Hosein Yasrebi Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

He appeared to be stern. Very serious and no sence of humor. He didn't make me feel inferior or bad because I am obese, just very serious. When I went back for my second visit he was very up beat and praised me for my weight loss, 9lbs in one month. His staff is great. They are friendly and helpful. He has no sence of humor. And he is skinny, lol. I don't know about after care yet. He explained the risks and answered all my questions. I had a long list.I would rate him as very professional and competent. Competence is far more important to me than bed side manner. I have plenty of friends so I don't expect him to be my best buddy. I just want him to do what he knows best. Some doctors make an obese person feel like it is our fault we have health problems and shouldn't bother them until we lose weight. Some even make you feel dirty or repulsive. I never got that vibe from dr. Sooriash.rnI now have a new surgeon to add. Dr Yasrebi. I had to have a revision and Dr. Sooriash is no longer in the area. rnDr Yasrebi was my first choice because he did my gall bladder and a tummy tuck over 20 years ago. I couldn't use him for the original WLS because Aetna didn't cover him at the time.rnHe is simply the greatest. He called every night for 2 weeks after my surgery. He treats each patient like they are his main priority and follows up with you for the rest of your life.

I'd heard nothing but good things about Dr. Yasrebi from women in my office who'd already been his patients. I went to his informational seminar the first Tuesday of October 2007. He was very thorough and took plenty of time to explain the procedure and answer questions. One of the best things was how he had previous patients speak about their experiences - they were candid and honest about the whole process and very friendly.rnrnI was able to get in to see him immediately after the meeting (though I chose to wait 3 weeks for financial reasons). He took two hours to talk to me and go over every little thing in my medical history, even emotional well-being. He is funny and warm, but you KNOW he doesn't play around. Everything he does is designed to promote your success as a patient.rnrnHe asks you to lose 10% of your weight prior to surgery, and follow his diet plan to prove your commitment to WLS. (If you're close to 40 BMI, you may be asked to lose less. I was) You are used to walking and breathing by the time three weeks has passed, and it makes recovery much faster and easier (I've been told this by MANY previous patients).rnrnOnce you have surgery, Dr. Y sits in the recovery room until you wake up, and he walks with you around the hospital several times. He gives his home, cell, and pager numbers to all patients so they can reach HIM (and not an answering service) if they need to. I don't think you could ask for anything better. You follow up with him (not a nurse).rnrnOverall, I would rate him a 10. I'm serious! He has a good bedside manner and he's very competent (he's been doing this 27 years, 1300 surgeries, this is his specialty, and he hasn't lost a single patient). I have racked my brain to think of a negative point and if I HAD to say anything, it's that his strict regimen is not for everyone. You MUST be committed because he doesn't play around. If you are looking into this surgery, I highly recommend Dr Y over some of the other local docs. Even if you have to travel, Dr. Y is worth it!

My first impression of Dr. Yasrebi was he was very nice and wanted to know all about the patient. He first concern is about the patient throughout the entire process. It is a simple but strict pre-op program that only patients who are determined about the WLS can achieve. I have the surgery on Aug. 7, 2007, and Dr. Yasrebi was there with me when I woke upe, for a few walks in the hosiptal and has called me everyday since I returned home. YES, the doctor not his nurse, assitant, etc. I would recommend him to people seeking the surgery. He only has one office but he is that good enough to travel millions of mile for.

