My first impression of Dr Maguire was that he was very quiet but was willing to make sure all your questions were answered. I feel he is a very concerned Dr and will go the extra mile for those in need. His office staff is very friendly and easy to reach and work with. They keep you well informed of whats going on and will call you when changes are made. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to so you'll feel educated and comfortable. Both the Dr and his staff never made me feel bad for calling and asking about something. After care is stressed greatly with Dr Maguire. He wants to keep close track of how you're doing. You see him once a month for a year then drop to once every other month then I believe it's once every 6months thereafter. He also attends the support group meetings every month and makes himself available to answer questions. In his informational meeting he addresses the risks of surgery. He has a very good handout that explains the process of surgery and aftercare. I would rate him very highly and recommend him to anyone looking into WLS. I would rate his surgical competence of the very highest order and I like his bedside manner too. It's friendly and a bit on the quiet side.

Dr. Maguire is very thorough. I attended his information session in October 2000, and he explained both surgeries, BPD and RNY, thoroughly. His staff was very helpful that day. I have since had to call the office on several occasions and Kim is great. I haven't felt too comfortable with the person who answers the phones, she doesn't seem as friendly and helpful as the other staff.

9/4/01I haven't spoken to him or his office yet, but he is in my insurance network. I have emailed his office through the office website and asked some very basic questions. They haven't responded yet. I have read good things about him.

I liked him very much, he was very thorough in his explanations of the surgery, the possible complications and all the other facts. My impression of him only continued to get better. He is a very caring, compassionate doctor who cares very deeply about his patients. His office staff was very warm, friendly, and willing to do anything to help. He is to the point, and he doesn't beat around the bush, he is straight forward about what he wants you to know, but quiet in other ways. He expects you to follow up with him with all your appts. and he expects you to take all your vitamins, drink all your water and get exercise. Dr. Maguire did address all the risks of surgery, prior to having surgery he requires that every patient attend an informational meeting, at which he is present and explains everything about the surgery, complications, aftercare, and why a person is obese. This meeting takes about 3 hours and then he will answer any questions that you may have. I would rate him on a scale of 1-10 a 10. He is the best surgeon I have ever been seen by. Dr. Maguire has great bedside manner and his competency in surgery is excellent. No surgeon is a God, but he trusts in God to help him and that is definately a plus in my book!!!!!

I went to an info session on 11/10/00 and he seemed very knowledgeable, confident and kind. He was a little shy and soft spoken, but I don't mind that at all! He's a founding member of the ASBS, and he's been doing surgery for 20+ years....so I feel like I can trust him and his opinion completely.

When I had my surgery, he was very kind, had great bedside manner, and always made sure I was comfortable. Aftercare has been great; he is always there to answer my questions and address concerns. He covers everything from physical issues to relationships with my friends and family as I lose weight. He is often at the support group meetings to answer questions. On a scale of 1-10 I give Dr. Maguire a 20!!!

he was very soft spoken and understanding.
his office staff is very nice and helpful.
he stresses aftercare very much and has support group meetings every tuesday. I would like to have the best doctor who has a good bedside manner as well. someone who respects me as a person. His office staff is very well versed on the insurance game, which is amazing considering the number of insurance plans out there. Just get all of the info Kim tells you to get the first time and the process will go much faster.

Dr. Maguire is a quiet, gentle man, I am told he is a Christian, which is a great plus for me (I like a man that is close to God when he is cutting on me :) He is very concerned for his patients and will not schedule more than 5 (I think, maybe less) surgeries a week so he can follow those closely. He has a free 2 1/2 hr. informational session before the surgery. You sit through a detailed power point presentation covering every detail of the RNY and the DS surgeries. His office staff was awesome, friendly, respectful. At the end of his presentation he even had 2 people (1 happened to be one of his staff) that had already had the surgery to answer any questions he hadn't answered. He and the post ops stayed and answered every question. He definetly EMPASIZED aftercare. I truly trust him emphatically. I would rate him a 9 on a scale of 1-10, just because I want to upgrade him when I get to know him better :)
