On the fist visit I was very nervous, but the nurse and DR. Cacchione soon put me to ease. Dr. Cacchione and his staff were very nice and polite to me and my mother.
He ansered all of my questions that I had and belive me I had 2 pages typed out. He was able to answer everyone of them. He also had us to watch film on the 2 tyes of surgery . Then he schelded me to have an echo of my heart done and told me to see a psy. and nutriontist to make sureI was mentally able and know what kind of lifstyle changes I would have to make . H e told me that when this all was done to call and make an appointment to come back.
On this visit we went overthe test results of the. He told me i was mentally and phsycially able to go through the surgery. He then proceded to tell me about the type of surgery that I choose and it is gastic by pass. He explained to me how long the surgey would be and what to except after the surgery. An explained some of the after care and the possible side effects. He then asked me if i had any questions. and if not we wer done for the time beging. All we are waiting on is the ok from my insurace and it is madicale and he said there should be no troulbe with it cause of my medical condtion now and my family history. i hope ths helps spme one out there. rhonda

Dr. Cacchione is a pleasant man. He is very knowledgable and takes time to answer any and all of your questions. I have met with him twice now. We are shooting for May to have my surgery...he says probably even sooner. I highly recommend him!

I made the call to set my very first appointment. The soonest I could get is 6 months away(August 2003)! But the woman who made my appointment said I will have plenty to do between now and then...plus I can call once a week to check for cancellations.

I would love to have an angel to guide me throught this thing. I am very nervous already.

I called Dr. Cacchione after moving to Kentucky in June. I had made the decision to try to see into this surgery when it became difficult to get things packed and unpacked, etc. I was kind of disappointed at how long it took to get a first appointment with him or any one in the office. I waited 6 1/2 months for a first appointment.
I made the initial appointment and the staff seemed uptight and busy ( overworked maybe). That was over the phone. The day for the appointment came around and I was kind of anxious. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful and answered all of my questions very kndly. They scheduled an appointment with a psycologist and a nutritionist within 2 weeks of my first appointment. (This is mandatory if you see Dr. Cacchione and is VERY helpful when the insurance company sees that it is done...some insurance co. insist that this be done anyway) and then I was seen by Dr. Cacchione one week after that. So after the first appointment they are very quick to get things rolling.
Principal Health (life) Insurance had an answer to me THE DAY THEY RECIEVED THE DR.'S REQUEST!!) I am told that it is very rare that the insurance co acts that fast. Dr. Cacchione had told me that his office would have the request for authorization sent to the insurance company within two days after my second visit. Well, it actually took close to 3 weeks for his office to get it to the insurance company. After I was told by Principal that I had been approved, I called Dr. Cacchione's office and was still treated like I was bothersome and they were too busy to deal with me. I really didnt like that treatment.
I have had to hound the Dr.'s office...not the insurance company... for answers. Seven days after I was approved I had to call the nurse and see if I can be scheduled for surgery. Dr. cacchione said that scheduling surgery wouldn't be a problem and they can ususally schedule me within 2 weeks of approval. Well they couldnt schedule me until 4 weeks after. I have been really frustrated because I need to plan...take time off work, my husband needs to take time off work, etc.
Over all it looks like Princiapl Health has been very helpful and the Dr.'s office has been unhelpful.
Dr. Cacchione is VERY knowledgeable and makes you feel at ease. He is a very good Dr. He has kept me well informed and has an excellent aftercare program.
Overall I have to say that things could have been better with the Dr.'s staff's phone manners, but my experience has been fairly good.

I thought Dr. Cacchione was great. He was extremely polite during my initial exam (June 10th). He took the time to explain the surgery in detail and asked if I had questions.

Because I'd answered affirmative on one of the pre-op questionaires, Dr. Cacchione scheduled a colonoscopy to make sure nothing was wrong with my colon. He didn't want to be in the middle of the operation and discover something major. :) And yes, I understand this, but damn it was frustrating to have to go through bowel prep on my birthday (June 18th) for the colonoscopy and again the following Monday for a barium enema. (He didn't want to finish the colonoscopy because I was in such discomfort.)

