He is very down to earth, friendly, answers all your questions no matter how many you have....even encourages you to write your questions down beforehand so you won't forget them.
I first met Dr. Benavides at a LapBand seminar at the Surgery Center of Richardson. He presented as a professional and confident surgeon. My opinion has not changed. His office staff is young and do not seem to be as knowledgeable about Banding as I would have expected, yet his assistant, Jody, is very pleasant, reassuring and knowledgeable. Dr. Benavides gives you direct instructions, confirms those in writing, and tells you like it is. I like that. I know several people that have used Dr. B and I would recommend him.
First impression was excellent. Nice, kind and very patient with everyone. Office staff has been extremly helpful.
My first impression was great , I told him up front that I was a nurse ,but he still said he wanted to explain things so that my husband could understand. I know all ( maybe too much)That I need to know about laparoscopic surgery ,but my husband did need to know.He was very supportive the day of surgery asked If I had any last minute questions, Surgery was a breeze. Of course I see his partner Dr.Maese for all the post op fills etc.. and he is wonderful , very busy but knowledgable.Future patients need to know that they need to make an appt. with Dr. Maese for cardiac clearance first .He emphasizes aftercare as being very important ,there are postop visits ,but no group support.Risks of surgery were clearly identfied. He is a wonderful doc I would use him again if I still needed a doc.I chose him because of the large amounts of lapband procedures he has done ,but now I know that his bedside care and expertise is comendable.
i had my consult with his partner dr mease. the only thing bad i could say about him was that his office is very hectic and you have to wait a looong time because he also is a cardiologist and the office is packed. he seemed very capable and knowledgable and he is very confident. i live three hours away so dr benevides will meet me on may 3 for a consult with him and final bloodwork and tests. then i will have the surgury may 4. they recomended i stay in dallas so i will be at holiday inn on the third and forth. my surgury is outpatient but they want you to stay in town in case you need to see him the next morning. dr mease will handle my fills and aftercare.
i haven't actually met with dr. benavides yet. i had consultation with his partner, cardiologist dr. fred maese.
met dr. benavides for the first time at preop appt. on march 29. he's awesome. tells it exactly like it is. explains things to you in detail, answers all questions and gives you that positive, you're gonna do this attitude.
surgery was uneventful! he certainly knows his stuff. i've had absolutely NO pain from actual surgery; just pressure/discomfort from the gas they use. i had complete confidence in him and his ability and believe me, it wasn't misplaced. a true pioneer in AGBing!! God bless you dr. b!!
I have not met Dr. Benavides yet but have met Dr. Garwood and love him. My first impression was that he was a hard ass but by my second visit I felt he was very understanding and helpful. I look forward to my surgery and working closely with Dr. Garwood in my aftercare. Dr. Benavides does the surgery but his office is in Richardson, Texas now so my follow up care will be with Dr. Garwood at least that is how I understand it.

I first met Dr. Benavides the day before surgery. You know, when you are already hanging off the ceiling due to nerves and anticipation? Dr B was incredible. He is very charming and had a calming effect on me. My respect and admiration for him continues to grow each day.
You can find out about Dr. Benavides and his group at bandnewlife.com. First you meet with a Primary Physician named Dr.Fred Maese, he is a cardiac specialist and i loved him from the start. I had went to another place and it just wasn't for me but from the very first meeting i felt comfortable and enthused by Dr. Maese. They have a helpful staff who help with insurance and with financing if your insurance doesn't cover the surgery. The best thing about them, they actually seem to care and really make you feel excited about your future. I loved that. After you get that settled, it is easy to make a surgery date and meet for a pre-op visit with Dr. Benavides. he is just as nice and his office staff is also wonderful. I actually had the Lap Band surgery done at the Surgery Center of Richardson, not in college station. Dr. Benavides has an office in the Dallas are also. One thing Dr. Benavides stresses is the importance of you being motivated to have a lifestyle change and to keep up with post-op visits. He has a long list of surgical experience which made me very comfortable. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone!!
