Sidney Appel Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Redmond is leaving Georgia, moving to Texas, so he is in the process of closing his practice.
So I had to do the surgeon search again and found Dr. Appel. He performs the open RNY and accepts Medicare. The two primary qualifiers I have.
I've since found that he has performed thousand of the RNY's and has a wonderful success record.
I now have a date for the inital 3-4 hr consultation with him. I'm thrilled. I've been on this journey for 7 months and I finally have a date to meet the surgeon.

My Husband and I went to the group meeting in Jan of 2002. When I first went to him he just tells u what is going to happen, he is very honest with how serious this is going to be. Then the first time I saw him after the surgery in the hospital, he was different. It was like he was very happy for me that I had done this and he knew I was going to be a changed person. HE WAS Right. My life has changed. I am loosing weight and have become a new grand mother in just a little bit of time. THANK U DR. APPEL. You have giving me my life BACK. Arlene Smith

MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS HE IS MILD MANNERED. ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS @ GROUP CONSULTATION.
I HAVN'T HAD THE SURGERY YET. STILL IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING APPROVED BY INS. THE STAFF ID VERRY COOPERATIVE BUT I HAVE THE CONTACT SYSTEM. LEAVE A MESSAGE AND WAIT FOR A RETURN CALL. THIS TAKES PATIENTS.I HAVE NOT HAD A ONE ON ONE WITH DR.APPEL YET. I HAVE A COUPLE OF FRIENDS THAT HAD THIS DONE BY DR.APPEL AND I FEEL SAFE.

My first impression of Dr.Appel was that he is a very serious person. He has no bed side manner. He is straight forward and to the point and I love that about him. He sometimes cracks a joke but keeps talking and dictating into his little recorder with out cracking a smile. His office staff is wonderful. They always return my calls and answer any questions that I had without making me feel like I was being a pest.Dr.Appel does emphasize after care and is vert stern about it. He told me all the risks of surgery and he answered all of my questions. When it came time for my surgery I was very satisfied and well informed of everything that he expected from me and what I should expect from him and his office staff. Over all on a scale from 1 to 10 I give Dr.Appel a 100. I would choose surgical competence over bedside manner anyday.

My 1st impression of Dr. Appel was that he had a VERY dry sense of humor but extremely SMART! I have been waiting since 9-13-02 a little over a year but my date has finally arrived!! I am having surgery 9-29-03 at 11am and I can not wait. The thing that I liked the least was the follow up procedure that they have but I guess it is OK because it is well worth the wait. Dr. A gave me all the info I needed about the surgery and was open to answer any questions that I may have about the procedure good or bad. I have had 3 family members to go to Dr. Appel and they are all doing JUST GREAT. I can not wait for the out come of the surgery.

I love Dr Appel and his staff they are wonderful and take the time to respond to any questions that I or my family has had. My husband had some major concerns about the risks of having the surgery versus not having the surgery and he took time to talk to both of us openly and honestly. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Dr. Appel an 10

My first impression of Dr. Appel was that he has a dry sense of humor, which suits me well. He is very straight and to the point, a real no-nonsense kind of guy. He greatly stresses education on open gastric bypass and its risks and possible complications, as well as its advantages. His office staff is great, and April, the program assistant, or Kathy, the program manager, have always returned my calls promptly and have been very helpful and kind.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Appel as an excellent doctor.

He get's right to the point of things.
He answers all your questions.
All the office staff were very nice.I just dont like calling because it take's forever to get a phone call back.
Have'nt found nothing I didn't like.
He's finds out everything about you.
He emphasize's how important every pain is after surgery. He said to call him even if you think it's nothing, it's better to ask than to die.Your giving a diet and were to stick to it.
This is a risky surgery, and he tells you all and scares you. But that shows he cares about you.
I think he's great. He doesnt try to pull the wool over your eyes just to make a buck.
I haven't had the surgery as of yet , but I'm in line.
I've heard he's great surgical and not bedside. But I believe his personaly is (get to the point and get to action).
