My first impression of Dr. Seay was wonderful!! He was determined to help me and stand by me through it all. He was just what I thought he would be, but better. He had wonderful bedside manner and concern for me. His staff was just as supportive and helpful as he was. He had trained them well :)! There was nothing I didn't like about Dr. Seay (I may be partial, but I'm honest!). I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. Dr. Seay really emphasizes aftercare because he doesn't want you to have gone through this for nothing. It's a big, big step to do and then to just let it all slip away because you didn't take care of yourself afterwards...he wouldn't hear of it!!! He has a structured aftercare program, but it really depends on the person. My sister had this surgery 3 years before me and her eating habits and way of life are completely different from mine, but we are still healthy and happy (we had two different surgeons).
Unfortunately, since my surgery, and not too long ago, Dr. Seay was involved in a horrific automobile accident and no longer performs the surgery. Dr. Stahl, in Alabaster, Alabama, is who I see now (if I need to) and alot of my friends have had him perform their surgeries.

Dr. Seay helped to pioneer the gastric bypass (non tisected stomach surgery) in 1973. He is a true educator with his patients as well as his peers. He offered excellent pre-care preparation AND education as well as follow up (something I have found to be scarce locally) He is unfortunately not doing the surgery any longer due to a horrific traffic accident last year, but still enjoys giving information and encouragement to support groups, individuals and collegues.
On a negative note: the things he didn't emphasize was how painful my recovery would be and the distinct possibilities of the anemia I now have along with the hair loss. I understand though that these are all individual issues varying person to person.

He is a great doctor. I really felt he cared
about me. He's office staff was great. We have
moved away so there hasn't been much after care
after about 12 months, I did here that he had
retired.

He was very sensitive to the weight issue.

He explained the surgery in great detail and talked about post op.

I feel that he is not just in it for the money, but really cares what happens to the individual after the surgery is over.

His office secretary's name is Pam and she is a real sweetheart. If you ever have any questions, she will answer them or she will have Dr. Seay call you and talk to you.

Nothing

That he is a very caring surgeon.

He really emphasized how important it was to take the vitamins and the trinsicon religiously.

No

Yes, in depth.

In addition to his impressive credentials, I wanted to be Dr. Seay's patient due to the overwhelming amount of kudos he has from his former patients. Their opinion of him, his staff, and the hospital he uses is almost as important as his experience level. He does have a website for those who would like alittle more info.
It is: www.drseay.com/index.htm

I met Dr. Seay March 20 at his office in Fairhope, Alabama, outside of Mobile. My husband and I were both very impressed by his openness and willingness to understand my needs and explain the RNY procedure. In fact, he completely closed his office - locked the door - and pulled up a chair in the waiting room and said that he would stay until we were completely satisfied. Very unusual!
He was not in the least bit condescending and seemed to appreciate the fact that I came very prepared and knew a great deal about the procedure.
I can personally say that everyone else was right in their opinion of this doctor. He seems to put his patients on a pedestal. I felt a great sense of ease when I left... Now I'm really excited!

I have to mention his wonderful office manager, Pam, who has always answered my questions regarding scheduling, insurance, etc. without once making me feel as though I was hindering her. In fact, I feel like she's a friend.

The whole experience with Dr. Seay has been exceptional.

I can now officially say that the above statement is entirely truthworthy. I'm post-op now and my opinion of my Dr. has only increased. Even the nursing staff at the hospital are bowled over by this wonderful gentleman.

I would like to say that the nurses on staff (3rd Floor) were just exceptional. My sincerest thanks to Beth, Leah, Shelly, Cathy, Lacy, and Susan in particular...although all were wonderful. Even the pre-admit ppl at this hospital (Thomas Hospital - Fairhope, AL) were super!

I have only had one appointment with Dr. Seay, but I was very impressed with him on our first meeting. I also have been referred to him by several women, who couldn't think of anything negative about him. On my first visit, I was nervous, I didn't know what to expect. He walked in to the waiting room, pulled a chair into the middle of the room, ad said, lets talk. We sat there for almost two hours. He explained the procedure in detail, I asked my questions and he answered them, in detail. I thought that he had a great sense of humor. I enjoyed him very much. I will update after later dealings with him. Oh and by the way, Pam at Drr. Seay's office is great too!!

My first impression of Dr. Seay was that he was humorous, which relaxed me, but when asked a serious question, he got right to the point. I liked him more each time I saw him and the more I read about his experience. I felt more and more comfortable with him as time passed. I loved and still love the staff. No matter how buzy they were, they always took the time to answer my questions, no matter how silly they may have been and acted like it was no bother at all. I never felt uncomfortable or upset with the doctor or his staff and they were all so encouraging and still are. Be prepared to laugh when you see this doctor. He is so good at what he does and is so confidant. He has used the same hospital and staff for 20 years and lives very close to the hospital and is very dedicated to his patients. He stresses aftercare and wants to see you several times during the first year. He stresses the risks about the same as any other surgery...if you smoke, there are more chances of bloodclots; if you are over 400 lbs, the risks of complications become greater, etc. I would give this doctor a 10+ on a scale of 1-10. He has a wonderful bedside manner, as do the nurses at Thomas Hospital, and is very confident and successful in what he does. His surgical competence is great also. He found I had a umbelical hernia that I knew nothing about until surgery. He stresses walking the first day of surgery and is excited right along with you and shows it.

first impression was very kind humerous down to earth person who enjoys and takes serious his ability to help us. i learned he is very firm about what he can do and what we must do to be partners in our goal.pam is great and always patient she always had time to answer and suggest as i needed .if i had to pick the least thing it would also be the best thing i liked its that he takes his time and does not rush.dr. seay addressed the seriousness of this procedure and never hesitated when asked about deaths complications etc.i would rate dr. seay at this point before surgery with an A+.his office side manner is very goodand if i did no think is surgical expertise is great i woiuld go the other way. after surgery on jan 26 i will update this as to any more positive or negative thoughts or experiences.

Dr. Seay seemed very knowledgable. He answered all my questions, in fact was glad I had a lot of questions. He feels the most successful people are the ones who prepare themselves. I was impressed.
