Dr. Sabback has a brusk, and to-the-point sort of personality. However,he has been doing open RNY's for over 25 years, so I have a lot of faith in his abilities.
His office staff is very friendly and helpful - especially Jean, who submits the insurance info.
The only "negative" things I could possibly say about Dr. Sabback are that I felt he rushed me through the question/answer phase, and his bedside manner is perhaps a bit distant - but I don't need my hand held -
I need a great surgeon!
Dr. Sabback is very honest about possible complications, while also offering reassurement. All in all, I would rate Dr. Sabback and his staff as perfect "10's"!!
Dr S was very business like and very thorough. He is older but has the certification and the skill to do the surgery and knows how to do it well. He does not take risks. I feel very comfortable in his hands.
First his figures your BMI and then tells you what you should weigh, then he ask you questions about the diets you have been on, then the exercise programs you have participated in. He wants to know what other health problems you may have, actually he is developing a history of you. He reiterates many times that this surgery is a life changing surgery. Eating habits will have to change and the mind set of eating will have to change in order to help the surgery do what it is designed to do.
The office staff was very professional. They were all very likable and in time I feel we all will loosen up.
The aftercare was emphasized alot. That what you were willing to do to follow the diet would mean how much weight you would loose.
He does have a support group and he told me I would be participating.
I liked Dr Sabback and he is best with his surgical competence. His bedside manner is very direct.
I asked Dr S questions and he answered all of them completely with explanations. I did not feel rushed with him.
I rate him over all as excellent.
I had my first meeting with Dr. Sabback yesterday. I was impressed with his humor and intelligence. I feel comfortable with him and I think he will do a good job for me. His staff is very nice. I go back on the 23rd of August. I will have had my other tests and other doc appointments by then. He said then we start the process with the insurance. So wish me luck.
There is not enough words in our language to express how wonderful I think Dr. Sabback is. My first wisit with him was Feb 7, 2002. As most of us who struggle with our weight, I has terrified to go see a doctor about it. I took a friend with me for moral support. He immediatly made us BOTH comfortable. He gave me a booklet, asked me a ton of questions, answered all my questions. He even comforted me when I saw he diagnosis of me was super mordid obesity, I cried. He told me not to worry, it's all going to change. His staff is out of this world. Each one of them work very hard for you. People don't realise how hard it is to schedule surgery. I am an RN and have to do that and you just cannot "pick" a day. I wanted mine in April, but there was no way around it. Jean worked very hard to get me a date and when she did she called me. I think she was as excited as I was!!
I love that Dr. Sabback is conservative. He takes NO chances. His surgical ability is top notch!
Now 8 weeks post op, I know he is there for me no matter what. He answers each and every question I have, he gives me suggestions, he lets you know you are not alone...he's right there with you. And as far as payment goes, I have excellent insuraunce, I only owe him a little bit of money. His staff says right out, pay when you can. This Doctor is not in this for the money!! He does this because he sees our heart aches and he wants to help. God Bless Dr. Sabback and his staff.
My first impression of Dr.Sabback was a
positive one. He answered all my questions.
I feel he is a very sincere Christian and
that means so much to me. His staff is great.
Jean and all the others have been so very
helpful( since I called them so often).
After my first visit he talked with my
husband and made him feel better about this
decision.
When I went to my first consultation with Dr. Sabback he was very friendly. His first statement was a joke. My Step-mom went with me and he looked at her and said I guess you are Mrs. Lucas. Mind you my step-mom weights about 140 lbs. soak and wet. He broke the ice very well. He was kind and understanding and I appreciate the fact that he did not discount the urgency of my problems. His staff was very friendly and personable. I did not feel that I was in a stranger's office. I felt as if I knew them my whole life. His emphasis on aftercare was very strong. It is important that you realize going into his office that this is a life changing operation that will take a lifetime of commitment. He was very honest about the risks in the surgery he explained them to me in laymans' terms and made sure I understood the facts. Overall I feel Dr. Sabback rates tops in my book. I feel his bedside manner and surgical competence were both above standards. I felt very comfortable but remember this was my first visit and first impressions can sometime be decieving. I pray not in this case.

You know, I just have to say that I really think Dr. Sabback is a great guy! I had a huge list of questions and sat down and talked with him yesterday and went over all my concerns. He is a very polite, kind hearted man and I have all the faith in the world that I'm not going to have any problems with the surgery. His staff is also very polite and accomodating. The only one thing I would gripe about is that I really think that they need to get a scale that goes larger than 350. But other than that, I think the whole office staff ROCKS!

I am now proceeding with insurance approvals and testing with Dr. Sabback. I feel quite confident that he can do the job well! I especially liked the fact that I met him at a one on one appointment as opposed to the big 30 person group setting. It made me feel like he would be a little more in tune to my personal needs as his patient. His office staff seem very helpful. I hope that they will be aggressive with my insurance group while in the process of getting approvals.
My first impression of Dr. Sabback was peace and calming. He revealed that he had been performing this surgery for 25 years and I was greatly encouraged by that. My opinion of him has not wavered at all. His office staff is very sensitive to the overweight patient, taking time with me as I desire or need. Dr. Sabback is committed to after-care and stresses it's importance over and over. He addressed the risks of surgery verbally and also gave me pamphlets and books to read. I am a nurse and was aware of some of the risks, but he did not treat me like a nurse, he gave me education as if I knew nothing about the procedure. I would rate Dr. Sabback's surgical competency as excellent; however, his bedside manner is a bit dry, business-like. He gets his point across and does not include humor in his discussions. However, I would highly recommend him to anyone 100%.
Very Christian and soft-spoken gentlemen - thorough in his tests - I have a nickel allergy so he referred me to an allergist to be sure about the titanium staples. His staff has been available to me every time I call even checking with Dr. Sabback while I was on the phone - that really helped me decide - I want someone, especially the nurse or doctor, to be available. So far, Jean [his insurance person] has been most helpful getting all the necessary paperwork together. It is a process. All tests and lab work points to a favorable decision.
