I must say that Lenox Hill hospital recovery department was the worst experience i have ever had.
I would never recommend any one to go there. Although my experience with my Dr.Shah was good.
The recovery was very poor.. There was no Patient care there. The Recovery Department after i had my Sleeve done was horrible, i thought i was in a club. Most of the nurses there were talking so loud that it hurt me hearing them.. not to mention they must really think that we can't hear because i knew all of the information about the patient next to me.. No privacy, no compassion and no manners or consideration for the patients that had just had surgery. I felt sorry for those patients that were extremely weak to even speak up for them."Lenox Hill get it together"

These people are total amateurs. I would of signed out AMA if I had a ride home the next day. They left me in pain for hours. They dropped the UGI machine on my stomach while doing the leak test. The nurses refused to try an IV on me because I was a "hard stick" they had not even tried, I was discriminated against because of my size. It was terrible, the rooms were 90 degrees, I was sweating all night, I asked for ice and people refuse to bring me some (all i wanted to do was cool off). Every time I asked for something it took hours to bring it. I pressed the call button and it took the nurse 30 mins to an hour to answer. It was the worst hospital experience I have ever had and I refuse to go back there if I have a choice. (This is my experience and through freedom of speech I have the right to express it and share with others... I only hope that others have a better experience)

I've always felt very comfortable and safe using LHH. After my surgery I was treated wonderfully and had a recovery nurse who never left my side and who was such a joy to have around.

Would only return if unconscious and had no choice. Too noisy; staff did not consider patients' needs.

I was not especially pleased with this place. I absolutely hated the fact that I couldn't have a private room (more of an insurance/personal issue.) The recovery nurses were atrocious. My mouth was dry like cotton post op, so I asked for a swab just to wet my mouth. She ignored me repeatedly then brought me one and said "I'm giving you this with trust that you're not going to swallow anything." I felt like I would vomit several times, so I asked for an emesis basin. I never actually did vomit, but I did burp several times. This seemed to annoy her and she spouted off to another nurse "She keeps saying she's going to vomit and she never does." I asked for anti-nausea medicine and she replied that they'd already given me Zofran and Reglan. I asked for Phenergan. A few minutes later I overheard her discussing with the other nurses how I was one of those people who thought they "knew everything" when in actuality I "knew nothing." Pardon me?? Furthermore, she was not supervising me enough in taking deep breaths. A lot of the one-to-one nurses were good (I loved Bella and Pritee,) but some of them were not very attentive. I felt like the hospital was a space ship and every nurse was on a different planet. It felt like nobody was on the same page with my plan of care which was extremely frustrating to me. I made the mistake of weighing myself in the hospital to discover I'd gained 18 lbs of fluid post op. One of the nurses had the audacity to say to me, "If I may give you some advice, really exercise." I was absolutely horrified. As if I'd pursue such an extreme surgery if I hadn't already explored contemporary methods of weight loss! I snapped back at her "Do NOT judge me, I already do." She responded, "No, really exercise." I still can't believe it. You'd think a hospital that does a ton of bariatric surgeries would train their staff to be a little more sensitive to this issue. Some of the monitor techs were really unpleasant and would complain if you had to disconnect your wires to go to the bathroom or walk. Maybe this is par for the course for New York City, but I wouldn't look forward to going back here, ever.

On a whole, my stay was satisfactory. I was not impressed, but not dissapointed. Here are a few CONS that I did experience (take them as you wish) 1) Since this is UES Manhattan, there is no designated parking lot & parking on the street is almost impossible, so all my visitors had to pay a minimum of $35/5 hrs to park in a garage. 2) After surgery I was in the recovery area for over 5 HOURS waiting for a bed to become available & then due to shift change I was left an add'l 2 1/2 HOURS in the same recovery room...the entire 7.5 HOURS WITHOUT any visitors..and I asked multiple times to see my parents & husband. 3) During day one I was confirmed that there were no leaks & the cathetar was removed & was told that I would have to urinate by 8pm or they would put the cathetar back in by the next day. I urinated a small amt at 6pm & at 7:30pm, but the nurse on duty did not record either. Beginning at 11pm and every hour after I was woken up & threated by every nurse & resident on duty that if I did not urinate I would have the catetar re-inserted by 6am. It was annoying & intimidating. Finally the day nurse arrived and confirmed that I did urinate when I said I did.

the nurses and other staff are absolutely wonderful. everyone was so friendly and helpful. they really seem to care about your well-being at this hospital, and they were never too busy to handle even the smallest request.

The night staff was slow to respond to requests and a times abrupt.I was not allowed to walk right after surgery as i was told i had to ,i felt this was risky and maybe even negligent considering they want you to avoid blood clots.I have a herniated disc in my back an i asked for a pillow to cushion myself as i was lying on that bad back for 12 hours.I never received it.I asked 3 different nurses! The tvs worked with headphones only and for 13 bux a day those headphones should be readily available.3 hours later i got it.When they took my iv out it Bleed ALOT it was gushing, the nurse told me to hold on to the bandaid and apply pressure and she would come clean it and re-bandage it.She NEVER came back .A surgical assistant happened by to check up on my incision wounds and SHE fixed it.The daytime nurses were very sweet and attentive and more on the ball.I loved the RN on days- Moira was the best. She seemed to really care and was very resourceful.Overall it was a pleasant exeperience - i just wish i had more of a mouth when i needed something,i did not want to make them mad by constantly asking for things- but was mad myself when i didnt get them.
