Dr. Teng is wonderful. He is very respected in the medical community. My OB\GYN suggested I go to Dr.Teng rather than any other surgeon. He is very caring and his staff is good too. I had confidence in him more than I had in other surgeons that I saw. When I had a question after surgery and it was after hours he called me right back and was very nice. He is more strict than some surgeons but I think that's a good thing since the surgery is nothing to mess around with.

I had my surgery on September 22, 2006. I made a life change in my eating habits a yr. prior so it would not be a great change for me. But I thought it would help me in doing that and it didn't I did not realize until after my surgery how foods are \" mental \" in the way we want the food not need it. Well I am on my way to a new life and I am happy! I have lost 65 lbs. since September and I feel great! Dr. Teng is the best! although I am having trouble with eating certain things as long as you stay on the plan given to you for the time period you are out of your surgery you will be fine and then you will see results and be healthy as well. So many diets come and go and this is not a diet it is a life change and not reversable so be sure be very sure do all the checking on the different ways to be done before you go through it go to the support meetings and ask all the questions you can. The other patients are very happy to answer them. Dr. Teng's staff is WONDERFUL! they really care about you and help you in any way possible. Good luck to anyone reading this and I hope if you choose this you will go through Dr. Francis Teng!

I just had the lapband surgery March 31, 2006 I have lost a total of 15 pds. in almost 2 weeks. I had the finest care, both before and after my surgery. I went home the next day. Very easy and wished I could have done it sooner. Dr. Teng is awesome and I would recommend him to everyone.
Super on information, and support groups before and after, follow though and his office is outstanding with insurance company follow up.
My daughter is a nurse at the hospital where I had my surgery and all of the staff and nurses know him to be tops and excellent in his surgery and after care too.
I am now cleared for swimming. I have healed perfectly. You can hardly see some of the laproscopic incision sites today.
Very little pain in the first three days. Now none!!!
For anyone who has had a problem in their life, as I have losing weight, especially with a slow metabolism from birth and into a very low thyroid function and am on 90 mgs of it now, you know what I mean. This is the only way to go. Believe me.

I had my surgery with Dr. Francis W. Teng on 3/17/05. I found him to be absolutely wonderful. He has answered each of my questions fully and respectivley. I enjoy his honest, sometimes humerous bedside manner. I chose Dr. Teng after researching many local surgeons. I had asked several people in the medical field and all highly reccommended Dr. Teng. My primary care physician actually said he would prefer Dr. Teng over any other surgeon to operate on his own child! That spoke volumes. Dr. Teng was refered to me by a nurse who had her WLS by him. I have had no problems with his staff and I found Tina to be a pleasure to deal with. I have only had to call Dr. Teng once, after hours on a Sunday. I called his office and I had a call back with in 10 minutes by Dr. Teng...not a nurse, but he, himself, called me back. Dr. Teng stongly emphasizes after care. I enjoy going to the support meetings. They are fun, informative, and I am meeting new people going through the same things as I am. Dr. Teng went over the risks of surgery, and even on the morning of surgery, being wheeled into the surgery room, he asked, "are you sure you want to go through this? You know the risks, Melody." I would highly reccommend him, only if you want the best.

