As a nurse I have taken care of a few gastric bypass patients under a different doctor, who I would never recommend. It makes me want to scream whenever I see people on this site entrusting their life with that man. You should never have surgery at anyplace other than a hospital, if an emergency arrises these "clinics" are not capable of handing issues promptly.

I found Dr. Maguire 2 years ago using this website. I read all the reviews about him that I could, NOT ONE was negative. I am very glad I chose him for my surgeon. He was well worth the wait! (Over 3 months from date of approval.) I truly trust him with my life.
Dr. Maguire really cares about his patients. He shows his care by being a very skilled DS surgeon (one of the best!), by having an excellent bariatric ward set up at the hospital, by requiring LIFE LONG aftercare, and by really taking the time to listen.
I cannot say enough good about him.
The farther post-op I'm getting, the more thankful I am to him. May God Bless him for all the good work he does in people's lives! Just think, the ability to make someone's life filled with hope, where it was once dark and depressing! (Sigh) Yeah, I can totally understand why some doctors (not mine though!) have a god complex. It's a powerful thing, to help others.

First impression - personality of an ameoba
After surgery impression - this is a really great guy; it was the "try banna in your protein shake" suggestion than impressed me because the way he said it made me feel like he had actually tried some of that nasty stuff himself. I really think that he is a very shy man and that it takes him a little to get acquainted with his patients.
Follow up care is heavily emphasized at this practise but I wish there was more nutrional counseling aviable.
I chose Dr. Maguire for his outstanding surgical reputation and have decided that despite my first impression I really like him. To me competence in medicene/skill is much more important than any bedside manner although nothing is objectionable about him. In fact, I enjoyed his quiet manner in the hospital and he is someone I could bring up very personally embaressing issues to comfortably. Now since I write this I've decided that that is one of the other greatest skills a doctor could have - not make one ever feel embarressed.

I can not sat enough about Dr Maguire. He is
a fabulous man who tok very good care of me. I went through gastric bypass surgery without any complications and to this day I remain complication free. I have recommended several of my friends to him and they are having surgery soon.
He tskes great care of his patients after surgery as well. He stresses aftercare for life and sees his patients post-op on a regular bases.

My first impression of Dr. Maguire was that he was very quiet and reserved. He is a spectacular surgeon and really cares about his patients' wellbeing. The New Life Surgery Center has a very good aftercare program with many follow up visits; 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, finally progressing to just once a year. The staff are wonderful. Vicky is a sweetheart and will do all she can to make you feel better!
The only thing I would change, is I wish they had follow up visits on Mondays or Fridays. I live three hours away and if I have to take a day off, I'd rather have a three day weekend out of it! :) I know, silly...

Dr. Maguire is the only person I ever considered when I decided to have GBP. He is not the most personable man, but as you get to know him more he does open up a little. After my surgery I finished up my nursing school. I am an RN @ KMC now and have worked a lot with Dr. Maguire. He is a very thorough surgeon. He is considerate of his patients needs. He has over 20 years experience with WLS, and is a very competent Dr. He expects you to follow up with after-care. He states that you will be a patient until you die or until he does. If there is anyone in the Dayton or surrounding area contemplating WLS I would definitely go to Dr. Maguire.

Dr. Maguire was very thorough in his presentation of the surgicial process. My first in person meeting with him was very nice. He was open, I asked many questions. He answered them to my satisfaction. The pre-testing that Dr. Maguire required was very thorough. There were a few shocks along the way, (if you are a person like me)I didn't need to know every little about the process in advance. When I told Dr. Maguire about my tramuatic experience with the DUMMY presentation he seemed geniunely sorry for the effect it had on me. The support staff at the office were pleasant and seemed to have a good sense of humor which is important to me. The dietician presented all of the information about the diet that the Dr. wanted us to know, it was very thorough. All of the risks were discussed more than once. And you really have to believe that the benefits will outweight the risks. Overall my experience with the doctor and staff was a good one.
