The moment I met Dr. Thayer I was a ease. I new then that this would be the man to do my surgery. He has a very pleasant staff and always willing to go above and beyond.I haven't had my surgery yet (Jan 10,2005) but I will fill you in when it's done.

Great surgeon, doctor and all around good guy. The Office help were very efficient and always took time to help out.

Lots of support groups available and your expected to be there.

A+ in my book. The biggest problem is hse is so busy, I didnt get a cahnce to talk with him much in the hospital.

Sense of humor and very secure in his abilities. My impression didn't change. He has just a slight arrogance about his confidence...and I like that in a doctor..because I believe someone wouldn't be that way if they were not good at what they do. Office staff very friendly and understanding. Dr. Thayer is very blunt with his patients...sometimes that can make one feel a little uneasy. I don't really know anymore that what I have said. I certainly will know more after my surgery. Aftercare is one of the most important parts of healing properly....and to do exactly as we have been told. The doctor's staff will be available to all patients 24/7, and for the rest of our lives he and his staff will encourage one to come in on a regular basis to be checked and for support. He told us about the risk of the staples coming out and the complications that go along with that. He also said that after 3 days post-op. one would be out of the woods, so to speak. That one should follow their diet to the letter and we will be just fine. That they are at the hospital 24/7 (at least one of his staff) in case they are needed and will check in with the patient on a regular basis while in the hospital. That if something went wrong they would know it right away and take care of it. I think a doctor should have both, but if I had to choose one, it would be the competence of the surgeon. These are just impressions from my experience thus far in my journey to having the old Nancy back!

Dr. Thayer is energetic, fast talking and has a very dry sense of humor.

His office staff was helpful and caring.

His sense of humor took some getting used to. Also, I had to make sure I had a list of questions because he talks fast and moves quickly.

However, I enjoyed his style and sense of humor. He made me feel reassured. When I had a problem with a test and surgery was threatened, he took care of the problem and we avoided a delay.

I see Dr. Thayer quite often although, now that I'm a year and a half out, I see him less often. They have a wonderful support network and regularly scheduled support meetings that I found helpful.

He is a wonderfully skilled surgeon. His bedside manner was great, his surgical competence was wonderful and the aftercare I received was terrific. Highly recommend him.

Dr. Thayer is a great man and he does phenomenal work. I did have a slight altercation with his staff over the hospital's Patient's Bill of Rights. Looking back, I attribute this to my own nervousness about my pending surgery. Rest assured, that when I spoke with Dr. Thayer about it, my mind was put at ease.
He and his staff absolutely stress aftercare and even hold monthly support group meetings at the hospital. Unfortunately, I have had a turbulent past few years and have not been very good about following up. I go to my PCP's office for bloodwork monitoring, but that has been the extent of it. Please do better with your aftercare than I have.
Overall, I would definetly recommend Dr. Thayer to anyone considering Bariatric Surgery. His program is excellent and you may benefit by atleast making an appointment to speak with him and his staff.

My first impression has remained my current impression. I found Dr. Thayer to be a professional, knowledgeable, caring, open and honest throughout this whole process from pre-op to the present. He is very caring and concerned about his patients. He took the time to talk in great detail with my husband as well as myself and answer any questions we had.

His office staff has been very friendly and helpful.

If you are considering him as your surgeon for gastirc by pass surgery, be prepared for him to be very upfront about his expectations. He will be as quick to give you words of praise and encouragement as he is to point out when you might go astray and not follow instructions. He was always available if I had a problem or a question that needed his attention. However, for the most part I was able to get the answers I needed from one of the office nurses.

I left my initial appointment with no doubt that there are risks with this surgery. He went over the surgery and risks in great detail. He deals with the patient holistically, not just physically ,to make sure that a person is psychologically as well as physically a good candidate for this procedure.

All in all, my experience with Dr. Thayer and his staff has been and continues to be a very good one. I found him competent as a surgeon and a physician with a good bedside manner.

This guy is no nonsense and sometimes a little overbearing (I gained two pounds before my period and he had me lose 5 over thanksgiving week- but i lost 8!)
He always addressed my concerns- especially when the media was focusing on a few poor souls who had died in surgery (right before my date). He took all my phone calls when I got nervous. But he has a sense of humor that you sometimes do not know how to take.
His staff is very accomodating and helpful.
I would recomend him and this staff to others.

My first impression of Doctor Thayer was of a humorous person, who really understood the pain and dead end feeling of years of dieting and failure brings. Over time this impression continued and grew. His staff was so supportive, and was willing to answer any questions or conserns i had. The one thing i didn't like about Dr. Thayer was, he asked what was my biggest problem when it came to food. I know it is "SUGAR". He said i had to get off of it. I said" if i could get off of it, do you think i would be standing in your office talking about Gastric surgery? What you should know about him, is that he fully understands obesity. not because he has been there (which is highly unlikely if you have never been there) I truly think he understands it because he takes the time to listen to his patience and to hear their pain and their frustration. when i explained my "dieting" history, he said , well, we are going to put a stop to that madness>All the risks of surgery were fully explained through a video and group meetings. I don;t know of too many other groups that have such an extensive support system.I have a very sharp sense of humore, and he fell right into it with great gustow.

Dr. Thayer is great. The first time I went to see him for this he looked at me sitting in the waiting room and remembered me, he had taken out my Gall Bladder 5 years earlier. He is great.
His staff are all great. They all understand what we as heavy persons are going through.
Aftercare and pre-care are very structured. Not hard to follow, but very structured.
He explained everything, both the positive's and negative's of this surgery.
I would rate him a 10 out of 10. He is really great. I highly recommend him.
I really have nothing negative to say, really.
Maybe the only thing would be the wait time in his office can be a bit long sometimes but not unreasonable. (There, something negative)

Dr. Thayer is amazing! Words cannot express the gratitude I have for his care, compassion, and skill. He is very matter-of-fact and to the point, and I love that. He is tough and told me that if I gained any weight before surgery he would cancel the surgery. Whether or not he would have, it movitated me to get into the mind set that I will have to be in for the rest of my life. I would recommend Dr. Thayer to anyone in the Boston area looking to have this amazing surgery!
