Benjamin Hung Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Hung, his nurse Lisa and the staff have given me a wonderful experience. My surgery was April 29, 2003, and at my three-month visit, I was down 56 pounds. I knew from the beginning that he was a professional, but I didn't know just how much he cares about his patients. He takes time to answer any question and never makes you feel inferior for asking. Lisa, his nurse, always returns calls (promptly!) and has the answers that I need. I believe they spent time and effort preparing me for my surgery, time and effort that has helped me be successful and given me the confidence that I can, ultimately, reach my goal weight. I have appreciated having both the pre- and post- support groups and the dietician for help with quetions and concerns. If the scale is a 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest possible rating, I would rate Dr. Hung a 10 - without hesitation. While he helped me understand the potential for problems and risks, I believe he does everything in his power to see that each of his patients is well-cared for and safe. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon, nor could I have found one who is more caring or concerned about his patients. I am grateful that I chose him - and he said yes.
Hello Update! I have met Dr Hung and his Staff they are great.. Dr Hung is great about answering your ?'s I love his nurse As well. My Surgery Date Is sceduled for April 15Th 5:30 Am.. check in time is 4 am wow..LOL. My surgery Is Going to be at Bryon LGH East Medical Center In Lincoln..
Also I am so excited because he does not make you do that ( empty your system out) stuff I do not have to drink that yucky Stuff that is so cool..
Also the support group is great I just wish they had a closer meeting place than just lincoln. I would like to say the Office staff is great especially his Nurse I love her.. she is always helpful and willing to answer ?'s
And by the way the Dietician they had me go to was really nice.. she said she loves it when the spouces come with ?'s and she can see they have researched the diet plan as well as patient. she spent almost 2 hours with us answering ?'s as well as asking them.
And Dr Hung Goes to the support meetings so does his nurse, the Dietician as well.. So far I would rate both him and his Doctor office Staff about 8-9 if highest was 10, i would give a 10 to the dietician, I will admit that I was not to thrilled with the phyc. Doctor.. but she passed me so guess I should be thrilled.
Dr Hung is great, He is very upbeat and truly excited for people that want to have this surgery. I think that he is highly qualified and truly cares about his patients. At every support group meeting he is there and makes sure to try and talk to most/all of his patients. The support groups are now being split into 2 groups because they are so large (usually 40+) Splitting into PRE OP and POST OP. Every month Dr. Hung, his nurse Lisa, dietician Lynne, and the Psych Judi are there.
Lisa his nurse is awesome, my insurance had lost my paperwork (after calling once a wk and told everything going smoothly) and she called and had everything taken care of with them. She never acts like I am bothering her even though I have been trying to get a surgery date. =)
My first impression of Dr. Hung was that he seemed to be very kind. He answered most of the quesions that I had. His office staff ( nurse) was a very kind person and made me feel very comfortable. She answered questions I had and seemed to be very on top of things. She called to let me know that she had gotten approval for the procedure. They told me of a suppotr group that I could attend and they make sure that you are able to go through with the surgery in all areas. They want to make sure that you are in the best health that you can be in and that you are mentally able to handle this also. THey give you a lot of information about the procedure. They did expalin the risks that are involved. I would give them a great overall rating .
My first impression of Dr. Hung was very positive. He has a smile on his face and answers all questions patiently. He and his nurse told me they believe they could get approval for me, as they have already been able to get other hospital employees (I work in a hospital) approved before me. His office staff are wonderful, helpful and they do answer telephone messages. His nurse Lisa is very friendly and nice.
His practice is getting VERY busy now, so people should go in with their ducks in a row and with all paperwork filled out. He and his "network" have established a monthly support group, which has gotten so large it will divide in 2/03 to pre and post-op. The "team" consists of a psychologist, dietician, Dr. Hung and his nurse Lisa. They attend the group monthly with their patients.
All risks and aspects of the surgery were approached and he does like to see that a person has done research and footwork.
He requires an appointment pre-surgery with a psychologist and dietician. I had my appointment with them a few weeks ago, and was pleased with my time with the dietician. The psychologist was actually a Ph.D. student, and I felt she carried a great deal of bias about obesity. I work as a mental health therapist and was genuinely concerned with her bias and attitude. Although I haven't found out if I "passed" their exam, I suspect I did.
I am now waiting on approval.
I liked Dr Hung right away when I met him. Although he seemed a bit hurried (who isn't these days!) he make me feel comfortable and confident. His nurse Lisa is just wonderful. She handled EVERYTHING from other doctor's visits I needed, to insurance approval, to the actual surgery. I just had to show up. Dr Hung and Lisa were at the first support group meeting that I went to. This is just way above and beyond these days in my opinion.
We spent the majority of our time with Dr. Hung's nurse reviewing paperwork. We saw Dr. Hung for 15 or so minutes on our first visit. At that time we were instructed to check-out our insurance as he quoted us an approximate procedure cost. Dr. Hung encouraged us as to the necessity of attending a support group to see for ourselves all the different impacts this choice produces. Due to DeAnna's young age he sent us for a second opinion to Dr. Danny Jacobs at Creighton Med. Center in Omaha. Dr. Jacobs inspired confidence as he spent nearly 90 minutes with us answering all our questions and providing us with much needed and appreciated information. Our first impression after our initial consultations is that of cautious continuation.
I feel Dr Hung is very cautious and careful. He makes sure u are ok in every aspect, before u get a surgery date.He is easygoing friendly but also very knowledgable about the surgery and answered all my questions. I really have a huge respect for his office nurse Lisa, she has been very easy to talk to and tries to help in any way she can, she was able to get my insurance approval and was organized in setting up all my other appointments for psych and pulmonary, dietary eval. I think a map of Madonna hosp would be helpful in her information package and also when u go for a psych eval, dietian, pulmonary, u should be given the option to pick one. I think the support group is a valuable asset to everyone and will be such a tool to help all of us be sucessful in weightloss, knowledge, and support.
I met with Dr. Hung on Monday, November 4th. My first impression was that he was a very kind, knowledgeable doctor. He was happy that I had researched gastric bypass surgery so much and knew what needed to go on and was familiar with the surgery. He went over my paperwork, asked some questions, and said that it appeared that I was a good candidate for surgery. I really liked his nurse, Lisa, too. She was very nice and made me feel very welcome and good about the visit. She made all the appointments with the pulmonologist and the neuropsychologist and the dietician for me. Hopefully I'll get notification that insurance has approved the surgery.
Dr. Hung described the support group that is relatively new here in Lincoln. He emphasized the importance of being in contact with others who are preop and post op. I'm looking forward to attending the meetings. Dr. Hung was also very honest on the surgery and possible complications. I know that things can go wrong, but he was very good about explaining the precautions they take before, during and after surgery. All in all, my feeling about Dr. Hung is great and I'm glad he'll be doing the surgery.
