Band Removal and Gastric Sleeve Surgery with Dr Wilhelmy!
I traveled to Mexico to have my surgery with Dr Wlhelmy. I heard about him from 3 co workers that had surgery with Dr Aceves before me, they spoke so highly of the hospital and the doctors there that I looked into it. I found numerous other places in Mexico for less money and I thought about it for about... 2 seconds. I wanted a safe , reliable and high quality hospital with proven results. I was not about to risk anything regarding my wellbeing. My friend's experience gave me the push to move forward and trust this team with my conversion from lapband to the sleeve. If I had any fears or doubts they all disappeared the minute I walked into the beautiful hospital. Clean, good service, professional staff, everything exceeded anything I had expected. I had my band taken out and my sleeve done roughly 4 weeks ago and I have lost 32 lbs! I am extremely pleased with my experience with Dr Wilhelmy and recommend him to all. Mexicali Bariatric Center is simply the best!

WONDERFUL!! WONDERFUL!!! WONDERFUL!!!
I had the privilege of having Dr. Wilhelmy do my sleeve. His reputation in the community precedes him, his personal and professional accomplishments make him one of the most esteemed doctors in Mexicali. I live very close by and knew people that had surgery with him and of course with the lat Dr. Aceves on the same office. I recommend ALL of the team at Mexicali Bariatric Center, Sweet Yolanda! I love her! Dr. Wilhelmy, talked with him everyday , he was genuinely interested in my well being, Dr. Campos, so attentive and available all he time, do you ever go home ? Dr. Lomeli reassuring in his professionalism; Dr Beltran, the other surgeon changing my life, Dr Gutierrez, sweet and keeping me safe while in surgery , Carla and Nina both so helpful and wanting to help and make me comfortable before and after surgery! Everyone thank you!!

Let me start by saying the whole experience was good (except the blood drawing) and the staff was great. Even the driver Ernesto took me on a little side trip to show me a local phenomena. The ladies were wonderful as well.

I had a friend go to TJ and spend less but I have been asking her questions about aftercare and she is not nearly as informed as Dr. W's patients. That is thanks to Dr. C. who spends several minutes explaining everything. It was important to me to not just be a number but to receive the care that will serve me for the rest of my life.

The day I had surgery, Dr. W did two surgeries. In other areas they will 4 surgeries in one day 7 days a week. Personally I think that is too many as I think surgeons need to remain sharp.

The whole staff was warm and caring which I didn't care about when I was checking into surgery but when you are feeling vulnerable it is important.

I looked for the following in reviews and didn't see this info so will include it here in case it is helpful to someone else:
1-How soon did you go back to work?
I came home on Monday Sept 29th and have worked all week, just shorter hours.
2-Did you have a revision from lap band to sleeve?
I got the revision which is slightly more complicated and why I wanted someone with experience.
3-What do you tell family at home?
I still don't have a good answer for that one. Part of the reason to go to Mexico is money and part is because I think the surgeons had more experience.
4. Are you over 55? I am and I was hoping to talk to mature patients.

At any rate I recommend the Center , the staff and Dr. W. If you want to ask me anything you can get my email address from Nina.
Good luck on your decision.

By the way I am on day 8 of liquids which is boring but not as hard as I thought it would be.

I first met Dr Wilhelmy for a few brief minutes before surgery. He did not have a lot to say but those few words were very reassuring. After surgery he stopped by everyday to check on me to see how I was feeling.
The whole team at Mexicali Bariatric center are just amazing! I never really felt nervous about going to Mexico for surgery.
I do not have the words to convey all that I am feeling about the team of people that gave me the tool to help better my life, except thank you!

I will be honest about my first impression of Mexico and the immediate fear of being in a hospital in an area of Mexicali that seemed very depressed economically: I was scared! I thought to myself that if my sister and sister-in-law hadn't done the surgery prior to me, I maybe would have turned back. BUT, once I got inside the hospital and met the staff and saw the pristine environment, my fears were totally gone. The highest standards in hygiene, safety, and expert medical care are so impressive. These people have the process down to a tee from the moment you walk in and are greeted by Dr. Campo to the smooth and seamless procedures. I woke up from surgery thinking I had not gone in yet! No pain, slight gas discomfort on the second day and then a very quick recovery even before leaving the hospital. Dr. Wilhelmy has the experience in gastric sleeve surgery that made me feel confident. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and can highly recommend Dr Wilhelmy to anyone interested in the gastric sleeve procedure. A huge factor in my wanting this surgery was to reduce blood sugar and have a chance to manage my diabetes. In three weeks since surgery, my blood sugar count is normal and I have lost 15 pounds!! I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Wilhelmy as a most competent and warm hearted doctor. My experience was exceptional.

I just got back and all I can say is I LOVE Dr. Wilhelmy and everyone at MBC. I had open and rapid communication with his office before surgery and was treated with compassion and care when there. Doctors speak very good English there were no barriers with the language. The level of care is 2nd to none I have received in the US. I was at the hospital for 3 days recovering and saw the doctors daily even if just to chat with me for a while. This is really the standard of what medical care should be like everywhere, I was not just another number, they cared for my comfort and well being. I recommends this wonderful and professional group to anyone considering surgery out of the country!

Thank you Dr. Wilhelmy for changing my life! As I write this it has been a little over 3 years that I had my surgery done. My life has changed completely that I still do not recognize the person that I am now! I lost 157 lbs and have opened up to so many more things that I had before in my life.

Dr Wilhelmy was amazing! His bed side manners are like no other, he is kind, caring, and genuinely concerned. From the very first moment I had contact with Mexicali Bariatrics , I knew it was the place for me. From Dr Wilhelmy, Dr Campos, Nina, Carla, Yolanda, and to Ernesto the driver, the service and care was excellent!

I'm the other half of pstowe's review. The "center" where Dr. Wilhelmy works is actually in a hospital (Almater Hospital). It is in Mexicali, Mexico. The hospital is about two miles from the border. I understand the knee-jerk reaction is "that's crazy...Mexico?" But the reality is the hospital is great. You'd be hard pressed to find one that is better in the U.S. There was one nurse for about every six patients in the bariatric wing of the hospital. Most of the doctors and nurses were fluent in English. Dr. Wilhelmy and his team were outstanding. The care was excellent as far as I'm concerned and I've already recommended them to my aunt.
