Dr Madura is just one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. He is very knowledgeable on this procedure----the moment you meet him you are impressed with his concern. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Chicagoland area who is even thinking about surgery. He will give you an honest opinion and tell you what you might expect. His office manager Samantha is extremely helpful in dealing with all the insurance red tape. Aftercare is just as important as the surgery itself. Aftercare is structured and he does recommend attending monthly support meetings. He is very pleasant and has a smile that lights up the room.
I WAS REFERRED TO HIM BY A CO-WORKER. I FELT LIKE HE VERY PATIENT AND DIDN'T MIND ANY OF MY QUESTIONS. AT FIRST I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS BEING IGNORED OR A PEST TO HIM AND HIS STAFF, BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT I WAS ONE OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HE SAW ALL WEEK, SO SOMETIMES I HAD TO WAIT A LITTLE. HE'S VERY IMFORMATIVE AND HE WELCOMES YOUR PARTNER/SPOUSE OR ANY OTHER RELATIVE THAT YOU BRING. HE ACTUALLY WON'T PERFORM THE SURGERY WITHOUT SOMEONE ELSES KNOWLEDGE. I THOUGHT THAT WAS GOOD FOR ME ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF SUPPORT. HE ALSO VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD ABOUT THE HEALTH RISK AND THE CHANCES OF DEATH DURING/AFTER SURGERY. HE VISITED ME THREE TIMES IN THE HOSPITAL AND MADE ME FEEL PROUD WHEN HE CALLED ME AN IDEAL PATIENT. I ALSO WALKED AWAY WITH MINIMAL SCARRING DUE TO HIS LAP WORK.
i have been refered thru the diabetic clinic here qt cook county

Dr. Madura was personable and thorough in taking my history. Appears to have had great success in doing RNY surgery as he has been doing them for 5 years at Rush but was honest in his explanation of complications, risks, etc. Feel confident in his ability as I begin this journey. His assistant, Samantha, was pleasant as well. Await approval of my insurance and hope to have my surgery in June '02. Will update as things progress.
I called Dr Madura's office after my friend Denitha recommended him, I was kind of nervous at first, but I must say that I was very impressed with Dr Madura. He was very kind and compassionate in our first meeting. He appears to have a sincere concern for the obese. He is very well informed and probably an excellent surgeon as well. He went over all the risks in detail. His staff was especially kind and considerate. He did emphasize the importance of working with the dietician immediately following surgery. I would encourage anyone considering this surgeryin the Chicago area to consider meeting Dr Madura he comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great surgical competence and bedside manner knows how to make you feel very comfortable. I would give Dr Madura a 10.
I had my first appointment with Dr. Madura yesterday 4/30/01. I was extreamly impressed with him
He was very nice and seemed to really understand what my concerns were. He made sure that I was
aware of all complications and was very open on his stats. Although he has only been doing this
type of surgery for two years and has only done about 65 of them I still feel like he is a good
surgon. He does not do the BPD/DS which I am still interested in. He feels the RNY gives you all
of the tools that you need to be sucessful. He was able to give me a surgery date as soon as July
but I chose September since I wanted to wait until after to summer for personal reasons. His office
staff was very friendly. The next step is a sleep study, dietitian consultation and a phychologist
evaluation. After these I will meet with him again. I will post more as I go along. I'm still
investigating the BPD/DS.
This man is my hero!!! Tip: It's not the surgeon that makes the difference, it's the ANESTHESIOLOGIST! Think about it!
My dynamic duo brought me out of surgery pain free and feeling great! Seriously though, Dr. Madura is an amazing man, he's compassionate and extremely knowledgeable, I loved working with him. He doesn't have much of an aftercare program, so I would say if you're the type of patient that's high maintenance, you may be better off with one of those Bariatric programs. Dr. Madura appears to cater to the 'educated'patient. He expects you to know what you're getting your self into. He answers all your questions and provides you with all the necessary information you need. I rate him a 15 on his surgical competence and bedside manner.
