At first I thought he was kinda crusty. Really, he's just very dry, funny but dry. His staff is wonderful. The only thing I'd change about him is that he had something new to say other than on his video. Well, the video I'd work on,too. With all the new technology you think they'd have something better than a talking head and a chart on that tape.

Other than that, I wouldn't change him. He was dead on serious and answered all my questions. He's very much to the point and not out to win a popularity contest.

Overall, I'd rate him and his staff an 8+ on first impressions. From everything I heard from everyone else, I'd rate him a 10 on the surgery. I feel very confident.

Dr Harberg gets straight to the point. He shows you a very informative video then he verbally goes over it all again and you had better be sure you want to go through with it. If you seem unsure he does not move forward til you are or he will tell you to get back with him. The office staff is great they handled Aetna wonderfully. To my understanding there is not really an aftercare program if you need him he will be there. He explained the risks over and over in detail and answered all my questions.I rate Dr Harberg and Co. "10" He has a dry sense of humor but its good.

I have only had one visit thus far with Dr. Harberg, but it went well. He was very informative and matter of fact. He took an extensive history of my struggle to loose weight. I had felt as if I knew him from all my research on the web. Dr. Harberg's office staff is wonderful. They made me feel welcomed and did all correspondence with the insurance company. Dr. Harberg emphasized aftercare over and over. He explained that is a tool to work with for the rest of my life and how I need to work with it. He expressed many times the importance of a healthy diet and the importance of chewing food until it turns to "mush". He told it how it was and did not sugarcoat it. He did address the risks of surgery as with any surgery.

My first attempt at a surgeon failed, due to Dr Jay now being out of the Aetna network. But I have an appt. 7-30-01 with Dr. Ira Kasper. Wish me luck! Well, 2nd attempt failed due to my company changing insurance coverage right in the big middle of going for my 1st appt. Isn't that the luck? Now I have to wait till after 10-01-01 to even set up an appt. with the new surgeon. God, this is getting to be a nightmare. Maybe this is not meant to be? My 3rd attempt will be with Dr. Beryl Harberg after the insurance squabble is over within Mariner Post Acute Network. But his office staff has been the best in responding to my needs and sending me the data I have asked for. So maybe there is hope after all.

I have had the surgery on Dec. 11th, 2001 and have done very well. Dr. Harberg is a sweet gentle but very knowledgable physican. He is one I would refer anyone too for bariatric surgery. I have a had a few set backs, but none that were not managed. He is honest and truthful with you, which is what I value above all else. Can be sort of gruff with you on the first meeting, until you realize how to take him.

My return visits to Dr Harberg's office have been great. He is full of encouragement and will offer you any help possible. Even will return your phone call on a weekend when you are having problems. I FIRMLY RECOMMEND THIS SURGEON, DR. BERYL HARBERG as a fine surgeon and caring person. I do not have to return for a checkup till 3 months and things are going great. YEAH. I know this site says that 100% positive reviews are suspect, but this is the God honest truth about Dr. Harberg. I would not trust anyone else. And I had alot of health issues going into the surgery. He made me get clearance from my cardiologist and had to go thru a heart cath. to rule out any potential problems during surgery or post op. As long as I follow the diet, and the meal size rules, things are fine.

I was not sure how to take him but as we continued i relaxed a little more and that helped. He's a no nonsense kind of doctor that doesn't want you in there wasting his time if you are not ready to make a commitment.

Everyone in the office is wonderful.
he is straight to the point with very little humor. There is nothing l didn't like about him because he is very informative.

I liked Dr. Harberg from the first time I saw him. He is very straight forward. He sits and talks with you to make sure you are making the right decision. He is honest about the side effects of the surgeory. On a scale from 1 to 10, Dr. Harberg gets a 10!

Dr. Harberg is an older doctor with a dry sense of humor. He is very knowledgable and a excelent sugereon He is very much straight to the point and is able to answer all questions you might have. The staff is great and very helpful. Between the doctor and staff I feel very prepared for my surgery, thanks to them letting me know what to expect. Overall I am very confident in my choice of doctors. He came with recomendations from two other friends that he was their surgeon,

Dr Harberg's website was really nice and I was hoping that he could help me. I was so sad today when I got an E mail sying that he does not do repairs to an old gastric bypass that has been damaged because of extensive vomitting. I am hoping another Dr will write and be able to help me.

My first impression of Dr. Harberg was that he was all business and that this surgery was not to be taken lightly. He was kind and patient, willing to answer all questions.
His staff is in one word, efficient! The program for the initial visit, interview, video, etc, is done like clockwork, no time is wasted. The staff handled all the insurance inquiries and appeals. I did not have to do anything myself. The risks of surgery are carefully addressed. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the Doctor and his staff a 9 at least, but he is the only surgeon I consulted with for this procedure. In a city is big as Houston, with the medical center and all, he is one of only a few that does weight loss surgery. I was hope to have the surgery without an incision, but this is the only way he does it, but he does is for the benefit of the patient, he says, because he can see what he is doing better, so I do feel better about that. That he is competent is my main criteria. A good bedside manner is great (and he may have one, I dont know yet), but it is more important to me that the suegery go well.

1. He is great. Full of information. Testimonials posted in his office. He has a web site that I would like to see him post his successful pictures on. Office help is very helpful. he shows you a video presentation before a one on one presentation. I would rate him overall as a great surgeon. The other questions are still in process. I havn't had my surgery yet.
