I really admired my surgeon. I think he was one of the best surgeons I have ever worked with. I was an ICU nurse at the time of my surgery, and he was doing 6 Lap bypasses a week and I never received any of his patients in my ICU during a 2 year time period. He was the man I wanted to know more about. I then went to a new patient seminar and heard him speak. I was sold on the surgery and on the surgeon. I then had to sell my husband on the man. My husband is a federal investigator and interigated the man. Once we were finished with the first visit, my husband turned to me and said \"if you want to have the surgery, then he is the only one that should do it.\" I had my surgery 5 1/2 years ago and lost 135 pounds and have maintained that weight loss without the first complication. rnI think he is the best.rnrnHe truly saved my life. I know that he left Va Beach to go to Arizona. I hope he is still doing the surgery.rnrnHe was not a conversationalist, but he's the best surgeon. I didn't need him to be my friend or buddy, I needed him to be the best surgeon and do what he did, and that was to give me the tool to be a successful weight loss survivor. My surgical date was August 22, 2002.

I absolutely LOVED Dr. Doxey and his staff. He was very pleasant, informative and seemed to truley care about me and my family. I could call with any problem or concern and was promptly helped and was never made to feel I was bothering them. I was really sorry to see him leave the area.

Soft spoken, caring professional.
Inspired confidence in the procedure.
My impression over time prior to surgery did not wane. Excellent well trained staff. Detailed info given about what to expect during and after surgery. Very structured aftercare program. Risks were clearly addressed without fear. I believe Dr. Doxey is one of the very best Lap RNY Bariatric surgeons in the country. I credit him with saving my life - I have lost 130 lbs. and have full health and happiness restored. Since performing my procedure in Virginia Beach, he has moved to Scottsdale AZ. I know he will be greatly missed on the East Coast.

My first impression was that he knew his work but was a little shy (a man of little words). I've only seen him 3 times, once for my pre-surgery consultation, then at the surgery day and then again post-surgery were he was little more relax and friendly.

After these consultation I only had visit with the RN (Randy) once a month, he is very personnable and always attends the support meetings.

The only thing I would like from my surgeon, is that he should be able to "connect" a little more with the patient at first, but he is very skilled and this compensate for his lack of inter-personnal skills.

I received a letter, stating that he returned to general surgery and is not part of the Scottsdale Bariatric Center anymore, but the Bariatric center does offer excellent aftercare program such as monthly support groups, all time access to nutritionists and a psychologists.

I would rate his surgical skills as excellent, because this is such a scary process I think surgical competence is extremely important, but the surgeon should also be supportive of the procedure (that he believes it or not).

Dr. Doxey has been very informative. I have had an opportunity to talk to 3 patients that
went under gastric bypass surgery with him. They have all done very well. I am looking forward to the life change. Dr. Doxeys office is always very busy. But they really seam to have there stuff together. I am very impressed.

3-13-03 _ I was very worried being a single parent the morning of surgery. My son 13 yrs old was very scared of the surgery (just because) I have been the only parent on a full time basis his entire life. He had made hisself very ill the entire week before my surgery. This really started playing on my emotions.

The morning of I went back for surgery just a bit more concerned than normal. I told the nurses I wanted to talk to Dr. Doxey before I Got undressed. I knew this was my chance at a new life. But my children and every one else I love has always been put before my own needs.

After seeing Dr Doxey and him one more time assuring me that their were some minimal risk and what they were. I moved forward with my surgery.

Dr Doxey even up to that moment assured me if this was no the right time for me he would just reschedule my date. He is a GREAT DOCTOR and I really appreciate the time that he took with me.

Dr. Bradford Doxey was my pre-op and op surgeon. When I first met him I was impressed. He spent a great deal of time with me and kept me informed. I was somewhat dissapointed to learn that he was leaving Virginia Beach to go to Scottsdale, AZ shortly after the surgery. Dr. Doxey referred me to Dr. James Snyder (Norfolk Surgical Group). Dr. Doxey did a superb job with my gastric-bypass and Dr. Snyder did a terrific job fixing a encarcerated abdominal hernia and post-op care.

Dr. Doxey's office staff was highly professional and I highly recommend him. Dr. Doxey had a structured aftercare program and he did address the risk of surgery. From a scale of 0 to 10 with 10 being the highest I would rate Dr. Doxey as being 10+ and the same holds true for Dr. Snyder.

I feel that surgical competence is very desirable but bedside manner is also desirable. Both of my surgeons, Dr. Doxey and Dr. Snyder have very high standards. I would have no reservations of having them perform surgery on me or my family.

Dr. Doxey is a great surgeon! I don't have a single complaint about him! From the first time I met him I knew I was in the best possible care that I needed. He is very aware of any medical issues and sees them through and is very concerned about how his patients are doing pre-op, in the hospital, and post-op. Very professional! His staff is great both in the office and the operating room. Doxey really emphasizes aftercare and visits with you personally to see how things are going. He makes sure that you fully understand the ramifications of this surgery or else he will thoroughly explain them to you. Dr. Doxey is one of the best doctors in this field and he works at the best center with Scottsdale Bariatrics. He has excellent bedside and surgicl manner and is a great all around doctor who really cares about his patients.

I really liked Dr. Doxey. He has a good sense of humor and listens. He explains things very well and made me very comfortable.

The office staff were very nice. Especially Becky in the insurance approval dept. She has been a total Angel.

1/16/04 Dr. Doxey is very sweet and caring. He really emphasizes after care. I could not have asked for a better doctor.

I switched to Dr. Blackstone because the first surgeon I picked will not work with patients who do not have a PPO that will approve surgery. So far my experience with Dr. Blackstone's staff has been positive. Also the first Surgeon, Dr. S., does not offer the lap. procedure as an option, and is quick to tell you that the open procedure will involve a scar from bottom of ribs to past the bb if need be. I was relieved to learn that I will be able to have a procedure that will leave barely noticeable tiny marks. Though I have not met Dr. B. in person, the center does provide a video of the Dr. that can be viewed in the privacy of your home and shared with family. That video explains different procedure options and their potential risks. The program is very structured and in her video Dr. B. seems to be a softer personality than was Dr. S. The Psychologist I was referred to by Dr. B's staff is marvelous and thorough. So far, so good.
