Dr. Naaman is very professional- Not good with bed side manner at all, but a wonderful surgeon. I have or will have vey little scarring in about one more month. His staff is absolutely wonderful. Everyone is too helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. Least favorite moment with Dr. Naaman was as soon as I woke up from surgery, I was in the worst pain of my entire life. I was furious because no one would give me anything. He came in to check on me and I expressed my pain to him. All he said was it was from trapped air, nothing could be done and it was normal, see ya tomorrow. I am sure that is normal, but more pain medicine would have been greatly appreciated. Only thing to realize and remember about Dr. Naaman is to not take him personally, that is just the way he is. I am not crazy about his post op diet. If I was doing what he dictates, I would still be eating strained soup and gatorade 5 weeks after surgery. I am very concerned about protien, so I have researched other post op diets and am taking one day at a time. Risks addressed sufficiently, rate him as an excellent surgeon. I feel surgical compitence is the utmost important factor. He doesn't have to be nice, just smart.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Naaman on Tuesday the 26th of February. He was very kind and soft spoken. You definetly would have to engage him to have a lengthy conversation with him. He has a website so I would advise going to his website and reading about him as well, it's very informative.
I couldn't get an appointment scheduled with him until I had gathered all my medical history and gotten a letter of recommendation to his office staff. That took some time since I have seen so many doctors over the years and my PCP was acting all squirly about writing a letter.
But when I finally got everything they needed, they shedule my appointment. Dr. Naaman answers all your questions and his staff is excellent. Amanda is who types up his letters and sends it off to the insurance company, so I have a feeling that I will be calling her frequently. I hope they don't mind me calling daily, cuz I am very anxious to have this surgery.
Overall I would recommend Dr. Naaman, but I think perhaps I should have the surgery first. So I will withold my final judgement until that time! :)

While waiting for him, I had a chance to look at some wonderful photographs he took from places around the world. My first impression was that he was very well traveled. I found him to be very personable. He made me feel like a person, not a surgical candidate. I went over the details in a nutshell. I had already done so much research that I knew a lot of what he was saying. After his speil, he asked if I had questions. I had a few and listened intently and answered. I didn't have my list of questions in front of me but he took the time for me to retrieve them and answered them.
His staff was very nice. WHile I was in the waiting room another lady was called for her turn. I guess the scale was right behind the door and that this lady was in for her pre-op because the nurse said, "This is the last time you'll see that number!!"
I really can't think of anything I disliked about him. He is a specialist and I know from experience with other specialists that the visit will be short and to the fact.
I think he liked that I had done my homework. I had all my records, even summarized them. I know his insurance lady really liked it.
He emphasized that I had to get up and walk as soon as possible. And then once home, to walk at least 30 minutes a day. A must, no buts.
I don't think he has a structured aftercare but I will confirm that when I go for my pre-op. His staff made it clear, however, that they are there for me whenever I need them.
We discussed the basic risks that really any sugery has. Nothing really sticks in my mind specifically that he said. I just remember that I had read about everything he brought up.
I would give him an 8 out of 10.
Surgical competence is definitely #1. However, patients must understand the mannerisms of specialists, that they often lack bedside manner, that the visits are short. Of course, a surgeon with a bedside manner would definitely be a plus.
I am so excited.

I have an appointment with Dr. Naaman on 2/5/02. Looking forward to asking him questions. Getting the appointment involved having 4 doctor's send him letters in my behave and a Pych eval, as well as, a patient Registration form. The premise here is that after the first visit they will submit all paperwork for the insurance approval. Will update this section after the visit.
2/5/02 - Saw Dr Naaman, nice man. I had a list of questions and he answered them all. He seems very optimistic in his responses. I asked about lifespan after WLS and his answer was non-committal, only to say it would approach a "Normal" lifespan. He does not have a support group. For the first 3 months he wants to the only person his patients go to with any problems. I agree with this approach. After that I do believe a support group may be needed.
His office staff said it would be 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before they even send the letter to the Insurance. After that I am supposed to call the insurance and ask if it has been approved. Only then would the Surgery be scheduled. His office staff seemed "Polished".

Dr. Naaman was very informative. He did not sugar coat any of my guestions he answered all my concerns and did not have a problem with me asking. I felt he wants you to be completly informed. His staff is very helpful. They never make you feel you are bothering them. They want you to call and be involved with them and the insurence approval. I will go in for my pre op appt. in two weeks and have surgery in three weeks.

My first impression of Dr. Adam Naaman was that of a person who is very confident. I felt that he knew his profession very well and was very comfortabe talking about it. He answered all of my questions and took his time to explain the procedure that I'd choosen: RNY Distal. I would recommend him to any and everyone who is considering WLS.

I will go and see Dr. Naaman for the first time on Janurary 15, 2002.
I have finally met Dr. Namaan for the very first time and he seems to be a very nice doctor. He answered all my questions and he was very calm and talk like he had some concern. To me that is very important. If you feel like someone really dosen't care about your well being then you surly don't want them cutting on you. His nurses were just beautiful especially Pam. She has this bubbly attitude that just makes all your fears go away. When I weighted myself I was like "Oh My God. I can't believe I have gained this much." She looks ate me with this smile and says "Oh it is not that bad." I could not help but laugh. What I really like is that my appointment was for 4:00 pm and I got there for 3:05. I was thinking that I would have to what for my appointment time to be seen so I sat down and got comfortable. I think I sat there for about 5 mintues before they called my name. I was shocked. I will update later with more information.
