Dr. Nichols is a very soft spoken but extremly informative doctor. In my consultaion he went into detail about all of my options that I had. I have see a different surgeon before and Im so glad to have met Dr. Nichols I just feel so much more comfortable with him.

My first impression was that he was a very serious man, very proffesional.rn He seemed to really care about me as a patient and a person. His office staff was OK the very first nurse I had was very rude, but she was nice the second appt.rn There wasnt anything at all that I disliked about him. I loved the fact that he is an outdoor type of man, That he repects mother earth. He is adement about me keeping my appts. He really cares about his patients, its not just for the money. He let me know thoughly the risks of the surgery. I would definatly rate him a 10 I had no pain whatsoever after surgery, I am very thankful I got such a great doc!!

<b>Dr. Nichols isn't overly friendly at the first meeting, but was willing to answer questions, gave a good overview of the surgery. We did get into it over my PCP saying to stay away from Tylenol (due to my liver) and him saying that was the only pain medicine I was allowed to take. After I said "So we just shoot the liver?" he became more approachable. He showed up at the hospital early each morning which I appreciated, especially since it allowed me to come home by 11 am on day 2 post-op. He is usually short and sweet on examinations.

Of the two choices, surgical competence and bedside manner I chose surgical competence with at least polite respect. I got the added bonus that after the surgery Dr. Nichols is actually very nice and always compliments me on how well I'm doing and looking at the check-ups and such. He even joined our bariatric group softball team.

Whoohooo . . . had my surgery consult on September 6, 2006. The entire atmosphere was highly professional. My first impression was that he was a reserved but kind man. Dr. Nichols took his time reviewing all my paperwork so he could ask me questions and make notes. He then explained the surgery to myself and my husband. He answered all my questions, and even chuckled at one of my feeble jokes. Rick and I felt very comfortable with him. His office staff was very friendly. On September 12, 2006, I went back to see Dr. Nichols for my preop. He will talk and listen as long as you want. I told him my husband was scared, and we talked about the fact that if this surgery was high with complications, it would not be allowed. Somehow we got into a discussion about God, and I was extremely pleased, reassured, thankful, when he told that he prays before each surgery. Oh thank you, Lord, for leading me to a prayerful surgeon! One of the x-ray techs, when I had my chest x-ray, confirmed this fact. God is good!!!! Bless Dr. Nichols!

When I first met with Dr. Nichols I knew right then this man knew his business. He went through the procedure he was going to perform on me and then answered all of the questions that I had and all of the questions my fiancee threw at him. He was very professional and I knew he was the one I wanted to perform my surgery. I do think the people at the hospital was sneaky...I mean one minute I was there telling them how I had never had surgery before and the next minute I was in recovery. Sneaky people. Which I think was the best way to do this for me because otherwise I would have been very scared. They made me feel very comfortable. As for his office staff, well, I was the only one making the calls. I had planned on the date and time for months but it wasn't until the day that I was leaving for vacation that someone actually called me to schedule my appointment. That frustrated me a lot. Dr. Nichols came to see me first thing the next morning to check on me and that made me feel really good. I knew he had a lot of patients and I really didn't expect to see him until late. The whole way before surgery Dr. Nichols went over the procedure and shown me the pictures of the procedure and emphasized the risks that could happen. I wasn't scared of the procedure but I was terrified of the risks. I have not had any complications and I am a month out. In fact if I didn't have the little scars on my stomach I would think that he didn't do anything. Well, maybe the fact that I can't eat more than a couple tablespoons of food now. Dr. Nichols is very knowledgeable and very professional and took his time with me. I rate him very high. I recommend him to everyone. I have a brother who had the same surgery at another facility and their program is nothing like Dr. Nichols and honestly my brother doesn't look healthy. Now, I have two other friends that have had this same surgery and I think Dr. Nichols actually performed both of their surgeries and they are both looking great and doing great. As long as you stick with their program you will get the results. I have never been happier. Thank you so much Dr. Nichols!!!rnCharlene

Dr. Nichols is friendly although slightly stand-offish. I liked him however and he is very knowledgable and experienced with laparascopic surgery. The staff at his office is awesome so far. Both of the surgeons are realistic about the risks of surgery but are also enthusiastic about the positive results that can be had as long as this tool is used properly and the guidelines are followed strictly. Dr. Nichols really spelled out what the first year out is normally like and then what can be expected in the years to come. Surgical competance is the most important for me. I feel confidant in Dr. Nichols to do my surgery as well as the whole Shasta Regional program.

My first impression was that he was somewhat dry. He did warm up during the course of the appointment. He spent 45 minutes explaining the procedure, it's benefits and the risks. At the end of the appointment he asked if we had any questions. I presented by typed list of 28 questions and he went through each of them and gave thorough answers and referred me to the appropriate person if he was unable to answer the question. He feels it is very important that the patient follows through with the complete program for at least a year. I left feeling he would be very competent doing the procedure. I would recommend him to others.
