Raul Mirande Bariatric Surgeon

Dr Mirande, is a wonderful doctor, he cares about his patients as if he were their friend. Dr. Mirande saved my self esteem, my life and my marriage. The office staff was great to work with and was always availble when I needed anything. I would recommend Dr. Mirande to anyone needing any surgerical procedure, I reffered my own mother to him and he has performed four surgeries on myself and was wonderful.

Dr. Mirande is very caring and understanding of his patients needs he has a great bedside manner as I have been told by my very good friend who had this surgery through him. At his seminars he is very thorough to make sure everyone understands the info. he gives about the surgery and he answers all questions. He is very easy to talk to his staff is some of the most caring and understandably nice people I have ever met and delt with. He is wonderful.

Wow!!!This was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life picking the surgeon the person that is going to change my life,the person i am going to be bonded with for the rest of my life!!!! I for once made the right decision. My first impression of Dr. Mirande was that he tells it as it is , NEVER suger coating here so if you need a reality check you will get it ! his bed side manner was great you can always reach him . I had some difficult times why i was in the hosptial for 12 days and he never let me down even as today i am 6 months out and have been threw the ringer he never treats me as just another patient he is alway personable, this man saved my life in more was then one i trust him fully. Dr. Mirande is very strict about his after care he will be your doctor for life!! He is also a general surgeon so his knowlege of the hole body is a big pluse to me and that is what came in handy that saved my life so i would think about that when you pick a doctor, you never know what is or could happen on a or table and you need to trust your doctor.

Dr Mirande is a fantastic doctor! He was always very thorough and patient right from the very beginning. I gave him a scare the first time I went for surgery, he opened me up and found liver cancer. I was treated for the cancer and was able to go back and have the gastric bypass surgery a year later. He is extremely knowledgeable and is hard enough on his patients to help them keep doing the right thing!

I first saw Dr Mirande at a seminar in Redding CA. I liked him right away. His straight forward manner was the first thing I noticed and liked. He isn't one to sugar coat anything. I felt comfortable right away. His eye contact is very good and makes you feel important and not just another number. I returned from my Surgery consult just today Jan 5,2005. He had a group meeting with three others and went over the whole surgery and all the possible complications. This was folled by a dietician who explained how we would be eating for the rest of our lives. I then had a one on one appointment with him. I never once felt rushed. He answered all my questions and encouranged my mother to also ask questions. I have had other surgerys in the past and never have I had a surgery who had such a good manner and way of speaking.

I am now three weeks post op. I have had zero problems. At my week follow up I had the drain removed and Dr Mirande went over everything I needed to know for the next several weeks. Three days ago I was experiencing pain. I called the number given by Dr Mirande. I recieved a return phone call in less than 2 minutes. I was amazed and shocked at such fast return. I did have to see a local doctor but that doctor was in touch with Dr Mirande. I have never known of a doctor who returned calls this quickly. Amazing Surgeon!

First met Dr. Mirande in Redding at a seminar. Very knowledgeable. He was not afraid of my multiple co-morbid diseases, the big one being pulmonary hypertension, along with HTN, diabeties, GERD, psorasis, psoratic arthritis (PA) and liver disease caused by a medication I took for PA.

I saw him in his office on 1/5/05 for pre-op exam and a through explaination of everything that has happened in any baratric surgery, along with his stats.

The staff was great, the dietician gave us lots of tips for post-op.

He stresses the aftercare, you are his patient for life, not the usual, see ya! that most surgeons do after you are done.

He is available 24/7. As of today, I rate him a 10. I will let you know the rest after surgery.

I thank the Lord for sending me to Dr. Mirande, the timing was perfect.

Dr. Mirande was very friendly and honest.
Each time I met with him he took the time to answer all my questions and gave me more information. He always makes you feel good about yourself and is supportive of the decisions you are making.
The office staff are all extremely friendly, caring and personable. Mary is great.
Dr. Mirande is a true professional, he has given me a knew life.
He is very informative and encourages you to ask questions and makes sure you understand everything he has explained.
He wants to be involved in aftercare, forever. He stays in touch with his patients.
He encourages everyone to stay involved in the support groups and when he is in town doing informative seminars, he will always meet with his patients afterwards to discuss any issues.
He tells you every risk involved with surgery and after surgery. He keeps no secrets.
He is a remarkable surgeon. I had the best care at Merle West, and his bedside manner couldn't be any better. He is your surgeon and your friend. Thank god for him. He went into this area of medicine to help all of the obese people kie myself get a second chance. I am forever thankful to him.

He listens to you; will answer any and all questions, no matter how silly you may think they are; cares about you. Office staff was usually available.

Dr. Mirande was very very concerned about aftercare. He stressed it over and over again. He had created a packet of information to give to each patient, which covered all stages of post-op.

He emphasized risks.

I thought he was an excellent surgeon, and I feel he has a great beside manner.

I haven't heard any negative criticism of Dr. Mirande. He has seminars in my area frequently and explains the procedures to roomsful of people about every 3 months.

Nice. Once I got to know him he is beyond nice he is terrific. What a caring guy. He really practices what he preaches. His staff is very nice and helpful. There is nothing I don't like about him. He means what he says. He really emphasizes after care. Yes, he does have structured after care and follow up. Addresses the risks of surgery directly. I would rate him as a 10 plus!!!!

Very through, very knowledagable about the surgery. He has done probably by now 1000+ .
It has been 10 months since my surgery and he is still very involved with my progress.
His office staff is very good, organized, sometimes a little forgetfull, But always returns your calls.
I personally like everything, he is very strict and expects you to follow his advise and practices.
That he will give excellent care long after the surgery. He is always available by pager and answers you calls.
Aftercare is extremely important, support groups are must....
Very structured aftercare plan
Risks were openly discussed and answered plainly. #12... His surgical competence was great.. his bedside was a little abrupt..but not to the point you would say it was bad.
