He is very young, very professional, very caring.rnrnMy impression of him did not change over time; I always felt I was in good hands.rnrnOffice Staff is GREAT!!rnrnI have nothing bad to say.rnrnHe is great Dr; I would recommend him to anyone.rnrnHe and the staff emphasizes on aftercare.rnrnThey do have a structured aftercare program rnrnHe is very upfront about the risks of surgeryrnrnI would rate Dr Marvin his staff and the staff at renaissance Hospital 110% they all are Fantastic!rn

My first impression was the seminar...very knowlegable and professional but somewhat cold. But very assured. After my meeting with him personally, I realized he had the approach to banding that I needed. It isn't about changing to a liquid diet or protien shakes, but about learning to eat properly like normal healthy people. I loved that. His bedside manner was nice, but not solicitous. I don't feel that I will have an extended relationship with him, but rather his office staff. He is adamant re: aftercare, but it is provided by his staff and his PA. I wish there were a stronger support for the Lapband, it seems that everyone there is more involved and supportive of the bypass, except for Dr. Marvin. He seems to be supportive of both. He was very informative and throurough discussing the risks, and wanted to make sure that I understood them. Overall, I think Dr. Marvin is a wonderful surgeon, and in a surgeon of course competence is the most important thing. I am not sure how I feel about the follow up care, as I am just a few days post op. But again, I don't think the surgeon is very involved in the follow up. It is difficult for me to adjust to this, as I have always developed a relationship with my providers; but one must remember that a surgeon is a surgeon, not a GP.

I first met Dr. Marvin at one of the information sessions. He was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. That impression has not changed. His office staff is wonderful- I have never had to wait longer than 2 minutes to be seen for an appointment. They essentially did everything for me- just told me where and when for pre-op info/appointments. They are great. Dr. Marvin is one of The Methodist Hospital's surgeons doing WLS. They have combined support group meetings once a month. Dr. Marvin's office also has newsletters and patient parties and things like that, which I think will be fun. I had done a lot of research on what I wanted and what the risks were, so I didn't have many questions for him. He covered the risks in both the info session and then also again at our one-on-one appointments. Discussed each risk both in general, and then also the number of times it had happened to his patients. Discussed the risk %- so 2% of his patients had a band slip and had to have that fixed, that sort of thing. He was very upfront and I appreciated his candor. Bottom line for me, which I knew and he told me- is that the risk of staying the weight I am is much greater than the risk of WLS. Overall, I would rate him highly and recommend him and his office. He has a great MD that assists him with pre and post op visits, Dr. Woerhman. She is wonderful, as well. I believe him to be very surgically competent and also to have a great surgical bedside manner. The only downside is one that applies, I believe, to all surgeons (and docs in general, really)- you just don't see them that often. I saw Dr. Marvin at the info session, then worked exclusively with his office staff and Dr. Woerhmann until my pre-op visit one week before surgery. I saw him for about 5 minutes before my surgery- and I will see him at my post-op visit next week. Surgeons are busy people. I have found this to be true of the surgeons that worked on my children (heart and ear surgeries), too. This is not a problem for me, but may be something to consider. Overall, however, very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Fine print: Please note that these are my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience.

Dr. Marvin is great. I had my surgery in December 2006 ( I know, I am a little late in posting--better late than never right!! ) If I have said it once, I have said it a hundred time since my surgery, I wish everyone could have the experience I have had with WLS. From the beginning, the care has been amazing.

Dr. Marvin is a very young, dynamic and confident doctor. He is very well informed and very qualified in his specialty. He continues to impress me. His office staff is very supportive and also extremely informed. They are specialized at every stage before surgery, and following surgery. They are committed to the follow-up care and support that WLS patients need to be successful. I would rate Dr. Marvin and the staff at OSS as exceptional. I have recommended several other WLS patients and everyone has had great success. I have absolutely no reservations with recommending Dr. Marvin and his staff at OSS to other patients who are considering WLS. Surgical competence is far more important that bed side manner, however, if the physician is too difficult to talk to or seems uninterested in the welfare of the patient, his surgical skills won't matter, because people will look somewhere else for treatment.rnrnThe only concern I have is with the direction of some of the support groups. There seems to be a tremendous focus on the official spokesperson who's main job is marketing and not particularly good at providing the type of patient support that I desire. The PA and dietitian are better for support group.

I was wowed by Dr. Marvin when he gave a presentation on gastric bypass and lap-band during one of the information sessions with Obesity Surgery Specialists. I knew then that I wanted him to be my surgeon. He was young and managed to seem both professional and approachable. Over time I still maintained this impression.rnAlthough I really liked Dr. Marvin, I was even more impressed with his office staff. I loved how Jeremy, the insurance coordinator, took care of everything insurance related for me. I'm only 18 and have never dealt with insurance before so it was a relief not having to do everything myself. Everyone in the office was incredibly friendly and helpful. rnI suppose my primary complaint about my process is that I couldn't get any testing done during the 1 month time period I waited to hear back from the insurance company. In my pre-op testing the week before surgery, my ultrasound revealed gall stones and a fatty liver. If I'd been able to do this testing sooner, I could have been put on a diet that would decrease the size of my liver. But that didn't happen so when Dr. Marvin first saw my liver, he was almost afraid of doing the surgery. To quote him, I had \"the biggest liver he had ever seen\", and he's done 900+ surgeries. If I'd known about this problem I would have been more than happy to help fix it prior to surgery. rnI would say that in my experience, surgical competence is more important than bedside manner because hopefully the surgeon has a wonderful staff like Dr. Marvin did who will be there with you. If Dr. Marvin were not the wonderful surgeon that he is, my surgery may not have happened. rn

I've only met him briefly. He was at the seminar I went to in April 2006. He was very cordial and answered all questions confidently. I'll have personal vistis with him now that I have been approved. His office staff is wonderful. When I met with the dietician, it was with a group of other patients. I did not feel comfortable talking about my weight issues in front of other people, so she agreed to meet with me one-on-one. The insurance coordinator was extemely kind and professional, I think she was as happy as I was that I got approved!rnrnOkay,....Dr. Marvin is.....brilliant, professional, and cute as a bug's ear! (smile) His staff is wonderful, I'll always remember what he told me at my pre-op visit......I was so nervous, and I guess he sensed it. He told me, \"the risk of the surgery is less than the risk of you remaining at your present weight.\" After that statement, my fear was all but gone.
