My first impression of Dr. Jay was that he was a very small & soft spoken man. He is very friendly and answers all of my questions no matter how dumb or redundant they are. LOL. The NeWeigh staff is very knowledgable and friendly. Almost all of them have had WLS and give helpful information when I ask them questions as well. The thing I least like about Dr. Jay is that at the very last minute he suggested that I might want the Gastric Sleeve instead of the RNY. I was kind of confused by that statement because I had been going to him for 6 months and he had never mentioned it before. My insurance doesn't cover the sleeve but it made me question if I should even have the RNY since he had suggested something else because of my pre-existing iron deficiency. The NeWeigh staff really pushes aftercare and for everyone to attend meetings for greater success. I haven't attended my first post-op meeting yet but I will tomorrow. Dr. Jay addressed every risk of each WLS the first day I arrived. We even watched videos and he gave up visuals of each surgery as well. I would rate Dr. Jay as an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Both surgica competence and beside manner are both important. I want my doctor to sincerely care about my well-being and be precise in the procedure as well. Dr. Jay was indeed both!!
Choosing Dr. Jayakumar was by far one of the best decisions that I have ever made, hands down. He was very caring, informative, cautious, and truly helpful when I was trying to decide which surgery was right for me. When the day finally arrived, once I saw him walk in to pre-op, I knew that everything was going to be alright. He stuck with me and checked on me several times before I went home the next day. During the first two months, I had questions that came up. Dr. Jayakumar's office would relay my messages to him, and he would call me back personally to make sure that my concerns were taken care of. EVEN ON THE WEEKEND. I can't tell you how bad I felt having to bother him on a Sunday afternoon, but he reassured me that it wasn't a problem, and that he would rather return a call on a Sunday, than face a complication down the road. I had truly no issues after the surgery, and after 4 months, I am doing absolutely wonderfully. I have my 4 month follow up in about 2 weeks, and I am truly looking forward to seeing him again. Dr. Jayakumar and his NeWeigh staff are extremely friendly, helpful and take care of you from the moment you walk in the door. I never had to deal with my insurance (BCBS of Alabama)--they handled everything. They really emphasize the aftercare and provide weekly meetings for all. Any information you need is only a phone call away. I would highly recommend Dr. J and NeWeigh to everyone!
Love that Dr. Jay!!! From the moment I met him, I knew we would have a good relationship. He was very good at communicating about the procedure and what I should expect. The Neweigh staff were all very nice and tried to make me feel comfortable. So glad that I would have support along the way.
On the day of surgery, I felt totally confident that I was being taken care of by one the best surgeons.
I would gladly recommend Dr. Jay and the Neweigh staff to friends or family.
Mr first impression of Dr. Jay was that he had a geniue concern and care for his patients. He throughly explained the procedure and most of that it was Tool to assist with my weight loss. He is a very calm and well spoken doctor. rnMy impression has remained at a High for him I consider him my doctor of Mircles he helped me to discover a NEW ME. I have been referred to as a 'Woman Carved from Marble\" and that's a true compliment...I have had no plastic surgery as of yet...but I have high hopes for later ... with Dr. JAY's help.rnrnHis staff is GREAT, extremely helpful and always showed a postive attitude to assist and answer any all questions or try and find an answer to any questions I may have had.rnrnHe made sure that I was comfortable while in the Hospital and that I had whatever I needed for any pain after surgery.rnrnHe has an excellent BEDSIDE MANNER.rnSee, I believe that just because a DR has MD behind is name doesn't just always stand for/or mean Medical Docotor but it could be for \"Mad DOG\" docotor ... but not DR JAY... he made things easier by his GREAT Personality.rnrnHe coverED the pro's and all con's of the procedure and I must admit I did need to take sometime to go over all that was present to me. rnHe showed me to have AN excellent knowledge of Surgical Competence and encouraged me to do my on research on the procedure as well as on his background and that was a PLUS>rnrn

He took time out to demistrate what surgery would be like and what he was going to do once he went in to do the bypass. I felt very comfortable with the him especially after he took time to call me on a sunday to make sure that i had every thing i need to make sure that surgery would go as planned that following wednesday. I highly recommend Dr Jay !

Dr. J was a great surgeon that put me at ease the moment we met. I loved his gentleness, his patience, and the information he shared, being honest about what would happen and what he would do in surgery. He stressed aftercare as being very important to my well being. I want surgical competence first and foresmost but I expect bedside manners in the surgeon and in myself. I do not anything megative to say. When I had 2 differnt problems his response time was very fast both times.
