Newton-Wellesly Obesity Associattes was a butcher shop. The doctors were very very friendly, but mine, though friendly, seemed out of it and I felt like I never really had his attention. I know somebody who is going to be done there very soon and when we compared noters I noted that nearly the entire process, particularly the nutrionist, has changed. My nutritionist was a little 90 pound pixie with fake breasts who wouldn't even look at me. They did not teach me how to eat immediatly post-op and the endangered my life. The whole parctice was at that time like a B-movie set. Very amatuerish. I still harbor deep resentment for them.

I absolutely loved my surgeon, he has a great personality and gets right to the point. It's too bad he retired on Aug 31st. If I wasn't his last patient I was darn close. I'm glad I got to do my 1st follow up with him before he left.

'I MET DR. BRUCE THAYER IN THE END OF 2004 AND FROM THE BEGINNING I KNEW HE WAS A KIND MAN AND WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTION I HAD FOR HIM. I HAD MY SURGERY ON 2/7/2005. IN THE BEGINNING I HAD A FEW PROBLEMS AND HE WAS THERE FOR ME THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE THING. HE CAME TO MY HOSPITAL ROOM EVERYDAY MORNING AND EVENING BEFORE HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL TO CHECK UP ON ME AND TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. I ALWAYS HAVE THAT FEELING YOU GET INSIDE WHEN YOU KN0W YOUR DOCTOR REALLY CARES AND IS LOOKING OUT FOR YOU. I WOULD CONVINCE ANYONE LOOKING INTO HAVE THIS SURGERY TO HAVE HIM AS A DOCTOR. NOT ONLY DOES HE CARE FOR ME HAS A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH MY SON WHO IS THERE FOR ME ALL THE TIME. ANY TIME YOU HAVE A PROBLEM YOU CAN ALWAYS CONTACT HIM OR LEAVE HIM A MESSAGE AND HE'LL GET RIGHT BACK TO YOU. SO I WOULD RATE HIM ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10----- 100%. BOTH HIS BEDSIDE MANNER AND HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS GREAT. WELL I COULD GO ON AND ON

I felt very comfortable with him as he is an older surgeon and I'm a bit tired of always going to young doctors. He is a straight-shooter and gets right to the point. He's done a lot of these surgeries and really knows his stuff. He also has a good sense of humor.
The office staff is outstanding; responsive, helpful and caring.
Aftercare is critical and the practice has a very structured program. Groups are available 3 out of 4 weeks each month on a number of levels.
Surgical competence and bedside manner both excellent.
At this time only does open RNY. Others in the practice to laproscopic procedures.

I have met with Dr Thayer 3 times and my overall impression of him is a compassionate individual who takes the time to listen to his patient and treats you like a person and not just another "case". I have the utmost confidence in him and his skills and feel like I will be in good hands for my upcoming surgery.

I was referred to Dr. Thayer through my PCP. The receptionist in his office made mention that she would ONLY choose Dr. Thayer for any surgery she would ever have--I would agree now after working with him.

I completed an online survey and got a call within 2 days. I knew this meant business! I heard only good things about him from other patients when I attended my first group session. The entire staff in the office is super friendly!

All the risks were addressed and explained in detail. One thing I particularly liked, there is always someone on call if you run into a problem even in the middle of the night.

I was impressed with his direct approach and sense of humor. I thought, FINALLY a doctor who doesn't beat around the bush and isn't afraid to tell me I am fat and need help!

I am 100% certain that Dr. Thayer will take the best care of me.

My first impression of Dr. Thayer was that he was a very nice and direct person. Understood my needs and expectations. He answered my questions and put me right at ease. My opinion has not changed except that now that I have been in the office a few times now, I absolutely adore him and his office staff. They are wonderful. They always have a huge bright smile on their faces. Even when you call them on the phone. You can hear the smile in their voices. They have a wonderful program. A program that caters to the whole person. Very informative regarding every aspect of this journey. I can't wait to have my surgery!! Thank you guys for giving me such hope of getting my life back!!!

He's a man of dry humor - you have to appreciate that or you won't be happy. He doesn't always listen closely, but what he misses is usually unimportant - he gets the important material. He treats fat fifty-ish women as if they had a brain, which is a marvelous change from many doctors.

His office staff is dedicated to the practice ... but they are not always singing from the same page of the songbook. E.g., calorie and protein requirenments: you get one message from the nutritionist, another from an RN, etc. Answers are generally in the same county, if not the same ballpark. Patients seem to function well despite this.

I least liked the fact that he is frequently time-stressed, and appointments are often not on time.

Aftercare is structured and strongly emphasized - many group meetings are available.

He noted surgical risks, and the staff noted the risks in the pre-op meetings. He addressed ancillary problems such as gall-bladder issues: does not remove it routinely but if there are indications that there will be future problems, is willing to accede to request to get the thing out of there.

Surgical competence seems top-notch. He didn't spend much time at my bedside, but it must have been enough - I'm fine. He is willing to see me in office when I really feel the need, and his manner there is great.
