Dr. Boyce is a very well-spoken, knowledgeable, weight-proportionate man. He looks like he takes care of himself, which was important to me when choosing a bariatric surgeon.
After meeting him, I felt completely comfortable placing my life in his hands. He is very concerned about his patients. He takes many precautions to ensure that there will not be complications after surgery.
He also makes himself very available, and is friendly. I don't feel like a product of a program, I feel like a personal project, that he wants to see me succeed with weight loss and maintenance.
I cannot think of anything that I do not like about Dr. Boyce. The only negative I can come up with is that he is usually behind schedule when seeing patients, so the office waits can get very long. But that is because he spends so much time with each patient, so after waiting for two hours, you get equal time with him. So be sure to bring a book when you go for an appointment. I feel that I made the best decision having him as a doctor.

Dr. Boyce is a wonderful understanding doctor. This impression has not changed from day one. His staff is quite large, but for good reason. Support team, meetings on every related subject, 24/7 availability to a nurse. They are very the best!! If you are looking for a quility care you should know about Dr. Boyce & the team.
When you have Premier for your team it does not end the day you do home, you can see Dr.Boyce free for 1 year. Aftercare is very important to this group. It is greatly emphasized & structured.
If anything Dr.Boyce has over addressed the possible risk. I would rate the entire staff a 10, if thats the highest number.
If I had to choice betewwn dedside manner and a competency of a doctor, it would be is competency. I'm lucky, he has both.

There is one issue, the cost that are not covered by our insurance. The Premeir Group has a fee of $3000.00, that is not covered. The insurance company said the after-care grogram, that is so important wasn't covered. We had to borrow the money.

I LOVE Dr. Boyce and his staff. Eugene and Johnnie were with me through the whole process, from getting insurance approval to the aftercare, which is emphasized just as much as pre-op is. On a scale of 1-10, I give Boyce 12!!! No regrets. I have nothing but positive things to say about him and his program.

I had attended Dr. Boyce's seminar in October 2003 and got an appointment for December. I was very nervous about this but after meeting him face to face he was very reassuring and helped to calm many of my fears. He was very honest about possible complications & what he does to help minimize them. He & his staff have an impressive post surgery care plan including 24 hour access to one of the R.N.'s by telephone for any problems you may have. A pre surgery "class" that tells you all about post surgery problems & how to deal with them, as well as, what to eat & how to tell when to stop, etc. I started reading info. about him online from his past patients & read nothing but good and even glowing comments about him. I feel I made the right choice in surgeons.

I have seen surgeon twice once for group meeting once for consult. During the consult he was interrupted on his cell and I had the feeling these consults were pretty boring for him. Next visit will be surgery day.Impression was of a person who liked being able to help people who others have written off and being able to cure with surgery such problems as diabetes etc.I am just glad a competent and experienced surgeon decided to provide this service in Knoxville. His office staff are excellent and appear to be genuinely caring earnest folks.Aftercare is greatly emphasized with a very structured aftercare program that was researched and based largely on the successes of other programs.Risks were well dilineated. I would rate him an A so far with surgical competence being more essential than bedside manner to me.He has set up his program to let his staff deal with patients emotional needs and questions which is fine with me.I am an RN and I know the nursing staff are usually better at that than most surgeons in my experience.

My first impression was a lasting one. I walked away from my consult with a very good feeling. He has an awesome bedside manner. He doesn't treat you like just another patient. He was very informative, as well as open and honest about WLS.
His office staff is very nice. Johnnie will be seeing me thru my WLS, as well as after. I like her alot. She is very compasionate.
Dr. Boyce really emphasizes aftercare as a big part of the overall process in losing weight.
The aftercare program seems like it will be most helpful in reaching the goals that you set for yourself.
He went over all the pros & cons of WLS & was very upfront & honest about the risks.
As far as rating Dr. Boyce, I would give him a "10". I know I have made the right choice in picking him as my surgeon.

Dr. Boyce seems like a great guy! He's very friendly, and he didn't seem alarmed when I came into the office slightly hypomanic (I suffer from Bipolar Disorder) He has a very detailed and required before and aftercare program, and he and his staff fights hard to assure insurance approval. He explained all of the risks involved, and even mentioned cases (Not name specific) where certain things occured, and how he evolved as a surgeon because of them. He's very upfront and honest, and I believe he knows what he is doing. I'd rate him a 10 overall, especially compared to the other surgeons I've visited - I need a certain type of person to "handle" me due to my mental illness, and he seems to understand that. I can't think of anything negative to say about him...The office staff was wonderful, he wants to cover every aspect of the surgery, do extensive pre-op testing, and make sure that surgery is the best option for you.

I think I've made an excellent choice in Dr. Boyce. He has a certain sincerity about him. I also found him to be very knowledgeable, compassionate and very easy to talk to. He went over what to expect before, during and after surgery in great detail. I would definately recommend him to anyone interested in Bariatric surgery.

I attended a seminar hosted by Dr. Boyce and his team on November 18, 2003. I had my packet of information completed by the seminar date and turned it into Eugene on that evening. I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Boyce and was able to have my consultation with him on December 17, 2003. I think Dr. Boyce is very knowledgeable and very trustworthy. He not only projected to my husband and I the pros of the surgery but also the cons. I think that type of doctor is the only type of doctor to have. If your doctor ever tells you everything will be just peachy it is time for a second opinion.

Dr. Boyce explained the entire procedure to my husband and I and took great concern with a medical condition I have unrelated to obesity.

At this point I couldn't imagine going to another doctor for this type of surgery and I am excited that Dr. Boyce is located here in Knoxville.

I went to the conferance on 12-02-03 and meet Dr.Boyce.

Today is 12-05-03 I now have a consultation date it is 1-14-04 I have had my blood work done.and I am ready to get started with the rest.

They have a aftercare program the cost is 3,000 dollars and insurance does not cover it.This aftercare includes:Oversight of your bariatric behavior modification program,Coordinating services related to your surgery,24 hour bariatric Hotline,Diet education,Exercise retraining initiated through 3 consultations with a personal trainer and use of exercise equipment for 90 days.He is very clear about the risk of surgery
