Yesterday 01/13/2010 I received a letter from Dr Nichols that he will no longer do any yearly check up appointments for bariatric patients. I understand they discontinued the program at Shasta Regional but I didn't expect Dr Nichols to discontinue yearly check ups with existing patients. My general md in town doesn't understand what I need for testing and now I lost the only doctor in town who knew what tests were needed. I've already had an internal hernia that he repaired in 2008. What happens when I need another repair? Will I need to go to Chico or Oregon? Gaylene Miller, Redding California

My first impression of Dr Nichols was that he was a very quiet, gentle man. He made me feel at ease. The more I saw him the more I liked him. He was always very caring when talking to you. He let you know upfront what you WOULD HAVE TO GIVE UP for the surgery. I was worried about the surgery and it's risks, but Dr Nichols put me at ease. After meeting him for my pre-op I felt even more at peace with him doing my surgery. I never had a problem with him offic staff, and I just LOVE the ladies at Shasta Regional's Bariatric Program...they love what they are doing and it shows in how they treat us. The nursing staff on the surgery floor after the surgery were great at treating us as humans and not someone that was FAT. Dr Nichols tells you over and over that you need to keep your follow up appointments and your aftercare. Do what the program says..and you will have success. I love Dr Nichols and the ladies that work this program

Dr. Nichols was rather quiet when we first met. Very professional and very clear about what was expected of me, and took the time to assure himself that I was not wasting either of our times with ballyhoo.rnrnAs time passed, we both got comfortable and more open. Having had the opportunity to work with many surgeons during my time in the military, I was impressed that Dr. Nichols is not tending toward the primadonna personality that I have experienced with many surgeons. There is no doubt in my mind Dr. Nichols truely believes he is helping people and desires to help us help ourselves.rnrnHis office, and the extended support staff are impressive. They are all \"people\" oriented.rnrnFuture patients should know they are expected to work with the program, meet the expectations of diet and exercise (as the weight goes down your ability to move, flex and bend goes up!) and attend support group meetings.rnrnI had no doubt about the risks before and after surgery. For me, the benefit of the surgery certainly was beyond the risk.rnrnI think Dr. Nichols has very good bedside manner, and his competence is shown through the number of patients he treats and the care he supervises.rnrnI trust him enough that if my mother needed a surgeon - I hope she would get him.

I chose Dr. Nichols in Redding after I was unable to come up with 3500 dollars for a program free @ Dr.Ludwigs office in Chico. It's a long drive but I'm finding it well worth it. rnThe staff at Shasta Reginal have been great and many of them have had gstric bypass so there very in tune with their patients. Everything seems to be straight forward and going smooth. I have already been approved for the surgery and I'm waiting for a surgery date from Dr.Nichols office. I will keep you updated with information as my surgery date becomes available.rnrnSurgery is on January 28th, just a few days away!

I think he will be my surgeon. He was the one I had my consult with. He was understanding when I told him how I knew I had an allergy to latex. Everyone was very pleasant and understanding. Some had had their surgeries by the two doctors in the office. They were very informative.

Dr. Mirande is a very nice, approachable person. He is respectful and treats you like you are a person, not some lazy, slob. He is passionate about his job, and the progress of his patient's. I am excited to have this surgery done. And feel at ease knowing he is at the wheel.

06/30/2007 rnMy first impression of Doctor Nichols was...WOW, this guy knows what he is talking about. Very informative and excited about my personal goals. He seemed to be very interested in my future success but also let me know that it's up to me to do so. After care and support meetings are vital and he encouraged to follow up with both. So far (since I haven't had the surgery yet) I would rate him a 10. We will see how his bedside manner is soon (which I'm sure is fantastic).rnrn07/19/2007rnSo had surgery and just like I predicted...Dr. Nichols was amazing. Very nice knew what he was doing. NO problems here.

Dr Nichols is a quiet man, but a very competant and caring doctor. I believe his passion is to inspire us to follow his program to the letter so we will be sucessfull. The program is tough, but it works. Dr Nichols and Dr Stone have operated on well over 500 patients and have not had one fatality. The program's sucess rate is incredible. The average excess weight loss is 80%. I believe 80% is way above average. The risks of surgery were discussed at least three times prior to surgery. I was well informed. There is nutritional support before and after surgery. I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking weight loss surgery.