I chose Dr. Yasrebi because of his record. He has done over 1200 surgeries and never lost one patient. He has not had a patient even come close. That was very important to me. I checked out his medical license with the state of Florida and Dr. Yasrebi has no reports of any patient filing a claim with the medical board or any medical law suits. He had not one infraction. I checked out the other surgeon in Jacksonville that my insurance wanted me to use and his record was not clean. Nor had he done no where near the amount of surgeries. Dr Yasrebi is very stern. He doesn't play games. He expects you to do as you are told. He chooses who he wants to operate on. He spends so much time with you. On my first visit consultation he spent 2 hours with me examining me and talking to me and getting my history. I didn't have this done by a nurse. I visit him about every 3 weeks and he takes time to check me over, talk with me, go over my eating journal, and my breathing machine. I am very impressed that he doesn't rush into surgery. He makes you lose 10% of your weight before he will operate. He also runs a battry of tests and sends you to a psychiarist (spelling) to make sure you are mentally stable. Even though he is not covered by my insurance, I feel paying the $8000 out of packet is worth the quality of care I am receiving. rnI had the surgery on 1-20-05. Dr. Yasrebi was wonderful. He spent about 25 hours with me before I had surgery. He stayed with me until I was awake and made sure I was OK. He came back to see me the day of my surgery at 7PM and stayed with me and walked with me for an hour. He came back the next morning at 8AM to walk with me and show me how to use my feeding tube for another hour. Then he released me to go home. Dr. Yasrebi's patients only stay one night in the hospital. He makes sure you are so healthy before surgery that you recover so fast. The first day I was sore and some pain, the second day was worse and the third day was bad too. Just felt like I had been kicked in the chest. By the forth day I was much better. Today is the fifth day and I am so much better.Dr. Yasrebi calls you 2 times a day for the first 10 days to check on you. He calls you from his home. You have his home and cell number too. I would recommend Dr. Yasrebi to anyone. I did my homework to find the best surgeon in North Florida and according the the DBPR he is the best. His medical record for the past 25 years in clean as whistle. That is something you don't see with weight loss surgions. He has done almost 1200 and never lost one person. I go back tomorrow for my 1 week checkup. I will follow up with him every month for one year.rn2-22-05rnWent back for my one month follow up and I was down to 209. Dr. says I am right on track. I can say enough good things about Dr. Yasrebi. rn7-19-07rnWow has time flown by. I still see Dr Yasrebi once a month and I am still losing. He is the best surgeon. I advise people to please do their homework on Doctors before having the surgery. Most people just want a quick fix and will let anyone cut on them. Research your surgeon. Ask them questions. If they can't answer your questions, find another Doctor. I am down to 155 now and I am shooting for 145-149.

Still follow up often with Dr. Yasrebi, if you don't he will call you and check on you himself. Still keeping my weigh off because of his long care follow up. 6.5 years and would do it again tommorrow.

All of the other reviews I read of Dr. Yasrebi are dead on the money! He's been performing bariatric surgery for 27 years and never lost a patient. His practice is like no other doctor I've ever heard of before. The day of surgery you're his only patient. He waits with you until you wake up and calls you personally for the first 10 days post-op. Dr. Yasrebi requires a lot of his patients, whether you're self pay or using insurance. Every patient must complete a pre-op diet in order to shrink the liver. I believe he usually asks that the patient lose 10% of their body weight. ****Here's the part that I didn't read in other reviews of Dr. Yasrebi.**** Dr. Yasrebi makes sure you understand ALL of the risks: emotional and physiological. I was really impressed that he took another 2 hours out of his work day to host what he calls \"the consent meeting.\" He goes over everything, even increased divorce rates in bariatric patients. There is no stone left unturned. I wish that every bariatric surgeon talked about the emotional risks with WLS. rnrnOverall, Dr. Yasrebi gets an A+! He's been professional and compassionate everytime I've seen him. I have full confidence in him.

My first impression of Dr.Y was just sheer amazement of his compassion for you. I called his office and left a message and he called me from his cell from that evening to answer any of my questions. He so very nice and funny. His staff is knowlegble and courteous. I think he is awesome so far I have no complaints. He stressing the before care just as much as the after care. Dr.Y stays with you in the room until you recovery. He walks with you around the hospital not a nurse. He calls you every eveing for the first 2 weeks. Thats a man who cares!

I had an advantage with Dr Yasrebi because both my parents have had surgery that he performed on them 8 yrs ago so i already knew alot about him but i still wanted to meet him for my own self to see what he was all about cause i had heard so many great things about him. When i went in for my very first meeting with him he sat down with me for 2 hrs and asked me questions all about me and told me some things about himself now i dont know about you but i have NEVER been to a Dr who has sat down with me and cared about me and my life and looked me in my face when talking to me so i was very impressed.Ihave seen him 6 times so far and each time i see him he sits and talks to me after he weighs me and gives me my vit b-12 shot and takes my BP. He also just sat down with my Mom and i and 6 other ppl to go over the risks involved with the gastric bypass and then tested every one of us to mk sure we were all paying attention. He is however strict about you following your diet and if you dont make a strong effort to lose 10% of your body weight he will not do surgery on you! I feel totally and completly safe with him and im very much looking forward to taking this journey with him!

Dr. Yasrebi performed my surgery 1/25/2001 and I am still happy with my surgery. I was originally 320 pounds and I am now 155 and steady at 155 since 13 months after my surgery. I miss seeing Dr. Yasrebi now that I live accross the country in Seattle. I was always happy with Dr. Yasrebi and I wouldn't change one thing. If I still lived in Florida then I would refer everyone to Dr. Yasrebi. I give him an A+
