Dr. Maguire is a very understanding and helpful person. He was able to answer all my questions and help me with my concerns. He is very dedicated at helping women/men with weight problems. He has been doing these surgerys for 12 or more years. He is very through!! I has so many pre-op tests. He wants to make sure everything is ok before he actually does the surgery. His staff is wonderful. His assistant, her name is Kim, is wonderful!!! She is very helpful and she goes out of her way to help you with what ever you need. Before the surgery, Dr. Maguire helped me understand all of my pros and cons, believe me, there were more pros than cons!!!! He has been doing this surgery for many years and I have heard nothing but great things about him. I feel felt very comfortable and still feel comfortable with Dr. Maguire. After the surgery, the patients are required to come in on a monthly basis so that he can check your progress and help you with any questions or concerns that you might be dealing with. I would recomend this Dr. to anyone, he is very through about what he does.

Dr. Maquire is a good surgeon. He was kind, caring and considerate. My first impression was that he was very thorough and wanted to make sure that this was not a decision to be made lightly. The more I see him, the better I like him. His staff is extremely qualified and several of them have also had this surgery.
Dr. Maquire feels that the aftercare process is very, very important. There is a structured program run by him and his staff, also a news letter and you are directed to call his office at any time if you are having problems.
Rating Dr. Maquire on a 1-5, I would give him a 5. He is a competant surgeon who has good bedside manner, and I think both of these are important.

He is a very caring & professional man with 20 years experience. The staff is the GREATEST. when you call they seem to know who you are. There is also a support group meeting every month. One for the RNY's & one for the BPD/DS. The hospital has a special ward for his patients and the care is first rate.

First impression of him was WOW!! Very informed Surgeon - this is his Specialty - has been doing it for 20 years...Love his dry sense of humor. His staff is very supportive!! KIM is WONDERFUL!! They are all very compassionate! Effie has had the surgery. While there is a rapid increase of individuals having WLS, Dr. Maquire still maintains only 5 surgery's a week...so waiting could be up to 6 months...but I would rather wait than be herd through like an assembly line. Aftercare is very important to him....after your first year post-op...he just doesn't cut you lose - he wants to see you a minimum of once a year then!! Has a very active support group that welcome's pre-ops. During his mandatory seminar he discussed the two surgeries that he performs and the risks with both!! I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery!!

DR. MAGURIE WAS WOUNDERFUL. VERY CAREING AND
KNOWS HIS STUFF. AND I STILL FEEL THE SAME ABOUT HIM HIS STAFF IS THE SAME WAY. MY IMPRESSION CHANGE. BECUSES THERE NO WAY TO DESCRIBE WHAT DR.MAGUIRE HAS DONE. HE REALY CHANGE MY LIFE. AND MAY GOD BLESS HIM FOR THAT. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM. THAT YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD DOCTOR EVEN THE HOSPITAL STAFF SAY HE TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIS IS PATIENTS. HE SAID THAT I WILL SEE HIM FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND THAT I NEED TO KEEP MY APPT. YES. I WENT TO HIS SEMINAR AND IT WAS SO NICE BECAUSE HE HAD EVERY THING IN OR THE GOOD WITH THE BAD AND WAS VERY UP FRONT ABOUT EVERYTHING HE HIT ON EVERYTHING YOU WOULD THINK TO ASK SO AT THE END OF THE SESSION YOU WOULD'NT HAVE A QUSTION TO ASK.
WITH MY RIGHT HAND TO GOD I GIVE DR JOHN P MAGUIRE A 100%. EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM IS GREAT . I TOLD ALL MY OVERWIEGHT FRIENDS ABOUT HIM THERE CHECKING HIM OUT FOR THERE SELF.

I have only seen dr. Maguire in his group presentation but was very impressed with him. He is an obvious caring person with a heart for helping morbid obese people get their life back. He spoke of patients triumps over weight as if they were his own personal experiences. He is very cautious about the patients he does it on and is very serious about his follow up care. He has an excellent support group that meets monthly and a wonderful group of staff. For the first time in my 6 months of seeking weight loss surgery, at the end of the seminar, I felt like I was finally in the right place. I do just want to add that the other doctor I had seen, Dr. Earl Gaar, I still think is an awesome doctor and has a wonderful office staff. I just wish he did BPD/DS surgery. I wish more surgeons period would learn how to do this surgery because I think as more people have it and the word gets out about how normal life is post op, it will be the surgery of choice by more physicians which will be great because hopefully then, patients won't have to travel 3 hours from home like I am having to have this surgery.
1-29-01: I am now 8 months post op and if you are all looking for a surgeon, I'm telling you, this man and his entire office staff are FANTASTIC. I am a nurse and I have never worked iwth nor been treated by a physician who cares more or is better at his work that Mr. Maguire. He is a gift straight from heaven as far as I am concerned.