I went to a seminar and he spoke about the surgery. I found it was difficult to understand his speech. I felt that he was more compassionate than another doctor whose seminar I had gone to. But I feel that there were a lot of questions that I felt were not covered in the seminar.I felt that he does not accept questions that might suggest he is not clearly expressing himself to others. He is a proud man and very confident but comes across rather intimidating at times.
My impression of him has fluctuated over time. I went to a consultation with him. I had filled out paperwork regarding my history etc. When I went in I felt I wanted to have the Lap Band procedure but He and his staff told me that that procedure was rarely covered by insurance. I still wanted to see if it would be covered by my insurance company but did not feel much support from him or his staff to see if insurance would cover it. I learned during the process that he and his staff have dealt so much with the insurance companies that they know how they are going to respond and I think the staff does not communicate well with the patient concerning this situation or others. They want you to follow their advice and make it known that they feel that way. He does not like to be questioned regarding his ideas or reasons for doing things.
I was going to have my surgery in November but had to reschedule it due to my husband losing his job. I found out that I could use the Cobra program and still be covered the same for the surgery so I have rescheduled the surgery for February 3rd. I feel like there are a lot of unanswered questions about my individual case but my husband and I have an appointment to sign papers and go over the details of everything(I hope) a few days before they surgery.
His office staff is difficult to deal with on the level of communication. I asked about his creditentials when I first went to him and was not given very specific details. I personally think that information should be in the packet of information that is given to you when you go the seminar.
I mentioned the amount of pain medication I was taking for chronic pain to him and his staff because I was concerned how this might affect my surgery. I feel as if this problem was not seriously considered until after surgery when I was having difficulty with the administration of pain meds for the effects of the surgery. Dr. Teng did not seem to be aware that I was on such a high dosage of pain meds and He put me on an entirely different medication for pain. I felt that I had made it clear to him and his staff that I was concerned about the issue but this one of those situations that I feel they overlooked and I experienced more pain and discomfort due to that.
He emphasizes after care very strongly. In fact I have been told that if you follow his instructions to the letter concerning diet and the time frame for drinking clear liquids to when to eat pureed foods you can avoid complications almost totally. He has his aftercare program printed up and you receive that when you go in to see him.
He addresses the risk of surgery in a very straight forward manner. He gives you the statistics and then emphasizes the instructions he gives you and following them.
I don't know yet about rating him over all yet since he hasn't performed surgery yet.
I believe he did a fine job of performing the surgery but I find that I am intimidated by his manner. I find it is difficult to tell him something he may not want to hear and yet I feel I must be able to speak the truth to him. His staff is similar in their approach. Especially Tina, his sister. I know on at least one occasion that when speaking to her about the deposit that I put down for the surgery she hedged or was somewhat deceptive about the way the deposit was handled and she told me something different then she told my husband who had also called on my behalf regarding the deposit issue. This has lessened my feeling of trust in Dr Teng's office.
Once again I want you to know that he is an excellant surgeon and did a great job on me a difficult patient due to an enlarged liver and other circumstances, But I do feel that there is always room for improvement and the improvement needed in his practice is in the area of communicating with the patient and being consistant in the information provided the patient. Respect of his patients and their families is of upmost importance in forming a relationship of trust and open communication.

Dr Teng's meetings were very informative and after surgery he has a great support group to help you in every way. He tries to do your surgery with another patient at the same time so you have a "buddy" to recover with. I was his #6 surgery so he knows me by name, and I was confident with his new skills at the time because I knew he would be very cautious doing the surgery.
I grew very fond of him and his bedside manner. He was right there with me 2 days after I went home from the hospital when I had a dumping affect after using Liquid Tylenol. His staff was and is very friendly and kind. There isn't anything that I don't like about him. He is very caring about his patients and wants them to be successful in their weight loss. He has a support group once a month and almost always attends with us. He strongly promotes an aftercare program.
He completely covers the risks of surgery and brings the statistics up frequently in his discussions. He is a very skilled surgeon and a very kind and loving person.

Dr Teng is wonderful!
He has a very gentle, kind bedside manner.
He is a very careful and meticulous surgeon.
(my friends who work in the OR call him very obsessive and meticulous and conservative, taking time to be sure everything is done to perfection!)
I appreciate him more as time goes by.
He holds a monthly support group that he personally attends. It is open to any WLS patients or investigators, so those who had surgery out of town can come to a support group locally...I think this is kind of him, as other surgeons in town do not allow "outsiders".
His aftercare program is close followup for two years, then at least every 6-12 months thereafter.
Worst things about him?
He's addicted to Dr Pepper...which I am NOT supposed to drink postop.
He's only about 5'4" and 180...so I felt like a giant around him at 5'7" and 360! LOL!
Office staff are so excited about my success... sort of like second family.
Future patients should know that he is not interested in doing surgery for folks who think WLS is a "quick fix", only for patients who view WLS as a tool for overall life-changing events of weight loss, increased exercise, and eating healthy.
He is the only one I can strongly recommend in town, as a nurse of 30 years. I can tell you why, if you contact me personally...but I will not "flame" the other guys in this posting.