His staff were nice, I've only been once so I don't know them on a first-name basis.

During the initial consultation, I was scheduled to meet a psychologist and was given orders to meet a dietician (which I did today.)

I'll leave you more after I really get into the surgery process. :)

8-2-02 Dr. Cacchione's office really is excellent. Once you're a returning patient, you don't have to wait as long for appointments. I called today and could have gotten in Monday (conflicted with work) so I scheduled for the following Monday. There are many offices where you'd still have to wait for an appointment (waiting almost 2 monthsjust to get a checkup with my allergist whom I've been seeing for 3 years.) My next appointment I'm going to talk about my insurance and his experience (or the office staff's) with my insurance company. :)

I really do like him, my second impression was much better than the first. I can't wait to have surgery now.

Dr. Cacchione is amazing. I never knew what time to expect him in to visit me. He came in at different times, definitely showing that he works some odd hours. :)
What can I say about him? I really like him. He's professional and caring.

I have an appointment in 2 weeks. :)

The first time that I met Dr. Cacchione, I felt that he was very informative. He was not rushed and took the time to answer all of my questions. Over time, I found him to be very personable and very caring. He was not grossed out by my obesity at all. I think that he was probably a little shy as a child because I can see that tendency there. But if you reach out to him, he will reciprocate. I highly recommend him to anyone.

As far as aftercare, I have had my 2wk post-op visit and will be seeing him monthly for awhile. I have not inquired as to an actual structured aftercare program.

He did address the risks of surgery, but it is also important for the patient to be prepared with questions. He sees so many patients that I am sure that he may skip some issues but is sure to hit the most important ones.

I would rate him a 10. No one is perfect, but he's a very competent.

11/05/2001 I had my initial consult today! I was supposed to see Dr. Allen but I saw Dr. Cacchione instead. My first impression was that he seemed very comfortable, unrehearsed
and knowledgeable. My appt. was for 9:00 and I got there about 8:30!I was the only patient in the wating room, when I came out of the exam rooms it was a different story!

His staff seemed attentive and were friendly yet professional.I took my list of questions and referred to them only once because he answered them during the course of conversation.During a brief physical exam,he too was professional and assured me that if I adhered to the rules,I too would lose weight and could meet even surpass my goal wt.(75% of my current wt.)My IDEAL wt. is 164,that's what I am shooting for.He explained the risks involved, even though I told him I'd reviewed his packet and "live" on this website! Now,I am waiting for my echo and sleep study results to be faxed to him as well as the Psych.and Nutritionist evaluations which are scheduled for 11/12 and 11/21.After that I will meet again for surgery date.
He also recommended Gastric Bypass as opposed to Banding FOR ME due to a number of reasons, mainly my ins.(Medicare and Medicaid)will not pay for banding.I am Medicare primary due to disability so those of you who have such know that you are probably in a good position having this insurance. No hassles with pre-authorization as long as you have documented co-morbidities or BMI above 40.
Overall I'd rate them a 9.5(he'll get the other .5 two years from now when I am wearing my high school prom dress)out of 10.
Surgical competence AND bedside matter are important.I want my doctor to have the skills
to perform surgery efficiently and safely while being able to interact with his patients as people, not dollar signs. The only negative experience I had TODAY was getting on the exam table(muscle spasms)and not seeing Dr.Allen whom I'd expected to see, however I may have misunderstood in my overwhelming excitement exactly who I'd be seeing. All that matters to me is that whoever performs the surgery, that he be safe,
sure of his ability and procedure and confident in himself and outcome of his work.'Til next time, take care everyone and God Bless.

I met Dr. Cacchione in August, he was very nice and made me feel very comfortable in my decision to have the surgery. His staff was very nice and helpful in helping me get my approval. Future patients should be aware of what they want done, and make sure they have given their decision lots of thought and consideration befor they just make a decision to jump into it.

Dr. Cacchione is very nice and helpful. He answers any kinds of questions or concerns you have. I have been researching surgery options for years now and he has been very helpful in finding the right options for me.

Most of his staff is excellent. They have been very patient with my insurance problems and very understanding with my frustrations and my frequent phone calls.
