It will soon be 13 years that Dr. Nagle did my RNY surgery. It may be strange to see a review so many years out but it's key to understand how GREAT Dr. Nagle did. I recently had some regain after staying at goal over 10 years due to the loss of my husband. As soon as I started working my tool, my tool worked for me. 13 years later, it still works and that is because Dr. Nagle did it RIGHT! Thanks Dr. Nagle, I really don't think I would be alive today if it we're not for you and the surgery.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nagle. He listens, really cares and is there for you when you need him. Not to mention he did a great job!rnrnQ: What was your first impression of him/her?rnrn1.) My first impression was one of great relief. I had a 2 page long list of questions and he sat and listened and answered everyone of my questions. He drew a picture of what was going to be done and assured me this was a good thing I was doing for the furture.rnrnQ: How did your impression change over time?rnrn2.) All for the better. I asked to go back and see him a second time as the date of my surgery was getting closer. I just wanted to make sure, and felt meeting someone once was not enough. They got me in right away and again he listened and answered all my questions. I walked away knowing he was \"THE MAN\", chuckle, chuckle.rnrnQ: How would you describe his/her office staff?rnrn3.) Liz gave me her direct number and she emailed as well. She kept me in the loop concerning the insurance and was a GREAT help in that area. Afterwards when I had complications the staff was there for me 24/7.rnrnQ: What did you like least about him/her?rnrn4.) NothingrnrnQ: What should future patients know about him/her?rnrn5.) That he has done this procedure with hundreds of patients. He is detailed, caring and has a wonderful hospital behind him, Northwestern Universary. You are in good hands with Dr. Nagle.rnrnQ: How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?rnrn6.) The Surgeon part is good, but I wish Dr. Nagle didn't have his follow up program through The Wellness Center. There is such a disconnect there and most end up not following up with them!rnrnQ: Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?rnHe does not do any of the follow up care the Wellness Center doesrnrnQ: How did he/she address the risks of surgery?rn rn8.) Truthfully, and factually.rnrnQ: How would you rate him/her overall?rnrn9.) Very Good!rnrnQ: Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?rnrn10.) BOTH!
My first impression of him was that he was extremely competent, confident and professional, not to mention good looking! He got right to the point, was honest and I felt I could trust him. On the day of my surgery, I was terrified and he was so reassuring. His office staff and nurses are the same, professional, competent and extremely helpful. All my paperwork was completed quickly and efficiently and his nurse even helped me find a new primary care physician who was sympathetic to bariatric patients (my pcp decided to back out of HMO IL and left me with no one to follow up with). Dr Nagel is at Northwestern Memorial and the before surgery screening and aftercare are extremely comprehensive. I was screened by a dietician, bariatric M.D. (other than Dr. Nagel) and psychologist prior to being approved for surgery, then attended four classes and had two more individual sessions with the Doctor and dietician before surgery. There was also a multimedia presentation available on the internet that was required by Dr. Nagel prior to my first surgical appointment. THis presentation was over 40 minutes long, interactive, and went over the entire procedure, including check-in to the hospital, exactly what would happen during and after the surgery and every risk possible due to the surgery. There are after surgery support groups, dieticians and nurses you can call 24/7 and follow-up care continues for one year. I would rate Northwestern's bariatric surgery program and excellent - 10 out of 10, and Dr. Nagel as a 10, also. His competence and bedside manner are both great. Final note, Dr. Nagel only does laproscopic RNY surguries. There are other surgeons who do open procedure RNY. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Nagel or his staff. However, I experienced a great deal of pain afterward and the morphine pump I was given did not help. Also, I developed a urinary tract infection from the foley catheter they used to keep my bladder urine free after surgery and wound up in the emergency room 6 days after surgery with a high fever and dehydration. So everything wasn't wine and roses. But I honestly say that the care I got from Dr. Nagel and his staff was top notch.

I only talked to Dr. Nagle during his seminar. He came highly recommended to me by several other doctors. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is one of the best facilities around.. I would not consider going anywhere else .
After attending the initial seminar I agree with the other reviews.. One can tell Dr. Nagle seems absolutely qualified, coupled with a wonderful personality. I am going through the proper requirements now. I have seen the Internist, nutritionist, and my Psych evaluation is tomorrow..
During this time frame I had to interact with some of the nurse’s in the Lifestyle program. I was extremely impressed with their knowledge , as well as professionalism! A great group..
I will be able to then start the classes and hopefully have my surgery by August.. I strongly recommend Dr. Nagle.. As I stated previously he was recommended to me via some extremely well qualified physicians , who I trust immensely . My advice is to be tenacious, and do not let obstacles get in your way!!! “Never problems, just solutions”!! I am very excited, as my new journey will start very soon!!

I first met Dr. Alexander Nagel at a weight loss seminar in August of 2009. My first impression was, is this doctor any good and from the seminar I was pleased to find out that Dr. Nagle is a great surgeon. His stuff is great, really great and out of 5 star, I give the stuff and Dr. Nagle 5 stars out of 5 stars. I didn't find anything wrong with Dr. Nagle and his staff. Dr. Nagle and his staff had a wonderful structure for aftercare from weight loss surgery. Dr. Nagle andhis staff did a great job explaning the risks of weight loss surgerney. I had the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) on June 8, 2010. I am now enjoying life now because of Dr. Nagle. Thank you very much Dr. Nagle and thank you to his staff. I'm happy overall with everything that Dr. Nagle and his staff has done for me so I can have a normal life.
