He was very nice, understanding, and listened to what
I had to say. When the surgery date came, he asked me a
question that scared me to death, but made me realize the
seriousness in which he took his job, and in which I needed
to take this surgery. He asked if I agreed that I would not
eat any solid foods for 6 weeks. I said, "sure", kind of
matter factly. He told me that if I did not answer yes to this
question and agree to it that he would not perform the surgery.
The reason was, that if I did eat solids before the 6 weeks, I
would end up right back on the table, and he would not do that.
I appreciated the directness. The staff was great. There was
nothing that I did not like about him. I think anyone who decides
to have him is lucky. He is very experienced and will answer all
your questions, he even has a sense of humor. Ask him everything
you are concerned about, he will be honest and make sure you
understand. He is one that pushes sticking to the rules. They
were written for a reason, they work, and they protect you from
having complications. You may still have some, but your chances are
much better if you follow the directions they outline. As for the
risks of surgery, they were honest about it, but also compared it
to other surgeries. He is a 10 in my book. He is both competent, and
has a great bedside manner. He also treats you has a person and
not just another paycheck.

I think he is great! He knows how to explain information so that anyone can understand it. I have seen him twice so far. I like him very much. He sits right down and asks if you have any questions. He wants to be sure that you know what is going on and is more than willing to listen to any concerns you may have.

When Dr. Bistolarides first walk into the room, I thought to myself "O'My he's a kind of plump, then i wondered within myseld if he has had the surgery or if he's going to have the surgery". He came in the room introducing himself. Dr. Bistolarides was very professional and he answered all of my questions . The Second time that i met with Dr. Bistolarides i feel it was much more pleasant than the very first time. He seemed to be very relaxed and I must say very pleasant to talk with. I was Pleased to have Dr. Bistolarides as my surgeon. In fact, tfhe whole staff was extremely kind and they all were so patience with me. It didn't matter how many times a day that I called they were always pleasant with me. I would rate Dr. Bistolarides on a scale of 1 - 10, I would rate him as a nine. He was fantastic! In fact, I am telliing everyone that I can about the overall services that i recieve from the Bariactric Treatment Center in Ann Arbor, MI. I'm recommending everyone that I know want to have this surgery to go through the BTC.
I thank God everyday for
Dr. P. Bistolarides, for I have a second chance at enjoying a healthier life again.

I was very impressed with Dr. Bistolarides. He answered all my questions, and seemed concerned with the extent of my medical problems and my need for this surgery. He was very concerned about getting all clearences he thought necessary to be sure the surgery would be done safely. I thought his office staff was competent and friendly.

When I first met him i liked him.... he answered all the questions that i had prepared and my husbands questions also...The office staff on the consult was awsome!.... I am now over 4wks into the "GREAT WAIT" my paper work is at blue cross in review. This is the hadest part....Will they or won't they aprove me!!!!
I have been in contact w/ Michelle, she is the Insurance contact i have at BTC. It really seems like it's all a joke to her..... "well your still in review, we'll call them in TWO WEEKS, I'm on it"... HA<HA<HA.... I could do with out the laugh... After i spoke to her yesterday, i had to stop and have a good cry.... she's probably a twig and has always been one....
But the people who are working there who have had this done can really understand. By the way according to BTC, Blue cross usually takes 35 days to appove! and they only give out three answers when called for status. Approved, Denied, or in review.... COME ON!............. Really!

Very good. Spent 45 minutes with me.

He was less friendly when I was in the hospital. Very terse and to-the-point.

Office staff helpful and friendly. Great counseling.

He did an excellent job doing my surgery. I think that is the most important thing.

Says aftercare is very important.

Great emphasis on aftercare.Monthly support meetings with teaching and recipes. We bring food and eat afterwards.

Explained in details and drew pictures

If I had to choose between surgical competence or bedside manner I would chose surgical competence.

He was to the point and direct. He let me know what to expect and that was that.

My impression of him has not changed, he is a serious surgeon with a serious job to do.

The staff at the BTC in Ann Arbor were very kind and considerate. Also, staff at the hospital were great!

He is a great and very respected surgeon by patients and his staff.

He and the other staff are concerned with making sure you attend follow up visits post surgery.

During my initial meeting he informed me of the risks and benefits in detail. He said it would not be easy and the pain will be present.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 the best, I would say 9.

Probably surgical competence is more important. I didn't deal with him that much and I like the fact that he is one of the best in his field. His social skills did lack some, but it did not effect my surgery.

Just following surgery as they took my from the OR, I had terrible muscle spazms in my chest. They could be compared to a leg cramp, but worse and they are in your chest. I was in aweful pain and I screamed for help. The Dr. scolled me and said I should be quite and I was just making them worse. I was pretty angry with him. That was the last I dealt with him. The nursing staff helped me get through the pain and discomfort. He's a doctor and has that "DR." attitude. He is known as a serious surgeon with some bedside manner, well that may be, but at least my surgery was down in good hands. This is just my experience and my trauma. I would recommend him for sure.

This surgeon was very thorough, he knew this procedure inside and out. Didn't do any type of soft shoe dance. Answered questions directly. Immediately felt confident that he was my surgeon. (just before surgery, we were kidding around with each other, so I do know he has a good personality also!)

At first, I felt as though I was just another appointment, but then, after the consultation got underway, all that changed. I felt as though I was being treated as a person, and that meant alot to me. I felt the staff at BTC in Ann Arbor were a bit "unfriendly", but no major problems arose. I felt very comfortable with Dr. B, and feel he explained the procedure very well to me. He is a fine surgeon, and I will be eternally grateful to him. I do, however, think the bedside manner could be improved upon.
