Donald Scholten Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

My first call to Dr. Scholtens office is really what swayed my opinion of him immediately. I did not speak to him personally, but was not immediately asked what my insurance before anyone would speak with me.
I was sent out a large manual describing the details of the journey I was about to embark on and I scheduled myself for orientation.
The surgeon himself was very direct and hoenst about what was to occur with surgery. There was no ifs, ands, or buts about what my life was going to be like after surgery. He was compassionate, but at the the same time clearly concerned with making sure that I was confortable with the change that was going to have to take place. I knew the surgeon was competant. I had met many competant surgeons in my research, but this office was the first that provided the whole package from beginning to end. I have never regretted my decision to choose him and he is definitley worth the wait to see him. Overall I would give their program and his cababilities an ten out of ten. There wasn't anything that I would have changed.

My first impression of Dr. Scholten was that he cares very much about his patients as people and wants to help all those who are committed to this surgery. He has a very structured program prior to surgery, which is geared to make sure the individual is prepared mentally and physically for this life-altering surgery. I have full confidence in his surgical expertise.

Dr. Scholten is a genious. His whole program is what makes this surgery work. Yes, it's a little more conservative than some of the other programs you may read about, but that is why his patients are so successful. He has a very effective before and aftercare program, and the support groups are wonderful. I would do this again in a heartbeat.

My first impression of Dr. Scholten was he was a very professional, yet very kind doctor. He was thorough about the surgery and made sure my questions were answered so that I could understand. He did not sugar coat anything about the surgery and made sure you fully understood the risks about the surgery. I liked him from my very first visit and he made me feel comfortable and at ease. The staff were also professional and helpful. Whenever I called his office, they were prompt at returning my calls and very understanding with my nervousness. Dr. Scholten requires that you attend a support group "Circle of Friends" BEFORE you can even be scheduled for surgery. It is one of his many requirements prior to surgery. I would rate Dr. Scholten as a PERFECT 10 to me and I feel that he has saved my life and I will forever be grateful to him. I would highly recommend Dr. Scholten to anyone on this website and would love to answer any questions anyone might have in greater detail.
I do not have anything negative to say about my experience with Dr. Scholten, with his staff or my hospital stay.

Dr. Scholten appears to be a very kind and caring individual. He takes time to answer all your questions and didn't seem to be in a hurry at all.
Office staff is very helpful. They really know their stuff.
Aftercare is heavily emphasized, including attendance at a monthly support group.
Dr. very carefully explained the risks of surgery, but his overall confidence diminished any fears I might have had.
Not having had my surgery yet, I hesitate to rate Dr. Scholten on just my initial meeting with him.
Okay, I've had my surgery now. I was initially scheduled for 12-9-02 and my surgery date was bumped up to 11-25-02. Dr. Scholten was wonderful! Both his surgical competence and his bedside manner are great.

very soft spoken and gentle.my impression did not change. Very exact and through knows about almost all insurances and all process steps. I can't think of anything that I didn't like about him. Everyone will know how through and determined he is to make all his hard work come out to a perfect outcome. He is very dedicated to what he does and he expects you to be too. There is NO aftercare it is AFTER SURGERY and a new life. His care program last for over a year so I guess you could say that is is VERY structured. There are always risks involved with surgery by his staff was very up front about all of this including the 3 deaths that they have had. My rating of him and his staff isright up there with perfection and he still hasn[t fell of the pedistal yet.
