Kevin Mann Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My first impressino of Dr.Mann was that he was a very kind, knowledgeable doctor. His impression is still the same even though I did have to have a revision w/Dr.Catania three days after my bypass. There isn't anything I don't like about him - he has great bedside manner, is very upfront about things and is very willing to work with me on everything.rnrnTo any new bariatric patients, please take the time to seriously think about the risks and whether or not you are mentally prepared to handle this if you have complications. I was only the second person that Dr.Mann has operated on that has needed to go back under for another surgery. Yes, it's one in 1,000, but you could be that one.

I first met Dr. Mann at orientation for prospective wls patients. I liked him right from the start. Joan Davis is his nurse. We get along well. You can tell she has done this a long time. In my one hour initial consult Dr. Mann went over everything & more that I was required to read/learn from the booklet given to me at orientation.Portsmouth Naval Hosp.has a very comprehensive education and support program. Psych, nutrition (before and after surgery) and medical clearance are all provided. All the risks/benefits of the surgery were discussed. rnIn my opinion, anyone wanting wls should remember that it is a tool. Just having the surgery will not change your life...you must work to change your life.

Ill answer the questions as they appear on the left here...rnMy first impression was that he was young. As we spoke, his knowledge and eloquence calmed that tiny fear. He was very forthcoming with all of my questions and all of the info that I need. He struck me as someone who is trustworthy.rnThere wasn't anything that I didn't like really.rnYes, we talked about aftercare and risks of the surgery. I had done a good amount of research on my own, so I knew those things in advance.rnHe actually called me the next day at work to let me know that he decided that I should also have an ECG and to schedule it asap. Getting through to me at work is no easy feat...!rnI was impressed that HE called me and not a nurse or secretary. I appreciated that. rnrnSurgical competence or bedside manner?rnBoth are good. rn

Dr. Chastanet is very nice and kind. I met him at the orientation class. He was very clear about the risks and benefits involved in this surgery. You can also tell that he really does care about his patients. I met the \"team\" as well. The psychiatrist, nutritionist, as well as the case manager (aka bariatric nurse). They are all very kind as well. I think they all work very hard to make sure that every patient succeeds. I will have to say that the way the discussed the aftercare...it sounds amazing and I'm very impressed.rnrnDr. Mann was a wonderful surgeon, I couldn't have asked for a nicer person to place my life in his hands. Him and Dr. Chastanet did the surgery together but for the most part I deal with just Dr. Mann. My first impression is the same as the one I still hold, his bedside manner is unbelievably wonderful and he is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He is also very helpful with all of my problems whenever anything comes up all I have to do is ask him and he answers even my most ridiculous questions.
