I had read that he took a back seat in the conference. This was true. Shawna ,his PA AND ASSISTANT did the presentation and anwered questions. Then Dr.Morton shyly came to the front of the group. I instantly liked him . The biggest reason was his attire. He had just come from surgery and had left on his surgical gear. A man who takes his work seriously. He appeared, calm,
He was quiet spoken and answered all questions .He made eye contact with all who spoke to him. I going back to set my surgery date and meet with his staff within the next 10 days. I can't wait!!
When I left this conference, not only did I KNOW that this was for me ,my answer, but I explained the procedure to all who would listen. The people from my work all knew that I was going, so all had to hear about it when I returned.
More later................ T This is later!! My surgery is Feb.5,2004!!Ihave met with Shawna amd Dr. Morton. Shawna was amazingly thorough. She explained everything. She amazes me,that smart.that nice, she is a sweetie. Dr. Morton is wonderful!! It's nice to meet someone else who knows exactly why the Lord put them on this earth!!!!! At the hospital. everytime his name is mentioned or read on the chart, all you hear is what a great Dr. he is. They always mention that is not a finer person professionally nor personally. All at that hospital sing his praises. Dr. Morton ,as wellas Shawna, stressed my risks as well as what to expect before surgery, during the surgery and after surgery. This website had prepared me with so much helpful info about my surgery, that I think Shawna and Dr. Morton were surprised. so onward I go to surgery.

He seemed very quiet, sincere.
I have only met with him once. His assistant, Shawanna has seen me all but that once.
The staff seemed very nice.
The fact that I never get to see the Dr. bothers me.
The after care has not had any great emphasis with me. Nothing has been mentioned to me personally but I did get a letter in the mail about the previous months support meeting. However I have been told nothing.
I did not know what to expect when I went in for the first adjustment and it showed. I did not get a good adjustment, so I had to return for a 2nd adjustment that I was charged extra for. The second adjustment was not much better that the 1st so i must make another appointment for a 3rd. The assistant told me that the average is 2 or 3 adjustments.
The 1 time that I did Meet with the Dr. he seemed very nice, and answered all of my questions. He took his time and talked with me about the surgery and what to expect from surgery and post op with the lap band.
I think both are very important, however I have still not seen the Dr. since before the surgery. I have not much to say one way or the other. But the Dr does a great with the incisions! they are fadding and very nicely.

The first thing I noticed was Dr. Mortons quietness and nice smile. I did notice how he and his assistant complimented one another quite nicely. Both were informative and seemed honest/sincere.
The office staff is very nice whether it's been on the phone or in person.
My surgery is set for 6/09 so I will post more after the pre-op meeting.

I am now post surgery and at this point, I KNOW what a grand surgeon I picked! He has been right on top with explanations, what to expect, his surgical skills etc. I could not have chosen a better surgeon to suit my needs. He has a nice sence of humor(bedside manner) which is mandatory for me.
He is a pretty straight shooter and will go over all the highs and lows of the surgery and the band. He does talk about the risks of the surgery which we all need to know and keep in mind.
His office staff is always courteous and helpful. Anytime I've called and they had to return a call, it was returned that day and in a timely manner. Exactly what one needs when going through something so life changing. They are very accomodating as well. I live out of state and they are able to coordinate ver well...ex: post op appt. w/day of support group so I can attend:-)
They do have a support group for Dr. M's patients though I have not been to it yet.
It's coming up on the 30th and there is a speaker who is going to talk about emotional eating(I believe) and also will have items to try..protein shakes etc.
I would rate them ****'s. So far, ya can't do better than that!
This has been my experience and I'm proud to say THANK YOU!

I choose Dr. Charles Moton, because he is the only surgeon in Nashville that is performing the LapBand procedure. My first impression was not a "one on one" impression. I actually met him for the first time during a seminar in April. He was a very gentle, quite, man. It did not appear that public speaking was his thing.
His PA did most of the presentation. One thing that I can say for sure is that they both compliment each other.
I got the feeling that Dr. Morton, really wants to help people. He stressed the importance that the surgery is just a tool. You have to work with it. I believe he said it best when he stated: "If you sit around all day and eat cookies, then you can not expect this to be successful." Something like that.
But if you are in Nashville and are looking for an alternative to the Gastric Bypass, Dr. Morton is your man!!!!!
I am scheduled for my first consultation in May, so I will post more then.

Doctor Morton came across as very caring and considerate and he has continued to be. He said if I had any problems post-op to call 24 hours a day.
He is a well respected vascular surgeon who liked the alternative he saw to help others lose weight with a less invasive procedure. He had to apply for training with the adjustible lap band and was chosen among a great many doctors to train.
The office staff was very nice. His assistant Shawna is very kind and informed. She is also a dietician and helps with the aftercare.
Dr. Morton is more of a quiet, gentle doctor then some I have met. He explained the risks which is a very small percentage and similar to any surgery risks, such as having your tonsils taken out. I had a BMI of about 48 and he had no problems doing the surgery lap-in 1 hr. 15 minutes. I couldn't call him an old pro at the surgery because as of 11/02 he has done about 20 operations at the hospital.
I would rate Dr. Morton, Shawna, and Southern Hill Medical Center, all as 10+. (I also loved the free valet service they have when you have an appointment.) I have had a great experience.
