I have seen Dr. Marshall about 3 -4 times because I also saw him when he was my husband's surgeon for gastric bypass. I like him. He answered all my questions and (as my son said) he is very honest and outspoken.

The first time I went to see him for myself I asked about LAP rny. He told me he had only done 2. One was successful the other one had a leak and they had to open that person up.

Today (3/27/01) I saw him again.I again asked how many LAPs he has done so far and he said 4. But I like this guy. I am going to have the LAP with him on 4/11/01.

He did not waste anytime but asked if I had any questions and answerwed them all. Before he came in he had another Dr. come in to talk to me. He was really wonderful and unbelievable as a physician. He took so much time to answer questions and explain stuff.

My initial impression was that he was very brusque, not wasting any time with chit-chat. That impression hasn't changed, but as I talk to him more, he does appear to be interested, just always in a hurry. He has always answered my questions, which I write down before I go so that I don't forget anything. He has explained his strict post-op diet in detail, saying that the most important thing is to heal totally. I appreciate his candid answers. He only spent about 30 seconds after the surgery telling my husband the outcome, but since it was good, I guess that's all the time he needed. His staff is very friendly and helpful. I've called several times with questions and they always answer them, always call back promptly. His aftercare consists of a nutritionist from OSF St. Francis, who I have also called several times. She has been very helpful. I had my staples removed ten days after surgery, and I go back again for another visit one day after the 4 week mark. There is also a support group that meets every Monday night, alternating between pre-op and post-op issues. Everyone is invited to the support group regardless of where you have your surgery. During my three pre-op visits with Dr. Marshall, he explained the procedure and the risks, of having the surgery and not having the surgery. He also removed my gall bladder and did a hernia repair at the time of the by-pass, both of which he advised be ahead of time might happen. He is pleasant and has a dry kind of sense of humor. I would definitely say that his competence outweighs his bedside manner, and that is what counts most. I highly recommend him as a surgeon. These were my experiences, and I am making no statements about what other people may experience.

I've only had one appointment with Dr. Marshall. He is quite business but very pleasant and gives me a real since of confidence in his abilities. He is very direct about what the surgery is about -- a tool to aid in weight, not a miracle cure. Also, no guarantees. But they do expect most folks to have some level of success. He answered any questions I had. I didn't feel rushed at all.

His office staff that I had any dealing with were wonderful. No attitude of looking down on fat people. This was a pleasant surprise to me as my history with doctors has not been the greatest. They and their staff can be quite rude. Not the case here at all.

We have a wonderful support group in Peoria and he and his partner very much support the group.

Dr Marshall provided me with all the information I needed and still answers all my questions. His office staff is great, never are in a hurry with me. I am 2 months post op. He still goes through things step by step with me in the office. For anyone considering gastric bypass, I would suggest him.

Dr Marshall of Peoria ILL was my surgeon and I think he is the greatest. I owe him every thing. He has changed my life. he is a very caring man and will answer any questions you may have. His staff is so friendly and when you call him they make sure to get you a return call the very same day. They are there for you no matter what.
He does have an after care program that I have not had any trouble following. I was on pureed foods and still am till Friday. I go back every month for follow up care for the first three months then i go every two months.
I highly recommend Dr Marshall.
