DR.APPEL WAS A STRANGE GUY, HE LISTENED TO ALL WE HAD TO SAY, AND ANSWERED ALL THE QUESTIONS.
HIS OFFICE STAFF IS OK, I DONT LIKE HAVING TO CALL AND LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR SOMEONE TO CALL ME BACK. HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING REALLY CLEAR. ME AND 4 OTHER LADIES MET WITH HIM IN HIS OFFICE. SO WE ALL GOT TO TALK TOGETHER.
HE PLANS TO SEE ME AFTER SURGERY, AND TOLD US WHAT WE CAN AND CANT DO AFTER SURGERY. HE TOLD US THE THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN TO US. BUT THE RISKS WERE LOW.. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF BEING IN A CAR WRECK THAN THIS SURGERY HURTING ME. WHEN MEETING WITH DR APPEL FOR THE SECOND TIME DURING MY PRE-OP , HE WAS NOT IN THE BEST OF FRIENDLEY-NESS AS IVE EVER SEEN. HE WAS QUICK AND SHORT. THEY HAD MY PAPERS WRONG FOR THE WRONG SURGERY, THEY HAD MY DATE OF BIRTH WRONG, MAKEING ME 32. AND IM ONLY 25. AND THEN I HAD TO DEAL WITH SOME OTHER ISSUES WITH HIM. OVER ALL IN 1-100 , I GIVE HIM A 60, HOWEVER IT IS NOT HOW HE ACTS AT ME, AS MUCH AS I KNOW HE IS A GOOD SURGERON AND DOES GOOD WORK.

Dr. Appel is quite a character! He is a great surgeon- I owe my life to him! I can't thank him enough for the excellent care that I received from him!

Dr. Appel has a comical side to him- with a sort of dry humor! He would joke around with my husband and always made him feel very comfortable. I sometimes did not "get" his jokes. :)

The office staff is excellent! Kathy and April are the best! They are both very knowledgeable and on top of their job!

Dr. Appel is a very serious surgeon and he wants you to be informed before making your decision- because it does change the rest of your life.

Aftercare is stressed greatly- especially the vitamins and protein supplements. Be sure to take your vitamins!

Dr. Appel was very straight forward concerning the risks of surgery. He just spelled it out in big capital letters- there was no joking around that this is a very serious surgery. Actually it was quite scary.

I would rate Dr. Appel an A+ surgeon. And to me surgicial competence is of the most importance!

My 1st impression of him wasn't that great. He seemed very cold and distance with me.

To day my opinion of him hasn't changed. We have only had one meeting. I am looking forward to my next appointment with him.

The office staff is very nice and helpful.

I wish he was a little warmer at my 1st meeting with him.

He is hard core, but he has your best at hand. He is a super doctor to have.

Well, my opinion has changed over the last few months. Dr. Appel has nothing but the best interest in mind for his patients. Now i know this after so many months of working with him. He has done everything to keep me encouraged. The road work wasn't easy for me, but in the end worth every tear.

His nursing staff are really a bunch of great women. Who never make you feel less than a human full of love and support.

Surgical competence, bedside manner is good but has a dry sense of humor, very dedicated to his patients and once relationship is developed you will understand his personality.

dr appel can be funny, which is weird since i always thought he was a jerk. i work for another doctor's office and have had some interaction with him-and it was never wonderful. i am not in this for a best friend, i want the best surgeon and he is the best man for the job. (can i get an amen?)also, i love me some kathy & april. they have made this process seemless and i am very thankful for their hardwork. (way to get me scheduled oh so perfectly!)

Pre op- Dr. Appel has a very brusque personality. He is no-nonsense and his sense of humor, when it can be detected, it as dry as the Sahara. However, he seems extremely competent to me and everyone I've spoken to about him has very high regards for him. That's what's important to me.

Post op- I'm still glad that Dr. A did my surgery, however due to personality conflicts, I have stopped seeing him. I am now seeing Dr. Steinberg, one of Dr. Appel's associates for post-op care. He is a wonderful man!

My first impression about Dr. Appel was at the seminar my husband and I attended. He was so knowledgable about the gastric bypass any question that was asked he had the answer. He has done this for eighteen years. I felt like he could do mine with his eyes closed. My impression about doctor Appel only got better each time I saw him. Doctor Appel's staff was great. One lady sticks in my mine her name is Kathy Kemp. She was very nice and always answered all my questions.I think what people need to know about Dr. Appel is that he is a very thorough person. Aftercare program comes from your dietician and also your follow up with Dr. Appel, which is several times the first year.Dr. Appel told us right out the risk of surgery, He is a honest person and stright to the point.How I would rate Dr. Appel, Some one once told me he did not have a bed side manner and I was a little concerned about that when I first met him. But I found that not be true. He made me laugh a few times.I find Doctor Appel to be a great, Knowledgable,and fine doctor.Also just a wonderful blessed man.

I simply love Dr. Appel. I think he is hilarious contrary to what I have heard fromm most peole, he listens well and is very approachable.

His ofice staff (Kathy and April) are great as well.

They are a very busy practice but seem to have their ball rolling.

I met with Dr. Scott Steinberg on July 7 2004. He was great. I really did like him. He went over everything with me gave me as much time as I needed.
