I haven't met the doctor yet. My consultation is scheduled for Sept 11th

I had my consultation with
Dr. Meyerowitz on 6 April 2000.
The doctor was professional and straight
forward. He answered all of my questions.
His staff is pleasant. It is helpful if
you take a written diet history - I didn't
and in my nervous state couldn't remember
a lot of my dieting efforts.

I was able to get an early surgery date
because someone had cancelled so it was
offered to me. My date is 24 May instead of
28 June.

The doctor is very specific about what he
wants you to do after surgery. He wants you
to know that you have the power to make or
break this tool. If you follow what he says
you will be successful.

He went over the risks of surgery, but made
me feel that he would do everything he could
to minimize those risks.
He was very upfront about the deaths of his
patients from surgery. He explained each of
them (3)in a way that I felt very comfortable.
The first two were a long time ago when the
surgery was different that it is today. The
last one was a few years ago. The patient
was very large and had hepititis (sp).
That patient died of complications from the
hepititis rather than from the surgery.

One of my concerns was that he might be
retiring soon and wouldn't be able to do
personal follow-up. He said that he wasn't
planning on retiring for about 18 months.

Overall, my impression of him was positive.
I feel comfortable putting my life in his
hands. He has done over 1400 surgeries.

I will Contact his office today and find out
where to start.

He feels I would be a good candidate for the surgery. We have a family appointment on Nov 22,1999

Just loved the office Staff!

His personal visits at the Hospital after surgery were very helpful. He changed my pain medication and reminded me of the rules to follow.

He gives you detailed information on aftercare...

I can't think of anything negative to say...
He was even available to call me back on New Yrs day regarding a liquid tylonal question.

He could have had a Nurse call me back...........

Dr Meyerowitz IS THE BEST!!!His firm caring manner is a nice change from Doctors telling you what you want to hear only to rush you out of the office.

Dr. Meyerowitz is an experienced caring surgeon who advocates surgery for morbidly obese individuals, he is very knowledgeable and my husband and I both feel confident that he is the right surgeon for me, we feel he is very worthy of our trust. He is straightforward regarding surgical risks and steps necessary to achieve optimal weight loss for RNY surgery.

Went for a consult for lap procedure with Dr. Vierra/ oddly after about 5 calls to Lifeguard which is the latest insurance carrier the employer switched to it was approved. I have set up surg date 4/16 and await approval/denial from the carrier. My impression of Dr. Vierra is that he is an extremely intelligent physician with the best interest of his patients in mind, clever with a quick wit. His nurse Michelle is very efficient and professional, she is supportive as well.

Dr. Meyerowitz is an excellent surgeon. Very knowledgable . He really wants you to know what you're in for before you have the surgery. My initial impression of him was "Boy, is he a grump!" But now I fully understand why one year out. He has more than proven to be the best choice for me.
The office staff have been supportive, I've gotten some of the best hugs from Rebecca! The aftercare has been all good, Dr. M. continues to remind us to eat correctly. The R-N-Y is not a miracle but only a tool, and if you do not continue to use the tool correctly it will cease to work for you. Dr. M.'s initial bedside manner was a little gruff in the beginning but later I saw that he was a kind caring doctor who just wanted me to be serious about the surgery.

Professional, knowledgeable, confident.

As the consultation wore on I felt that a productive exchange of information and facts was conducted.

Dr. M's sense of humor surfaced and he was not as intimidating as a first impression could have formulated.

This surgery should be your decision as a fully informed prospective client. My feeling was that your continued viability was paramount.

The aftercare program appears structured and stringent. I do not feel I will be operated on and then tossed out to my own devices. This is very important.

The risks of surgery were addressed point by point and we were asked to sign to that effect.

Dr. Meyerowitz performed my bypass in June, 1988. I knew of him through my mother whom had her bypass done 3 years earlier.

I found Dr. Meyerowitz to be very honest, direct and upfront regarding every aspect of his procedure. I found him to be very easy to talk to. There was never a "stupid" question to him.

As a matter of fact, during my counseling process, I almost felt like he was trying to talk me out of the surgery. This ended up helping me considerably in making my final decision. It really, really made me stop and seriously analyze the "pros" and "cons" of the surgery and how it was going to effect the remainder of my life. It was then that I realized I needed to "want" this surgery for MYSELF, and not have this surgery because somebody else wanted me to.

After I had my surgery, I can remember my post-op beginning right in the ICU. No time was wasted in getting me up and moving around, going to the bathroom, etc. Before I knew it, I was going home. And, as for aftercare, him and his staff were always there for my every concern or need, in addition to my regularly scheduled follow ups. And, Dr. Meyerowitz carefully guided me carefully through my preparation in moving to the State of Georgia to be with my mother only a month after my surgery.

I'll never forget the compassion Dr. Meyerowitz had in helping me change my life for the good. Finally, I want to share a statement he made to me right before my surgery (which was scheduled on my birthday, 6/3)that will be forever etched in my memory: "Just consider yourself as being reborn today". He was right, I found a totally new way of living life. For the first time in my life, I was - eating to live NOT living to eat. He is an extraordinary man!

I changed surgeons and I am so glad I did.

Dr. Basil Meyerowitz:
I can't say enough good things about him. He is a bit gruff to start with however he genuinely cares about his patients.
He is available to me day or night. I can call to ask even the simplest of question and he or his staff is always so helpful and willing to answer questions.
They really work with the patient and your insurance.
Doc Meyerowitz does not have an aftercare program per say however there is a monthly support meeting that he suggests that meets at Peninsula Hospital Monthly. He will often times participate and be a guest speaker.
He was very through when explaining all the risks, and very through as to what to expect after surgery. He took as much time as I needed to answer my questions. I went in with 5 pages worth of questions.. and he answered them all.

Dr. Meyerowitz is a great doctor and has very good results. He is a little crusty when you first meet him but he improves upon acquaintance. He is very to the point and does not put up with excuses. I like him, he has been very good to me.
