James Colberg Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Colberg is great and his office staff(Pat)
is very efficient. He doesn't worry about
rushing you out of the office so he can get
to the next patient. He makes sure to answer
any and all questions. He stresses follow-up
care and gives printed info on the diet restictions
and anything else you may need. At first he
seems a little silly because of his sense of humor
but overall I had no problems.

MY FIRST VISIT WITH DR. COLBERG WAS A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE. I CONSULTED WITH HIM AUGUST'01 AND MY HUSBAND AND I FELT THAT HE WAS VERY THOUROUGH. HE SPENT A GOOD DEAL OF TIME EXPLAINING THE SURGERY AND PERTAINING DATA WITH US. WE FOUND HIM TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND PLEASANT. I WILL MEET AGAIN WITH HIM WEDNESDAY 9/26/01. HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO SET THE SURGERY DATE. I LOOK FORWARD TO UPDATING THIS AS I JOURNEY THROUGH THIS.

My total first impression of him was he is a very well liked doctor and my impression has never changed.Dr.Colberge office is very small for such a very large clientele. It is very nice it has a old fashion scale and lots of chairs and his secretary Pat is wonderful. All new patients should bring all there imformation with them at consultation because they work very swiftly.Things you should bring to the consultation s.s,birth records,I.D.Dr.Colberg emphasizes aftercare with all his clients he talks about the importance of follow up visits and the whole nine yards.

I have met with Dr. Colberg twice. He fully
explained everything to me. He ordered a lot
of pre op testing and I even had to have
consultations with a GI Doctor and a Cardo
Doctor. This is to clear you for surgery and also a CYA.
I am scheduled for surgery 9/25/01, and I am
counting the days.
I have complete faith in him, and every person I met at Jefferson has been very
pleasant and professional.

I met Dr. Colberg today. I found him to be warm, sensitive and knowledgeable. His understanding of obesity was a refreshing experience. I had done considerable research prior to this first consult, and it was comfortable discussing with him my understanding and requests for additional info or clarification. I've scheduled my pre-op exams and have another consult on 7/11. I feel safe having him as my surgeon. After reading other postings about Dr. Colberg concerning his taking a lot of time and not feeling rushed I was surprised that twice I had to get him to stop making movements toward the door because I hadn't completed my questions. He was however very patient with my continued questions. I had a list and would recommend having one and going over it before your consult is done.

2nd Consult today. Dr. Colberg was kind beyond any expectation. Was very impressed with how easy it was to feel at ease with him.

My husband and I were very impressed with Dr. Colberg. I have had 2 appointments with him and I'm scheduled for surgery on July 17th. The office is very busy, but I feel that both Dr. Colberg and Pat make the wait worth while. A considerable amount of time was spent explaining the surgery and the risks involved. I felt that all of our questions were answered to our satisfation. So far, I would rate the experience as a perfect 10.I will update after my surgical experience when I will be able to speak with first hand knowledge.

Dr. Colberg has gotten rave reviews from many patients, and mine is no different. My original appointment was scheduled in November, but hit it lucky and was able to make it at the last minute this past Monday. I had to wait 2 hours, but I didn't mind because he gave me the same attention. He is very thorough, sensitive, confident in what he does, and puts your mind at ease by answering all of your questions. I found that reading a few testemonies a day has helped answer alot of my questions. Thank you to everyone who has been honest and full of details when writing your experience. One thing I did forget to ask him is aftercare. I don't know if he has something structured to attend post op.

I did find out there are no local support groups that I have found as yet. I am still looking. My second appointment with Dr. Colberg was the same as the first. He was very gentle, answered all my questions and was encouraged from all my test results.

I met Dr. Colberg a year ago. I thought he
was odd, but I already have a lot of Docs and
most of them are odd. Brilliant but odd.
He was very thorough with my pre-op testing
and found some things he wanted me to address
with my primary doc before going ahead with
the surgery.
His office "staff" is named Pat. I spoke to her
at length many times on the phone and she
was a great source of info. She's never been
short with me, but I noticed she can be if
provoked, a few times while I was in the office.
To her credit, she has a hectic job and she
seems to keep everything running smoothly.
I have a soft spot for anyone (secretarty, nurse
or other!)working in a docs office, because
I did it for years, and it really tests your
stress levels.
The doc and Pat went over just about everything
with me numerous times, and gladly answered
my questions and concerns.
My only complaint would be the time you have
to wait to get an appointment with Dr. C.
He is booked well in advance, although Pat
does hold appt. times to make them available
for patients who need surgical follow-up.

I wasn't sure if I liked him, but felt he was the only game in town, so I tried not to have an opinion because I wanted the surgery.
He called me the night before surgery to make sure I was ok and ready, not sure if he does that but I had been diagnosed with pneumonia the month before the day before I was originally scheduled to have the surgery, and it had to be cancelled. So in my opinion, that is why he called me. He was very attentive while I was in the hospital.
Pre-op, he was very informative about the risks of the surgery, he requires several screening tests to make sure where the pt's general health is, this is done per patient depending on any co-morbidities or health issues the pt may have.
I don't feel aftercare is explained pre-op enough, it waits until you're in the hospital and it's difficult to comprehend when on pain medications. He does have a structured after care program. I have asked him to give pt's the information pre-op so they can read it and be more prepared. I told him I wished I had had the information prior to the surgery. I have no way of knowing if he'll take the suggestion.
I am a health professional, I feel he is OK,
his reputation and the fact that he is Board
Certified in Bariatric Surgery is very important and a plus.
