I had my first consult with Dr. Johnson March 14, 2002. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate my consult a 10. The office staff was very nice. I only waited about 15 minutes to see the surgeon. He was extremely nice and took time to answer LOTS of questions. He explained the surgery in detail. He stressed that after care is extremely important. He told me what would be expected of me after this surgery. I didnt feel rushed. I could tell he really CARES about his patients. He has a support group that meets the first Monday of every month at the hospital. I feel great about having him as my surgeon. I hope the paperwork gets done quickly. I'm so READY to be healthy.

VERY PROFESSIONAL

DR. J HAS DEVELOPED A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR AND HIS OFFICE AND STAFF ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HELP IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE.

THERE WAS NOTHING THAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT DR. JOHNSON

AFTER CARE IS VERY IMPORTANT AND HE LET YOU KNOW THAT. HE HAS ALSO ASSISTED IN THE FORMATION OF A SUPPORT GROUP FOR PROSPECTIVE AND POST OP PATIENTS....

HE TELLS YOU THE FACTS AS HE SEES THEM AS FAR AS RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SURGERY.

I WOULD RATE DR. J A 100 ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10.....HE IS TOPS.

A GOOD SURGEON HAS SURGICAL COMPETENCE. A GREAT SURGEN HAS BOTH!! AND DR. JOHNSON (NO RELATION)HAS BOTH! HE CARES!

I CANNOT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE BECAUSE MY EXPERIENCE WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.. THERE WERE NO UNEXPECTED THINGS AND NO COMPLICATIONS.

I work at the same hospital as Dr. Johnson and have developed a friendly working relationship with him. I knew he performed the surgery so I asked him about it. He is very enthusiastic about the surgery. I made an appointment to meet with him in his office. We met for aprox 1 hour and he went over all the risks, benefits, my eating history, etc. He is very knowlegeable about weight loss issues and the surgery. He understands the importance of educating the patient on ALL issues of the process, not just the surgery. He has even started a WLS support group in the Morgantown area. My experience with Dr. Johnson has been excellent so far. I would highly recommend him!

Dr. Mark was very personable. Great bedside manner. He spent lots of time with my husband & I. He was surprised that I was as informed as I was, (THANKS TO THIS WEBSITE). I asked important questions and was very much at ease with him. That is decent since I have been suffering from social phobia since May. I even had the chance to tell him about this site and he asked me to email him the address and I did. Thanks to this site I was able to review what others had to say about him first. He is simply fantastic!! He stressed the aftercare of eating the right things. His program is all clear liquids for 2 weeks, then soft foods for 4 weeks and then in the 6th week going to normal food. He said he encourages his patients to try as many different foods to see what they tolerate and what they don't. He addressed all the risks involved. I am particularly worried about blook clots and he does use an anticlotting medication before and after surgery. The only thing I didn't like about my visit was the rectal exam. YUCK!!

My first appointment with Dr. Bergstein and his staff is September 13, 2001. Wish me luck!
Well I saw Dr. Bergstein and was'nt impressed. I was dissapointed in his bedside manner. He was very flat and disinterested. There was just something missing... my gut told me to see a dietician and have a psych consult but to look for a different surgeon in the meantime, one in which I was comfortable with.
Good News!!! I met with Dr. Mark Johnson (also in Morgantown, WV) Oct 25, 2001. I heard about him through a friend of a friend who is a currently a pt of Dr. Johnson's. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed. Dr. Johnson is wonderful! After processing weight loss surgery with Dr. Johnson, I knew he was sincerely concerned and interested in assisting me gain control over my life through WLS. I believe and feel very confident in his abilities and skills as a surgeon. I am in the process of transferring all of my medical records to his office. YEAH!!! I am soooooo excited and can't wait for approval from my insurance company.

I will be going soon for my first Consult but I have been told by others on this site that he is a very good doctor. I will post more later.

9-17-01..Went to see Dr. Johnson today and was sooo impressed...He spent a lot of time with me explaining everything and I am completely confident in him...He has a great bedside manner and he was very easy to talk to..He said that I will be seeing him for many years as he keeps close watch over his patients...His staff was extremely kind and calmed my nerves right away...I would rate him and staff a 15...Absolutely nothing negative to post.

Dr. Mark Johnson was great!!! I had gone to see Dr. Colella and it was the worst experience of my life. He was rude and had a very rotten bedside manner. I am saying that this is how he treated me. You may have a better experience. Then I changed to Dr. Johnson. WOW!!! Am I glad I did!! This man is great. There is no long waiting period. He gave me a great exam. (I had no exam with Dr. Colella. Not even a blood pressure). Dr. Johnson's staff is also great. After surgery, you are to go to see him once a month for a year. Over all, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give him a 12!!! His bedside manner was wonderful and I have no problem putting my life in his hands. He knows what he is doing.
All is done and I am waiting to be approved. Once approved, the surgery will be about 2 weeks after that!!! I might not be thin this summer, but just wait until next summer!!!

Dr. Johnson is GREAT! He spent a lot of time with me just explaining things and making sure I understood everything that would be happening to me.

Mark is great, very friendly, easy to talk to. I didn't respond well to morphine pain
medicine and was in incredible pain. Had 2 friends that had this done before me and didn't have the pain I did. It took me 3 months to say that I was glad I did it. I haven't lost as fast as my friends did either. But, I am losing. I lost 65 pounds in 4 months. I am glad I did it. I developed a hernia that Dr. Johnson fixed during my surgery and it's back, so I have to have that repaired. I am upset about that because I can't stand the pain. Be sure and tell your doctor if you cannot tolerated pain so that they can help to make you comfortable.
