MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR.CHUA WAS THAT HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON.HIS STAFF IS VERY POLITE AND VERY HELPFUL AT TIMES.I HAVE 2 RATE DR CHUA A TEN HE WAS VERY CANDID WITH ME SO I KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT.I THINK SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND BEDSIDE MANNER BOTH ARE WARRANTED WHEN U HAVE SOMEHING SO SERIOUS DONE.

I first met Dr. Chua at a group meeting. He was very soft spoken, quiet and pleasant. He answered any question asked very honestly. After meeting him in person at my actual office visit, he still was very pleasant and wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. He told me that I was a good candidate for this type of surgery. (Laproscopic banding).
His office staff is pleasant, but I think possibly a bit overworked. They seemed a bit slow on following up with things. I realize I'm impatient and want things done so I can have my surgery, but I felt I had to push everything to get it done. This is just my impression and it could be just a fluke that it happened to me.
At the first meeting all the risks were explained and we were told what to expect. They did indicate that there was no aftercare program. Finding a support group will be an important thing for me to do. I do wish they had a more complete after surgery support in place, but I'll find out how they handle that once I get to that point.

I went to the group meeting on 11/14/01. I liked DR Chua very much. He has a nice sense of humor and answered all my questions. I feel he will do a great job. He has done allot of surgeries and is the only DR that does the Lap Band in my area. I have decided to go with the GBP. I need all the help I can get.
I just talked to Tammy from the doctor's office and I have a date for my first apointment Jan 3rd. I am glad that I got approved
01-03-02 I have a date Feb 20th 9:30am. The doctor answered all of my questions and I feel I am in good hands.

Simply put Dr. Chua was truly very nice. My impression of him from the start was of a warm, friendly, knowledgable man. His office staff is very busy, but they are efficient. I like everything about Dr. Chua and his staff, especially Tammy Lynn who does wonders. Future patients should know that he studied under the man that developed these types of surgeries. Dr. Chua explained with detail the risks of surgery.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate Dr. Chua 100 beause he is a competent surgeon with excellent bedside manner.

Dr. Chua was very nice. I feel comfortable with his skills as a surgeon and his knowledge of the procedures. He answered my questions, but offered no information on his own.
When done with the consult I was left "hanging" so to speak. No one showed me out, no one told me what happened next, if they submit for insurance, if I needed to do anything myself.
It took several weeks from the time of my appointment until anything was even sent out to my insurance. I was rather disappointed in that. I kept tabs on my approval myself and when I found out I was approved I called and got my surgery date.
They gave me no instructions other than don't eat or drink after midnight the day before my surgery. They told me nothing of what would be going on before, during, or after my surgery/stay in the hospital. Again... DISAPPOINTED with the office. I'm having major surgery and I would think they would go over what is going to be happening.
I'm 3 weeks til surgery. I'll see if my opinion changes, but right now the experience has not been the best. Thank God for the online support groups I've found or I would know very little about this surgery at all.

10/11/01 - I met Dr. Thomas Chua today for the first time and I just want everyone to know that what you have (or will) read about him on this website is absolutely true. Dr. Chua is kind, caring, wise -- and very experienced. He has been doing WLS for over 30 years and he has a wonderful "track" record. We decided that I would be a good candidate for the Lap RNY/proximal. I am comfortable with Dr. Chua as he spent a lot of time with me and he had infinite patience in answering ALL of my questions. He has recently established a support group (out of Sinai Hosp in Milwaukee) as well as a structured aftercare program. He was extremely thorough about addressing not only the pros but the cons of each surgery. I appreciate his honesty and candor. I think his bedside manner will be very warm and understanding -- and I am confident that his surgical skills will be exceptional. His office manager, Tammy Lynn, was as nice as I had read she would be. All in all, both Dr. Chua and Tammy Lynn took what could have been a very scary experience and made me feel comfortable, secure, and most of all good about myself for having decided to pursue WLS.

I have heard alot of wonderful things about Dr. Chua I have my first consult with Dr. Chua on Oct.4th***I will update my opinions after my appt. My appt. with Dr Chua went very well. I feel very comfortable with him. He explained all the proceedures that he does and asked about my eating habits and determined that open RNY is the best one for me. He answered all my questions and eased my concerns with confidence. He even mentioned helping me with my ulcers(bleeding) he was concerned about my well being and insisted that Iget that matter taken care of for my healths sake. + + + +
that showed me that he is a caring, and respectful doctor.
I am very happy with his bed side manner, very professional, and wise in his work. He has been doing WLS for 25+yrs. His office has an after care program, and he has information on their support group,(very important.)His office staff seems very friendly and willing to help in every way. seems to be a fast acting office too, lets hope so. I am already very impatient...

I knew from reading on this site that he was going to be a man of few words, and he is! He explained the risks and choices in WLS's. But if you don't ask questions, he won't answer, either. If you come with your questions, you'll be ok. If you don't, you may feel like you are at the drive thru window, ordering a surgery date. But he is very knowledgeable and guided me towards the right choice for me. I only saw him that first time and now I have a surgery date...who knows if I'll see him before the big day! Dr. Chua's office staff is wonderful...Tammy scheduled everything for me...I didn't have to do a thing! I do beleive that a support group is being formed by his office.
