My first impression of him was good. I think mainly because I had already spoken to so many people about him and I saw a picture of him on the web site. So so far it has not changed. His office staff are wonderful, caring and professional. I really liked them from the first day I called and already had a good feeling about Dr. maguire before I met him. The part I really love is how he stresses post op care. He really cares about his patients. Soft spoken though, but that could be an advantage. I would want someone I was intimidated by opening me up.There is nothing that I can say at this point that I like least. The info meeting ran long, but I'd rather knowing EVERYTHING then him leaving anything to wonder about. Regardless of the risks he did advise you of them, however his aftercare and precautions he takes the benefits out weigh the risks. He is overall a nice person. I habe not had the pleasure of experiencing bed size manners with him, but i will change that really soon hopefully. When I had my one on one with him, he is a very dry person with few words. It is amazing how much he talks during his orientation. I can tell he does have a funny side, I just havent seen it yet.

I liked Dr. Maguire from the get-go. He is blunt, no-nonsense, and not a huggy type of person. He never talks down to me, and he listens to what I have to say. He takes a very commonsense approach, like, eat something if it agrees with you, don't eat it if it doesn't.
My only "complaint" is that I'd like to see more complete labs at the 3 and 6 month marks similar to the Rabkins' labs.

At first impression, one could think that Dr. Maguire has no personality, and is lackluster. I didn't go to him for his entertainment value--but for his excellent reputation. He deserves it--I am 3 1/2 years out, very active in the support group, and personally met with more than 150 of his patients. He is one of the most cautious, caring and gifted doctors, let alone surgeons, I have ever met. He addresses risks of surgery, has created a floor for his patients and has educated the hospital staff to our special needs. The new bariactric wing has oversized furniture for the comfort of his patients, and he is always working to improve conditions for the morbidly obese and WLS people. He also has been training excellent surgeons to continue care when and if he retires. Cannot say enough good about him. Ok, he's human, and sometimes things don't go as planned. He continues to search for answers, and learns from the situations. Rosi

Dr. Maguire is very concerned that you are aware of all concepts of the operation and that you have no questions before surgery. He has continued to answer all my questions and take care of me with a 100% involved attitude. His office staff is wonderful. Anytime I've had a problem or question, they give their full attention, just like Dr. Maguire. I really have no complaints about Dr. Maguire, he's great! He takes the time to talk to you, you do not feel neglected at any time. He insists on seeing you every month to three months after the surgery, depending on your needs. He keeps you informed of all aftercare programs, support groups etc., and is very insistent that you keep your appointments after surgery. He made me aware of all the risks of the surgery before I had it and my overall rating of him and his staff is off the chart, a definite 100% attitude. Dr. Maguire is an excellent surgeon with a quiet beside manner. He satisfied my questions and has kept me informed of my health position throughout this past year. For me, in my situation, Dr. Maguire more than met my expectations.

My first impression of Dr. Maguire was that he was competent, knowledgable, caring, quiet and with a subtle sense-of-humor. The support group session confirmed my first impressions and led me to believe that he is genuinely concerned for each and every person. He sat in the background like a proud parent.
The risks have been explained even with a great deal of detail by some of his patients. It only shows how well he is prepared and willing to deal with complications. I have heard only great things about his surgical skills and follow-up care. I will have a lifetime relationship with him until he retires and then he assured me that I would be seeing one of his 2 co-doctors.
Dr. Maguire's office staff is wonderful. No matter how busy they are, they make you feel like you are the most important person. They return calls very promptly. The support group is awesome! You can ask them anything.
So far I would rate Dr. Maguire an 11 out of 10! He's awesome!

Dr. Maguire is No nonsense but very experienced..He cares about his patients. His Office staff is wonderful and very helpful..especially Vicky. He definately know what he is doing..he saved my life...literally. My aftercare is great..and to the point. Dr. Maguire has an information seminar at the very beginning to answer any questions I had. All surgery is a risk..so you have to be prepared. You have to know what you are getting into and what could happen.
My surgical experience was very scary but I survived and would do it again if I had to. I am off 9 prescriptions and am almost not a diabetic any more. I hope to be off all diabetic meds real soon. Wish me luck.

I was impressed with Dr. Maguires knowledge and expertise of gastric bypass surgery. he is a rather quiet person and will talk to you if you have questions but in general does not chit chat with you. He responds quickly to any concerns or questions you have. His office staff are wonderful and take the time to respond to anything you need. I would recommend him to anyone.

I attended Dr.Maguire's informational session on January 9th, 2004. One of my observations is that Dr. Maguire is a surgeon that other surgeon's will go to for their own gastric bypass. That is about the highest praise that one can be given. Even though I already knew he had an outstanding reputation, this knowledge raised my confidence levels that much higher. The two things that were of the upmost importance were his surgical skill and follow-up care. I look forward to working with him and the staff at the New Life Surgical Center on my journey!
