He was very thorough in explaining the surgery procedure and was willing to answer all of my questions.
The office staff was very pleasent and helpful. They leave you with the impression that your insurance letter is
being submitted the same day that you see them and that you will know within 1 month the date of your surgery, but this did not happen.
They emphasize the aftercare and how important it is for the rest of your life. They do have a structured after care program, but I have not seen it yet.
He was very up front about the rist of the surgery. Since I have not had the surgery yet i am not able to comment on competence, bedside manner.

He is very knowledgable about the whole
process.
Great sense of humor!!!!!!
He is a fast talker, but if you pay attention
to him you will understand him!!and he will slow down his talking at certain times.
He said that I make a very good candidate
for the surgery. He was up front about the risk and the aftercare.

Had my first conultation this week (had only called for appointment 3 days before). Office staff very nice, didn't have to wait long to see him. I had no trouble understanding him. He was very informative, took his time, answered all my questions. Gave a clear, understandable explanation of what to expect during stay in hospital and during aftercare. Explained all risks and what they do to minimize them. Explained his background - was excellant. I was very happy with him in general - started the process to have surgury.

Had my consult with Dr. Stelmack on 6/7/02. He seemed like a very nice man. I was impressed that he seemed to be competent, observant (a very important thing), willing to listen (a very good thing) and honest. Very straightforward about risks.

5/3/02 First consult
He is a little hard to understand a speech impediment or something but WOW how informative. He has been doing this surg since 1984 and was so patient and answered every question I had and I had many. When I asked him if I was his mother would he recommend the surgery he said "HAVEIT, oh yes do it." I at first felt like I was at the used car lot of bariatric surgery places but after meeting him and him telling me about the surgery center and how specialized they are I was well at ease and am happy he will be my surgeon. If I didn't understand what he said I simply asked him again. He made me feel important and like I was making the right choice for myself and he would be there to support me with it.
