I'm having my surgery through Obesity Surgery Specialists on 4/18/05. I'm delighted to say that I'm very confident with Dr. Robert Marvin's abilities, as well as the professionalism shown to me by his staff.rnrnDr. Marvin was very straightforward with me about what to expect, both before and after surgery, as well as what to look for that might point to complications.rnrnMy overall impression of both the doctor and his staff, was that I am in very good care.rnrnWhen it comes to surgical competence, bedside manner, or both, I believe that both come into play. If a doctor has a great bedside manner, but I am not confident in his abilities, it will be stressful for me. On the flip side, if I am confident in his abilities, but am not pleased with his bedside manner, I am going to be uncomfortable. For this reason, I believe a doctor needs to possess both.

At the beginning I was very afraid of the idea of having a loss weight surgery, one day one of my co-workers MICHELLE HOWARD told me that she was seeing Dr. Robert Marvin here in Houston and she was ready to have surgery, thereafter she came back to work and she was a different person, she then started to tell me how wonderful was the office staff and the doctor, I was very impressed with her testimonial about all this, I then went ahead and went to visit the office as well and I was able to confirm that this was true on my own.rnOn 12/05/2006 I was admitted for surgery, I got the Lap Band and I have lost so far 18 pounds and I know that are many to go. I was 236 lbs when I was admitted in the program.rnI was also very impress with the human compassion that Dr. Marvin staff showed for me they are 1000% professionals and know what they are doing.rnThanks for be there for me, I am truly happy.rnThanks Angie, Terry, Zenia, Sonny,Darlene and Catherine for your respect and kindness you showed for me at alltimes.rnSincerely,rnRobin Aguilera

My first inmpression of Dr Marvin is that he is very nice. HIs staff was also very helpful. It is very important, I feel, to go into surgery feeling you are ready to make a change. I had the lap band and in 10 weeks have already lost 35 pounds. I would rate him and his staff a 9 on a scale of 1-10

I did a lot of research before making my appointment with Dr. Harberg. Once I met him I was very impressed. He's very professional and straightforward in his manner. I appreciated his honesty about my condition and how things will change after I've had the surgery.rnHis office staff was very helpful. They took care of all the insurance information and other arrangements that had to be made and were very prompt in calling me back once I had been cleared for surgery.rnI would highly recommend Dr. Harberg to others who are considering surgery. However, I might suggest that you know your health history and that of your family before you go in so that you can answer his questions completely and honestly. rnI will post more after the surgery. rnrn--------------------------------------rnUpdate: January 2004rnrnOn December 8th, 2003 I underwent surgery to revise my VBG to a gastric bypass. I was having major problems with my VBG: vomiting on a constant basis, not being able to eat, feeling as though my food never digested, and extremely bad gastric reflux. I spent over a year trying to get my insurance company to authorize a revision but it wasn't until I went to Dr. Robert Marvin's office in Houston that I finally had success. I first saw Dr. Marvin in September and was authorized for surgery in November. Dr. Marvin and his staff are incredible to work with. For once a doctor actually listened to what I had to say and took me seriously when it came to the symptoms I was having. He's a meticulous surgeon and a very nice person. I would recommend him to anyone.rnrnOne point that I would like to make here is this: if you've already had surgery and feel that something is wrong keep pushing until you get answers. Don't let doctors blow you off. I got so mad at Dr. Harberg after my two-week check up in 2000 that I never went back to him. It was ironic that I saw him in pre-op the morning I was going in for my revision and he also had a couple of patients up on the surgery floor where I was recovering. I wasn't worried that he'd remember me because he's too busy pushing his patients through a revolving door to care about anyone but himself. I've tried to tell people about how he operates but they don't listen. They soon learn that I, and a number of his former patients, are correct when we say it's a mistake to have him do surgery on you. Don't get me wrong, he's a decent surgeon. He just doesn't know how to take care of his patients after the fact.

My first impression of Dr. Marvin and his staff was that they had a \"we care\" attitude. My impression of him and his staff has not changed. His staff is very helpful and knowledgable. There is nothing I can say in a negative way about Dr. Marvin or his staff. Future patients shoild know that the staff is here for us whenever we need them. They are very \"on top\" of the aftercare. Dr. Marvin was very open about the risks of this type sugery. I would rate this overall expeirence as a very positive one. No complaints!!
