Beryl Harberg Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

When I first met Dr. Harberg I was a little hestitate because of what I had read about him from other people's responses. However, my worries were put to rest after the first couple of minutes. He is very professional and serious, which he should be, while he went over the procedure and my medical history. Once he knew I was serious about this decision, I noticed a change in his attitude towards me. He even made some jokes. I like him and would recommend him to any of my family or friends. His office staff has been wonderful in helping me with my questions and with my insurance.

Dr. Harberg is an older gentleman who has been in the bariatric arena for many years. He is very straightforward about lifestyle changes and how the surgery will help and how it will not. He went over all of the risks associated with the surgery several times and even made me repeat a few. He has a detailed aftercare program and he's very strict about his patients following it.

His office staff is great! Tammy and Vicky were very helpful.

01/07/02 Well I met my Dr. Harberg, I really did like him. He was very secured and new what he was talking about. My impression change for the better, I am so excited I can't wait. The staff was great, I have no negative comments about him at all. He is well informed and know what he is doing. I have to wait two weeks for my decision. I will let you know the progress.

I thought he was great right from the begining i liked him.

He was very adimant that I was having the surgery for myself and no one else. I thought he was a bit abrupt in the beginning but after my second consult with him, I was perfectly comfortable with him. His office staff was absolutely wonderful to work with, very understanding and helpful with next steps in the approval process. Future patients, suspend your judgement early on, he is a wonderful surgeon who will take great care of you. He was insistent that I follow post op instructions because he would not re-do this surgery. He was very honest about the risks of the surgery and provides great documentation to read through about the procedure.
On a scale of 1 - 10 , I would rate him at 10. He is great !!!

March 2000 Dr. Harberg has a no-nonsense attitude. My first appointment/exam was thorough and he gave me opportunity to ask anything. He did not try to convince me to have surgery, he gave me the facts and then listened to what I had to say. We discussed my decisions together. I am an operating room nurse at the hospital where he performs surgery. Being saavy with hospital life I had specific requests that the surgeon was happy to accomodate. It is my opinion that Dr. Harberg's surgical hands are competent.
Dr. Harberg and I do not share a compatible sense of humor. I state this as a fact, not a slam on the surgeon. The office staff is pleasant, and I was treated with dignity.
October 2000 I have seen the good doctor several times since surgery. More than most folks as one visit was just to remove the T-tube. OUCH! The MD does listen to me, and has always answered my questions to my satisfaction. April 2001 I had a visit the MD this month. He is generally pleased with my progress. Since I am still losing, I must continue to see him. I have an appointment with him for October. His office staff was polite and friendly. October 2001 I have visited the surgeon for the last time. My weight is stable, I am eating well and exercising regularly. He is pleased with my progress, and so am I. All things considered, this has been a good experience with this physician.

My impression of Dr.Harberg, is that he is kind of a straight foward person he does not sugar coat anything he lets you know straight out what to except. And he was right!! His staff is very very very friendly!
If he is the Dr. you have chosen, just don't take anything personally, he just wants to make sure you know what your getting yourself into.

My first impression of Dr. Harberg was wonderful. I was very impressed over his professionalizium and his willing ness to answer all my questions open and honestly. His office staff was wonderful and very helpful in easing my insurance worries. Dr. Harberg made if perfically clear about what you had to do after the surgery to achieve your weight lose goals. Dr. Harberg also imformed me of all the risks of this surgery and made sure that I was right for this surgery or I do believe he would never have gone any further with the consentation. If I had to rate Dr. Harberg and his wonderful staff I would hands down give them all a 10. Dr. Harberg has the most wonderful sence of humor and makes you feel very much at ease when you talk to him. I have total confidence in him as my surgon.

I have only the kindness of words for Dr. Beryl L. Harberg. He's Great! and straight to the point, he tells you just like it is.
My first office visit was june 4, 2001, his staff was very professional.
I heard of him from another patient from the Port Arthur Texas area, I witness her results
and was very pleased with her and several other ladies outcome. He was very highly recommended for his excellent and god gifted tallented surgery skills.
My Surgery was on August 13, 2001 and After three days I was released to go home. Iam following his instrustions accordingly and so far things are going good.
My overall rating of Dr. H....He get's a (A+) I liked his sense of humor, I thought he was funny, because he knowns how and when to use it.

My first impression of Dr. Harberg was that he is a no nonsense kind of man. He will not let you BS him. He will tell you like it is no if's,and's or but's. While I appreciate his frankness, I do not appreciate tactlessness. My impression of him has not changed after more than one visit. As far as his skills are concerned...he has performed many of these surgeries (well over 2000 ) and I trust his abilities. I personally know 3 people who have gone through him and they are doing well. The staff seem very helpful, They take care of everything for you. The thing I like the least is that at times he is condescending and that simply does not mesh well with my personality. He stresses the importance of following his post-op maintanence. He addressed the risks in a point blank matter. He told me how I will be miserable if I did not stick to the strict nutritional and eating habit advice HE has provided. He also said If I had any doubt NOT to go through with it until I was ready if ever. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate him an 8 only because he can be a bit rough around the edges. other than that a 10. I will keep you posted. Surgical Competence is definately Dr. Harberg's strong suit.
