for wls on the back burner for a bit. I resumed my crusade in January, and that is how I found Dr. Peters.
My appointment with him was fantastic! He was very straightforward. No punches held and doesn't sugar coat the issue. We discussed past weight loss attempts/failures, future goals, surgery options and basically any question I asked he took the time to answer. I felt comletely at ease with him, not rushed(you know like at your regular family doctor). He stresses that you must have two appointments with him and also take a test to ensure him that you have a full understanding of the surgery pre-op and post-op expectations. He does have a support group, but it is over a 2hour drive for me so may not be a realistic option for me. I am very happy that I will be able to follow up with my own doctor at home as well as have pre-op testing done at home. Robbie is wonderful. I even called her regarding my insurance. New job, new insurance. Before making any decision I wanted to make sure that Dr. Peters participated with the plan. Yippee! Verified with the insurance co....they do. Now just to wait a few more weeks.....second apppointment and then the dreaded test(test anxiety, can you tell) I will be back with more.....Have nothing but positives to say about Dr. Peters and his staff! Worth the travel for me and not a "clinic" like some of these new weight loss surgery suites popping up all over.
The one thing that surprised me was the hospital was so small! I am from the big city and am used to the likes of Univ. of PA, Temple, Thomas Jefferson, etc... had a chuckle or two with Robbie because I almost completely drove past the hospital! It was clean and neat which are more important that the size of the building.
I had my second appointment with Dr. Peters. My husband came along and asked questions also which eased his mind to hear them directly from the doctor. The appointment went great. I passed the test, and reviewed pre-op requirements with Robbie. The insurance business was started and a tenative surgery date scheduled. End of July beginning of August. What a birthday present for me! August 9. Beginning of a healthier new life for me. Not sure if this is the actual date, but maybe......well...I received a wonderful present...surgery date scheduled for September 3. Now on with the preop tests! September 9, 2002. Made it through surgery fine. NO complications. Dr. Peters was/is fantastic. Very caring about your comfort level, intake, activity level, all around. I had a reaction to a medication, wasn't sure, called him on sunday...he called me back a few times to make sure all was right with the prescription. I believe I made an excellent choice in choosing Dr. Peters!

I first asked my primary care doctor about the surgery, and he recomended Dr. Peters. He was very comfortable wiht recomending me to him. Also my husband did some research for me at his work about Dr. Peters. He spoke to some of the doctors that he works wiht and they had nothig but good to say. SOOO, i made my appointment. It as a good and informative meeting. Dr.Peters told me like it was, he didnt sugar coat anything, And i respect him for that. I know all the risks that are involved, and complications that can happen. When i met Robbie, she was like a breath of fresh air!! She is so chearful and all smiles!! She speaks to you, not at you. She was wonderful in expalining things that needed to be done. Even on the phone, she is busy but she still will talk with you. She is really a wonderful woman and very supportive. I had my EDg done the other day, and Dr. Peters was very reasuring for me, i was nervious, but he talked wht me and calmed me down. he asked me if i was nervious about the surgery, and i said no, but this EDG was killing me!!I made it thru with flying colors!! I was very relaxed when everything was done

I have my first appointment with Dr. Peters on 8-29-02. I have exchanged emails with him and had a very pleasant experience when I spoke with Robbie to make my appointment. Dr. Peters invited me to a group meeting on 8-7-02 and I plan on attending.
8-20-02
I was able to see Dr. Peters on 8-15-02 because of a cancellation! I was very impressed with Robbie and Dr. Peters at the support group meeting on 8-7-02, but my experience at my appointment truly blew me away! They were both very professional, caring, and made me feel welcome. I feel as if I have known and have been seeing Dr. Peters for years! Dr. Peters is a man who is the epitome of a bariatric surgeon. The profile on Dr. Peters' website to me is an underestimation of the care and compassion he provides. I cannot say enough about him and Robbie. I look forward to my 2nd appointment and 2nd support group meeting in September!!

First Appt was on Feb 7. The first person I met was Dr.Peters assist/wife. She was absolutely wonderful and very sweet. Dr.Peters was not feeling well that day and he kept apologizing for not being his usual self. He was very nice and explained the surgeries to me. Because stomach cancer runs in both sides of my family he said he thought the best surgery would be the DS. Which I also agreed would be best. Even though Dr.P had other patients waiting to be seen he did not rush me, he made sure he answered all my question and I understood the risks as well as the benefits of the surgery. Robbie immediately went to work to find out if my insurance would cover the surgery. She found out that it would cover the WLS but not a physician that is out of my county. Dr. Peters is quite a ways from my county so I am in the process of changing insurances so that Dr.P will be the phys. to do my surgery. My next appt is on Feb 21 and although I won't have my new insurance by then I am able to keep my second appt so when my new insurance goes into affect Robbie will be able to process the paper work immediately. I'm hoping if all goes well to have surgery before summer. I will write more after my appt on 2/21/02.
I had my second appt. on 2/21/02. Dr.P and Robbie were great, they are so nice. Dr.P tested me on the info he gave me...first he gave me an oral test and then a written test. I was so nervous trying to tell him what I learned but he understood my nervousness and told me to not to be nervous he just wanted to know what I learned. The written test was not hard at all, he just wanted to make sure I understood the possible complications as well as the great aspects of the surgery. Robbie told me that the new insurance I got will require me to have a psych eval and few other tests that Dr.P doesn't require, but the my ins. co. does. So, it's going to take a little longer for me until I get the surgery than I was hoping, but I will get it. I made appt. to get these additional tests done, but I wasn't able to get appt. for another month yet...this waiting part is the hardest!
July 24, 2002: After many months of waiting and jumping through hoops and over hurdles, I finally have been approved for my surgery by my insurance company!!! WoooHooo!!! My surgery date is Aug.26th.

Dr Peters is a very intriguing person. He kind of looks like he is looking right through you with his eyes yet..he can read you.Talking with him for 1 1/2 hours was very relaxing. He is very down to earth BUT RIGHT to the point and doesn't coat anything. Robbie the receptionist is extremely friendly and caring like the Dr is.They make you feel comfortable.Dr Peters makes you sell him on the fact why you think you need it and why you should have it.Also you take a test so you KNOW what the risks are,and understand them.
He lays all on the table in black and white for you,Letting you know it is not a walk in the park, and will be a whole new life for you.
